Welcome rain falls in Hays early Friday morning

A forecast for a slight chance of scattered showers turned into more than 3/4 of an inch of rain in Hays early Friday morning.

According to the K-State Agricultural Center, 0.77 of rain was measured south of town. The Eagle Media Center, 2300 Hall, had 0.83 of an inch of rain.

The 159-year cumulative moisture average for Hays during the month of August is 3.01 inches. As of August 27, 2.44 inches of rain has fallen in the city.

Thursday's U.S. Drought Monitor shows about 70% of Kansas in some state of drought. 

Nearly all of Ellis County is rated as abnormally dry, with the southern part of the county in moderate drought. 

The three-day weather forecast calls for temperatures at 100 degrees and higher with a slight chance of showers Sunday night.
