HAYS – Garrett Gruell homered, Luuk ter Beek had a quality start and the Hays Larks ran their win-streak to 13 games with a 7-3 non-league win over the Denver Cougars Sunday evening at Larks Park.
Gruell hit a three-run homer to highlight the Larks (26-4) four-run first inning.
After the Cougars (15-17) scored twice in the top of the fourth, the Larks answered with three in the bottom of the inning. Bryson Evans drove in the first run with a single. Tyler Schott scored on a wild pitch then Cash Benavidez knocked in a run on a ground out.
Luuk ter Beek (3-0) allowed two unearned runs on four hits with three strikeouts and a walk over six innings. Caden Hare struck out five over two innings of relief. Mike Cruz worked a perfect ninth with a strikeout.
STREAK CONTINUES
The Larks have won 13-straight games which matches a 13-game win streak in 2003. The longest recorded win-streak is 14-straight in 2021.
The Larks have also won 21-straight home games dating back to last summer which is the longest home win streak on record.
