HAYS, Kan. – Fort Hays State ran its win streak to five games and completed a sweep of both home doubleheaders this weekend on Saturday. The Tigers swept Lincoln with a pair of 8-0 wins in six innings, putting the run rule in effect both games, and moved to 22-23-1 overall on the season and 8-10 in the MIAA. Lincoln moved to 12-31 overall and 0-22 in the MIAA.

More importantly for the Tigers, a sweep of all four games over the weekend at home put them back in the chase for the MIAA Tournament. FHSU is now up to ninth, just a game back of the eighth position in the standings. The top eight teams in the conference qualify for the conference tournament. FHSU has four conference doubleheaders remaining, two of which are next weekend at home against Newman and Central Oklahoma.

Game 1: Fort Hays State 8, Lincoln 0 (Run rule – 6 inn.)
Fort Hays State scored in all but one inning of its victory in game one. The Tigers put up two runs in both the first and second inning, added a single run in the third, scored two in the fifth, and then put the run rule in effect with a run in the bottom of the sixth.

The Tigers had six players all record RBIs in the game. In the first, Loren Beggs had an RBI double. In the second, Sara Breckbill had an RBI double and Reese Curry added an RBI single. Adysen Burghart joined the mix in the third with an RBI single. Emily Jordan made the most of her pinch hit opportunity driving in a run with a base hit in the fifth and Sarah Tiffany ended the game in the sixth with an RBI double. FHSU's other two runs came on a throwing error in the first and a wild pitch in the fifth.

Savanah Egger cruised to a complete-game shutout, her second of the season. She scattered four hits and struck out three, picking up her eighth win of the season. Aidan Dayberry lasted just 1.2 innings in her start for Lincoln, allowing four runs (three earned) on six hits and a walk. Hannah Clark, who threw 3.2 innings in relief, allowed four runs on seven hits with two walks.

Game 2: Fort Hays State 8, Lincoln 0 (Run rule – 6 inn.)
Like game one, the Tigers took a lead in the first inning and continued to add on as they defeated Lincoln again by the same score in the same amount of innings. FHSU scored one in the first, three in the third, three in the fourth, and the final run in the sixth.

Sarah Tiffany got the scoring started in the first with an RBI single. Madison Pierce hit the lone homer of the afternoon in the third, a two-run shot to center field to make it 3-0 in favor of FHSU. It was her seventh blast of the season. Sara Breckbill added an RBI double later in the inning. In the fourth, Loren Beggs poked a two-RBI double and then Regan Curry singled in a run. Curry would finish the day off for the Tigers in the sixth with an RBI double to make it 8-0.

Morgan Schmidt put up her second double-digit strikeout effort of the week by fanning 10 batters in her first complete-game shutout of the season. She allowed three hits and a walk and moved to 8-3 on the season. Jordan Galliher pitched 3.0 innings in her start and allowed four runs on five hits and four walks with a strikeout. Ashton Stalling pitched 2.0 innings and allowed four runs on seven hits and three walks.

The two doubleheaders next weekend against Newman and Central Oklahoma will be the final home games for FHSU this season. They play their final two doubleheaders on the road.
