With COVID-19 keeping friends and family from having birthday and graduation celebrations, a new business in Hays has a way to send a special congratulations.

For a flat fee of $100, Cards on Yards will place a message using 2-foot-tall paper letters and images in your loved-one's yard.

Angela Keller, 36, of Hays recently expanded the service to Hays. Her sister, Amanda Jolley, has operated the business, which is part of a national franchise, in Wichita for three months.

Cards on Yards offers a variety of message displays including birthdays, anniversaries, graduations, retirements, baby showers, weddings, get well, welcome home, engagements, school events and real estate open houses.

The messages can be personalized with people's names and can include displays with cardboard balloons, presents, baby bottles or emojis. The business also offers a honk sign, so people can acknowledge they've seen the sign.

Keller put up her first sign in Ellis this week.

Usually the cards are in a yard for one day. Keller takes care of all set up and tear down.

The Hays Cards on Yards has the materials to do about four to five yards in one day.

Keller is still working out the feasibility of offering the service in smaller surrounding communities, but said right now she is willing to go about 20 to 30 miles outside of Hays.
