🤼‍♀️ Ellis' Haag advances to title match at 4-1A State

SALINA – Kaydawn Haag of Ellis will wrestle for a state championship at 140 Thursday at the 4-1A State Tournament at the Tony’s Pizza Event Center. Fellow teammate Callie Priest went 1-1 and is still alive at 110.

Haag, who finished fifth at state a year ago, defeated Cheyenne Wagoner of Douglass by major decision (14-3) in the first round. She then knocked off Taya Rowley of Chapman and Lyndsey Escareno Eureka by fall. She will face Audrey Darnell (45-3) of Baldwin in Thursday’s finals.

Plainville’s Ella Normandin went 1-1 in the same weight class and will wrestle Thursday in the consolation cross-bracket. Teammate Caxton Smyth also went 1-1 on day one, winning by fall in the first round then losing on a 6-4 decision in the second round. Zoe Brown also went 1-1. She lost her first match by fall then won by fall in her first consolation match.

Callie Priest of Ellis also went 1-1 on day one at 110, losing by a fall in round one then winning by fall in her first consolation match. Trego’s Adrian Wynn also went 1-1 at 115.

Quinter’s Cali Wagoner won her first two matches at 135 then lost on a major decision in the quarterfinals. She will wrestle in the consolation semifinals Thursday.

Abigail Heirner of Ellis went 0-2 at 105. The same for TMP-Marian’s went Claudine Stein at 140.
