Kurt Alan Pechanec

Kurt Alan Pechanec, 63, McCracken, Kansas, passed away Thursday, June 23, 2022, at the Rush County Memorial Hospital, La Crosse, Kansas.

Kurt was born February 10, 1959, in La Crosse, Kansas, the son of Frank B. and Mary Ann (Scheideman) Pechanec.  He was a lifelong resident of Rush County, Kansas.  A 1977 graduate of La Crosse High School, La Crosse, Kansas, Kurt also received an Associate’s Degree in Animal Science from Barton County Community College, Great Bend, Kansas.  He was a heavy load truck driver for Skillet & Sons, La Crosse, Kansas, for 27 years.

On August 19, 2000, he married Laura Crawford in an outdoor wedding at La Crosse, Kansas.

Kurt was a very dedicated worker. He took pride in his work at Skillet & Sons, along the way logging in more than a million miles and was working on his second million. While at home he enjoyed working in his yard, spending time with his family while working with the cattle. He was an excellent horseman, team roper and cutter. Kurt grew up in 4-H and enjoyed helping his kids and others during the fair. He was always willing to lend a hand.  

Survivors include:  his wife, Laura Pechanec, McCracken, Kansas; one daughter, Kassandra Pechanec, McCracken, Kansas; one son, Garrett McCormick (Maddy Key), McCracken, Kansas; one granddaughter, Harper Jean McCormick, McCracken, Kansas; his mother, Mary Ann Pechanec, La Crosse, Kansas; and one sister, Pam Rose (Sam), Gainesville, Texas

He was preceded in death by his father.

Per Kurt’s wishes, the family has chosen cremation.

A private family inurnment will take place in the La Crosse City Cemetery, La Crosse, Kansas.

The family will be celebrating Kurt’s life at a gathering to be held at the Rush Center Township Hall, Rush Center, Kansas, on Sunday, August 14, 2022, at 2:00 P.M.

In lieu of flowers or plants, the family requests memorials to an education fund for his daughter, Kassandra, or the Rush County EMT’s.
