The seasonal outdoor water restrictions in Hays that began June 1 will end Wednesday, Sept. 30.
Watering during those months is prohibited between noon and 7 p.m.
There are other water restrictions that remain in effect year round, said Holly Dickman, Hays water conservation specialist.
"Washing down of hardscapes such as sidewalks, parking lots and driveways, the known loss of water through plumbing systems breaks or leaks, and water runoff from private property onto public property such as sidewalks or into the street are all prohibited year round," Dickman said.
If the weather remains warm and windy, which can occur in October, Dickman encourages residents and businesses to water their landscape plants and turfgrass, if necessary.
"Water early in the morning or at night to make most efficient use of the resource. Fortunately though, with cooler night temperatures and shorter days, the need for supplemental irrigation is greatly reduced," she said.
Dickman added that soil moisture should always be checked first before turning on the irrigation system or garden hose.
