Nita Johnston, 79, of Stockton, KS, passed away on April 25, 2025, at Select Specialty Hospital in Wichita, KS, surrounded by her husband, children, and grandchildren.

Nita was born on August 6, 1945, to Kimber and Eldred (McDonald) Chard in Osborne County, Kansas. On November 19, 1961, she married Merrill Johnston in Stockton, where they made their home and raised their family.

Nita devoted her life to the love and care of her family, creating a home that was always warm, welcoming, and filled with laughter. She found great joy in raising her children, watching her family grow, and always making room for one more at the table. Family vacations and camping trips were highlights of her life, where stories were shared around the fire, and memories were made under the stars. The love and bonds she nurtured will live on through the many cherished memories she helped create.

Remaining to cherish Nita’s memory are her husband of 63 years, Merrill; her children: Kim Slater and husband Matt of Great Bend, KS, Dawna Scott of Stockton, KS, Stacey Eddleman and husband Tony of Hastings, NE, Brian Johnston and wife Nealee of Hesston, KS; 14 grandchildren: Brook Dix, Cody Dix, Haley Dix (Robert Tinker), Chloe Scott, Kristen Campbell (Tyler), Kera Brown (Ty), Kaleb Gage, Mattie Eddleman, Lyndie Eddleman, Brynn Johnston, Carson Johnston, Tonia Chaney (Dave), Chris Eddleman (Carla), and Bree Spillman (Ethan); and seven great grandchildren: Jackson, Emmalynn, Olivia, and Amelia Brown; Calvin and Aria Campbell; and Brenton Eddleman.

Nita was preceded in death by her parents, and her siblings: Joyce Kressly, Vernon Chard, Keith Chard, and Rita Monson.

A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, May 3, 2025, at 10:30AM at the Stockton Church of Restoration in Stockton. There will be no public visitation.
