It was hot in Hays Sunday, and Monday should be even hotter.
Yesterday's temperature reached 108 degrees, just one degree shy of the record 109 degrees for July 26 set back in 1931, according to official records from the K-State Agricultural Research Center.
A scorching heat wave continues across the central and southern United States today, including Kanas.
Hays is under an extreme heat warning until 9 p.m. according to the National Weather Service in Dodge City.
The weather forecast for Hays calls for a high of 109 degrees with the heat index making it feel like 112 degrees.
There is a 40% chance of thunderstorms overnight and slightly smaller chances of rain Tuesday through Thursday nights.
