Ellis Police Department
At 5:51 p.m. Monday, the Ellis Police Department received a request for a welfare check on a community member.
At 7:19 p.m., the community member was located by an Ellis Police Officer, deceased from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound at the Ellis High School football field in the 400 block of West 10th Street in Ellis.
No foul play is suspected at this time, and there is no threat to community safety.
An autopsy will be conducted at a later date by the 23rd Judicial District Coroner’s Office.
The community member’s name will not be released, per the request of the family.
