DODGE CITY – The Hays High baseball team raced out to an early lead and beat Dodge City 10-0 Saturday. The Indians are now 3-1 overall and 2-0 in Western Athletic Conference play.
The Indians wasted no time getting on the board. Cooper Johnson singled with one out and scored on a Carter Graham sacrifice fly in the top of the first. They would add three more runs in the second. Ian McGuire walked, stole second, moved to third on a wild pitch then stole home to push the lead to 2-0. Graham tripled which scored Jonathan Cano. Brett Rhoades added a double which scored Graham. Trace Jacobs followed with a single which scored Rhoades which pushed the lead to 5-0.
Johnson added an RBI single in the fourth and Jalen Smith an RBI double in the fifth to push the lead to 7-0.
HHS added three insurance runs in the top of the seventh. Landon Hardman drove in the first run on a fielder’s choice. The last two runs scored on bases loaded walks to Graham and Rhoades.
