馃弨 Hays sweeps Great Bend on the road

Hays continued a stretch of three consecutive conference games to open 2021 with a trip to Great Bend on Tuesday.

Girls

Hays 48 - Great Bend 34

Hays jumped out to a 10-0 lead over the first three minutes of the game and led wire to wire for their second win of the season. Re Green hit a three pointer to spark the game's first run that eventually forced a Great Bend time out.

The Indians never led by less that three points the entire game at 3-0, 10-7 and 14-11. The Panthers cut the lead down to 14-11 to open the second quarter but Hays held them scoreless for the next four minutes. The Indians established their double digit lead once again on a 12-3 run and never led by less than ten rest of the way.

Highlights

Hays opened the second half on a 6-0 run to push the lead to 16. Rest of the quarter saw Great Bend whittle the lead back down to ten at the end of the third quarter 38-28.

Great Bend though never got their offense going in the fourth as the Indians held the Panthers to just six fourth quarter points. The Indians scored in double figures in all four quarter for a 48-34 victory.

Aleyia Ruder led the Indians with 13. Carly Lang scored a season high 12 while Re Green grabbed a career high and game high 11 rebounds

Hays improves to 2-5 on the year and are now 1-2 in the Western Athletic Conference. Great Bend falls to 3-4 and 0-2.

Boys

#3 Hays 51 - Great Bend 24

Hays jumped out to an 8-0 lead before Great Bend scored their first points with 2:10 left in the first quarter. The Indians responded to that three with one of their own and launched into an 18-0 run that went deep into the second quarter for a 26-3 advantage.

Great Bend went 8:50 between their first and second field goal. The Panthers made three of their final four shots and trimmed the Hays advantage to 28-10 at half time.

Highlights

The Indians were never threatened in the second half leading by 27 at the end of three quarters. Hays kept the clock running for the final four minutes of the game when they pushed the lead to thirty and cruised to a 51-24 win.

Jace Linenberger led the Indians with 14 points and TJ Nunnery scored 1o. The Indians improved to 7-0 on the year and 3-0 in WAC play. Great Bend falls to 3-4 and 0-2. 

The Indians return home on Friday to play Garden City.
