The Kansas Department of Health and Environment on Friday reported 97 new COVID-19 cases in Ellis County had been identified since Wednesday.

It was the largest spike in new cases between reporting periods in Ellis County since mid-December 2020. KDHE updates cases each Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

As of Friday morning, there were 26 COVID-19 inpatients at HaysMed.

The KDHE reported on Wednesday that 50 percent of eligible Ellis County residents (age 5 and older) are fully vaccinated, noting the vaccination rate for the eligible Kansas population (5 and older) is approximately 61 percent.
Since reporting began, there have been 5,464 cases of COVID-19 identified in Ellis County, including 78 coronavirus-related deaths.
