Man arrested following incident in rural Hays

A 36 year-old man was arrested following the report of a domestic disturbance Saturday in rural Hays.

According to the Ellis County Sheriff’s Department, law enforcement was called to the 400 block of Canterbury just before noon Saturday, July 23 after a domestic disturbance was reported at that location.

Deputies were told by family members that a male, at the residence was inside the home and had fired a gun.

The family was able to exit the home without injury.

The sheriff’s department, with help from the Hays Police Department and the Kansas Bureau of Investigation attempted to contact the man with the use of a loudspeaker. A tactical vehicle was also on scene during the incident, according to the sheriff's department.

After approximately three and a half hours deputies located and arrested the man in at ally behind the home.

According to the sheriff’s department, the man suffered a self-inflicted wound to his left arm and was taken to the hospital for treatment.

Law enforcement has not identified the man that was arrested.
