The TMP-Marian baseball team record a pair of one-run wins over Holcomb Thursday in Hays.
Game 1: TMP 7, Holcomb 6
The Monarchs scored runs in five of the seven innings, including
a run on an error in the bottom of the seventh lifting TMP to a 7-6 win in the first game of the doubleheader.
The Monarchs opened the game with a three-run first.
After a Mark Rack single an error by the Holcomb shortstop allowed Rack to score, putting TMP up 1-0. The Monarchs added runs on a fielder’s choice and a Nick Helget RBI single to take a 3-0 lead.
Holcomb got a run back in the second inning for a 3-1 TMP lead.
TMP then added single runs in the third, four and fifth innings.
They scored runs on a dropped third strike, an error and a Joey Mindrup RBI single to put TMP up 6-3.
Holcomb scored three runs in the top of the seventh tying the game at six.
In the bottom of the seventh, TMP’s Nick Helget reached on an error to leadoff the inning before Garrett Feauto singled to right and an error on the right fielder allowed Helget to scored giving TMP a 7-6 win.
Caden Morgan and Nick Helget each drove in a run. Helget and Mark Rack collected a pair of hits.
Nick Herrman earned the win in relief. He allowed three runs on four hits in three and two-thirds innings.
Game 2: TMP 6, Holcomb 5
The Monarchs scored three runs in the fifth inning as they
rallied for a 6-5 win over Holcomb in game two.
Caden Morgan got the scoring started with an RBI single in the bottom of first.
Holcomb scored five runs in the second building a 5-1 lead. The Longhorns took advantage of four walks, two sacrifice flies and an error in the inning.
TMP was able to cut the lead to 5-3 scoring single runs in the third and fourth innings.
They scored on a groundout in the third inning and an error in the fourth.
The Monarchs retook the lead for good in the bottom of the fifth scoring three times to take a 6-5 lead.
Two of the Monarchs runs came on a two-run Longhorn error after a Nick Herrman single tying the game at five and the Herrman scored on a wild pitch putting TMP up 6-5.
Nick Helget got the win with five innings of relief. He allowed just one run on three hits with two walks and two strikeouts in five innings.
Caden Morgan collected two hits and bride in a run for TMP.
The Monarchs improved to 6-4 with the sweep.
