September is Suicide Prevention Month, an important time to raise awareness about coping strategies when people may be feeling especially restless or anxious. When you’re stuck in your feelings, there’s one simple, approachable and free thing you can do: go for a walk.

The research-backed mental health benefits of walking show it reduces the risk of depression and anxiety, improves sleep, boosts energy levels, enhances cognitive performance and memory, decreases stress and tension, and releases mood-boosting chemicals.

If you don’t know where to go for your walk, Camber Mental Health, 3000 New Way Blvd., Hays, has a list of options on our blog, with several walking trails in each of the communities we serve. Camber staff also created four different Spotify playlists to support your mental health, with different soundtracks for different moods.
