Kansas man hospitalized after semi rear-ended a semi

SCOTT COUNTY—One person was injured in an accident just before 12:30a.m. Saturday in Scott County.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 2006 Kenworth semi driven by Christian Niemann, 33, Scott City, was southbound on U.S. 83 at County Road 270.

The semi rear-ended a 2018 Peterbilt semi driven by Carl P.  Schutte, 22, Scott City.  Both driver had done an avoidance maneuver to not collide with a vehicle in their lane of travel and left the roadway to the right onto the emergency shoulder before the crash. 

EMS transported Niemann to the Scott County Hospital.  Schutte was not injured. Both drivers were properly restrained, according to the KHP.
