
Thomas “Tom” Patrick Brown, was born March 10, 1945 in Colby, KS. He was
the 11th child of Wenzle and Dora Brown. The Lord called him home March
14, 2022 at the age of 77 years and 4 days.
The family lived 18 miles southeast of Atwood, KS. He attended the
Valley View Country School until he was in the 7th grade, when the
school was closed. He then attended 1 year at the Catholic school in
Atwood, KS and 1 year at the Catholic school in Victoria, KS. In 1960 he
returned home to help his dad and brother, Harvey, on the family farm.
On May 25th, 1968, Tom and Margaret Janousek were united in marriage, in
Trenton, NE. They made their home at Albert Yost’s farm for 12 years.
They had 3 children; MeLinda, Tom Jr. and Monica.
In 1980, he moved his family northwest of Rexford, KS to work for John
Ostmeyer, then later worked for Ken Poland north of Gem, KS. Tom moved
his family, in 1990, 18 miles southeast of Atwood, KS, after he was able
to purchase the family farm. Tom enjoyed raising stock cows, pigs,
sheep and milking cows. He loved all aspects of farming, using his John
Deere equipment when putting up wheat. He got the most enjoyment from
cutting, raking and baling alfalfa, which he had been perfecting since
he was a young boy.
Tom enjoyed spending time with his family, friends and neighbors.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Emmeran Brown, Anton
(Mary) Brown, Joe (Wilma) (Bernadine) Brown, Harvey Brown, Robert Brown
and Wenzel Brown Jr.; sisters, Lillian (Carl) Wahrman, Alvina (Richard)
Gamblin and Dorothy (Richard) Taylor, brother-in-law, Bernard Sis and
granddaughter, Shanelle Padilla.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret, of the home; children, MeLinda
(Marty) Barth, of Hays, KS, Tom Jr. (Geri), of Colby, KS and Monica
(Bill) Beckman, of Grinnell, KS; grandchildren; Monteene (Austin)
Carter, Marcy (Daniel) Munday, Tray Brown (Chloe), Chase Brown, Patrick
Johnson, Marissa Johnson, Waylon Beckman and Gabe Albers;
great-grandchildren; Teej and Truett Carter; sister, Delpha Sis, of
Atwood, KS; sister-in-law, Jean Brown, Atwood, KS and numerous nieces
and nephews.
Visitation will be from 5-7:00 p.m., Thursday, March 17, 2022, at Sacred
Heart Catholic Church, Atwood, with a Vigil at 7 p.m. Funeral Mass will
be at 2 p.m., Friday, March 18, at the church, with burial following at
St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Rawlins County, KS. Memorials are suggested to
