Jane Porter, age 74, of Ulysses, Kansas, died Friday, November 27, 2020,
at Bob Wilson Memorial Hospital in Ulysses, Kansas, after a courageous
battle with cancer. She was born November 26, 1946, in Russell, Kansas,
the daughter of Joe and Barbara (Shoaff) Majernik.
Jane grew up in Russell and graduated from Russell High School. She
continued her education at Fort Hays State University. Jane married
Steven Porter on September 4, 1970, in Russell. She was a
Para-professional at Sullivan Elementary School for many years. She
treasured family gathering for the holidays, reading to her kids, and
loved to watch her grandkids and share in their accomplishments. Jane
enjoyed watching KU Basketball, reading, decorating, and traveling.
Jane is survived by her husband, Steven of the home; daughters, Julie
Hickman of Ulysses, and Stephanie Shivers and husband Tyler of Winfield;
mother, Barbara Majernik of Ulysses; brother, John Majernik and wife
Kathi of Colorado Springs, Colorado; brother-in-law, Gary Porter and
wife Jane of Hugoton; sister-in-law, Janice Porter of Hugoton; and three
grandchildren whom she adored, Joshua Hickman, Jackson and Jaylin
Shivers.
Jane is preceded in death by her dad, Joe; and son-in-law, Jason Hickman.
Memorial service will be Friday, December 4, 2020, at 2:00 PM at Shelton
Memorial Christian Church in Ulysses, Kansas, with Reverend Kelly
Gindlesberger officiating. Masks are required. The service may also be
viewed on Garnand Funeral Home Facebook Live. Inurnment will follow at
Ulysses Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to Shelton
Memorial Christian Church or M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in care of
