⚾ Larks blow lead in walkoff loss to Sox

DENVER – The Colorado Sox rallied for five runs in the eighth inning to tie then scored another in the ninth for a 9-8 walk-off win over the Hays Larks Saturday at De’Evelyn High School.  The Larks outhit the Sox 19-12 but stranded 12 baserunners in their first loss of the season.

Hays (4-1, 1-1 RMBL) scored six in the fourth and had an 8-3 lead after six innings before the Sox started their comeback

The Sox (1-2, 1-2 RMBL) used a leadoff walk followed by a single to start the ninth. A sac bunt advanced the runners to second and third. Following a groundout, Maxim Fullerton singles to right scoring Nolan Ackerman with the winning run.

Trey Riggs (0-1) allowed one run on three hits with a strikeout and walk over the final 1 1/3 innings and suffered the loss. Starter Luuk ter Beek gave up three runs (two earned) on seven this with five strikeouts and no walks over 5 2/3 innings. Max Casellucci surrendered five runs on wo this with four walks and a strikeout over 1 2/3 innings.

Grant Schmidt hit a solo homer and Core Jackson added a two-run shot in the Larks six-run fourth. Wyatt Divis added a two-run homer in the sixth to give the Larks a five-run lead.

Divis went 4-for-4 with three RBIs. Palmer Hutchison added three hits while Grant Lung, Cam Pehrson, Grant Schmidt and Sam Crowell add had two.

The two teams play again Sunday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. CDT.
