HAYS – The Great Bend Panthers boys and girls earned a doubleheader sweep of the TMP-Marian Monarchs basketball teams Tuesday at Al Billinger Fieldhouse.
GIRLS: Great Bend 50, TMP 26
The Great Bend Panthers opened the game on a 22-4 run over
the first two quarters and never trailed on their way to a 50-26 win over TMP.
The Panthers scored the games first eight points before TMP’s Claire Schippers scored her only field goal of the game making is 8-2 Great Bend with more than four minutes to play in the first quarter.
Gracyn Schippers added a first quarter field goal to pull TMP within six at 10-4 but Great Bend answered with a 12-0 run as they built a 22-4 second quarter lead.
Brooke Koenigsman and Brynn Rebel combined to score five points in the second quarter as Great Bend led 28-9 at halftime as the Panthers went on to the 50-26 victory.
Koenigsman finished with nine points for TMP and Gracyn Schippers added seven points and six rebounds.
BOYS: Great Bend 66, TMP 24
The Great Bend boys led wire-to-wire Tuesday, opening the
game on a 21-2 run, on their way to a 66-24 win.
The Panthers scored the games first 15 points before TMP’s Heuer Brungardt scored TMP’s first points with less than five minutes to play in the first quarter. TMP added free throws from Griffin Schumacher and Ty Schmeidler to end the quarter down 21-7.
Brungardt scored TMP’s second field goal in the second quarter, after Great Bend put together a 10-0 run making it 31-9 Panthers.
Great Bend extended their lead to 41-15 at halftime on their way to the 66-24 win.
Joey Mindrup and Ian Nehls both scored five points for TMP.
The Monarchs return to action Friday at Abilene.
