The Ellis County Commission had its annual reorganization meeting Tuesday afternoon at the Ellis County Administration Building at 718 Main St. in Hays after the inclement weather forced the regularly scheduled meeting to be delayed.
The commission approved Nathan Leiker to serve as the new commission chairman and Michael Berges was picked as the vice chairman for 2024.
The reorganization also included the designation of commissioner-filled appointments, official depositories, county newspaper, regular meeting days and times and Ellis County Kansas Public Building Commission directors.
The commission also confirmed the appointment of department heads, appointed non-commissioner county representatives, Ellis County Fair Board members, Fire District No. 1 Company officers and Local Emergency Planning Committee, Ellis County Council on Aging Board and CARE Council members.
The commission also received an update on items county department heads elected to place on Purple Wave for auction.
The list of items was first in front of the commission at its first meeting in January, but Commissioners Nathan Leiker and Neal Younger requested more information on the items department heads had selected to be auctioned.
