⚾ Hays High splits regular season finale in Salina

SALINA - Hays High ended their regular season on the road in Salina. The Indians faced a pair of Ark Valley Chisolm Trail teams as they played Buhler in the first game and Salina South in the second at Dean Evans Stadium

Hays 6, Buhler 1
Brendan Stults pitched five innings of scoreless baseball while the offense scored five runs to take an early lead that would hold for a 6-1 victory.

Hays turned a pair of double plays in the first five innings to keep Buhler off the scoreboard. Brett Schumacher provided a two-run double in the second to score Jack Weimer and Carter Graham. 

Hays added three runs in the bottom of the third. Lex Lummus led off the inning with a double and later scored on a single by Graham. Corbin Werth ran after Dylan Haselhorst singled and scored on a sacrifice fly by Tiger Johnson. The final run of the inning was on a single by Ian McGuire which scored Graham. 

Hays answered Buhler's solo run with one of their own in the sixth. Charlie Roe drove in Johnson for the final of 6-1.

Stults needed just 64 pitches to navigate five innings. He allowed no runs on two hits and struck out seven. Tanner Boxberger closed out the game's final two innings. Buhler fell to 13-13 for the season.

Salina South 8, Hays High 6
Salina South scored the first seven runs of the game and then held on for an 8-6 victory of Hays High.

The Cougars scored three runs in the first, one in the second and three more in the third for their big lead at 7-0.

Hays fought back with four in the fourth. The runs were scored when the bases were loaded and two Indians were hit by a pitch and two more were walked.

Trailing 7-4, Hays got two runners on and nobody out in each the fifth and sixth inning but managed just one run to draw within two at 7-5. South answered the single tally with one of their own in the bottom of the sixth.

Hays scratched a run across in the top of the seventh for the final of 8-6.

Nolan Dreher, Tiger Johnson and Johnny Cano each pitched two innings for the Indians. Dreher was tagged with the loss.

Hays ends the regular season at 16-9. They await to see who they play and on what day next week for regional play. South improves to 13-13. They beat Buhler 9-6 in the first game of the day.
