
EDMOND, Okla. - Fort Hays State made a season-high 17 three-pointers and beat Central Oklahoma 89-79 in a makeup game Wednesday afternoon at Hamilton Field House. It's the Tigers (8-8, 8-8 MIAA) fourth-straight win and second in in five days over the Bronchos (8-7, 8-7 MIAA).
The Tigers hit their first nine 3-point attempts and built an 18-point lead but the Bronchos closed the half on a 13-3 run to pull within 43-35 at halftime.
UCO outscored the Tigers 8-2 to open the second half to pull within two at 45-43. They would get within two points three more times but could never tie or take the lead.
Up six with three minutes to play, the Tigers hit three straight threes to take control down the stretch. Nyjee Wright hit the first to push the lead to nine. Kaleb Hammeke then hit from the right corner and left corner to push the lead to 10.
Hammeke went 6-of-7 from beyond the arc and led the Tigers with 20 points. Quinten Rock went 4-for-6 from three and added 19 points along with seven assists without a turnover. Jared Vitztum scored 17. His only three of the game in the first half gave him 1,000 points in his career.
Wright scored a season-high 11, playing a season-high 15 minutes.
Isaiah Wade led UCO with 26 points.
The Tigers shot 55-percent for the game including 17-of-26 from beyond the arc and 14-of-16 from the free throw line.
FHSU is back in action Thursday night in Claremore against Rogers State.
