⚾Larks complete weekend sweep of Denver Cougars

HAYS – The Hays Larks scored in all but two innings Sunday as they completed a three-game sweep of the Denver Cougars with a 6-2 win Larks Park.

Hays collected 15 hits and four of those were extra base, as they outhit the Cougars 15-5.

Trent Baker got the scoring started for the Larks with an RBI single with the bases loaded for a 1-0 Hays lead.

Gage Gilchrist’s solo homerun in the bottom of the second inning made it 2-0 Hays.

After two scoreless innings, Gilchrist doubled scoring Baker and putting Hays up 3-0.

Denver cut the Hays lead to 3-2 with a two-run homerun in the top of the sixth but the Larks got a run back on a wild pitch.

In the seventh Kaiden Ashton walked with he bases loaded putting Hays up 5-2 and then in the eighth Baker drove in his second run of the game, on a ground out, making it 6-2 Larks.

Baker and Gilchrist each drove in a pair of runs and Baker and Carpenter both collected three hits each for the Larks.

Mack Ortner earned the win in relief for the Larks. He walked one and struck out three in 2 2/3 innings of scoreless relief.

Hays is now 27-8 and 21-6 in the RMBL.
