Robert P. 'Bob' Chesney

Robert P. (Bob) Chesney, age 92, of Hays, Kansas, died August 16, 2021, at Via Christi Village in Hays. He was born February 17, 1929, in Paradise, Kansas to Kent Loyal and Hazel (Day) Chesney. He married Verla L. Meyers on June 4, 1950.  She died August 10, 1961.  He married Judith A. (Weigel) Pfannenstiel on July 3, 1989. 

He was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Hays and a former member of Sacred Heart Church in Plainville, Kansas. He was a graduate of Woodston High School and Kansas State University with a two year curriculum in agriculture.

Bob was a farmer-rancher in the Woodston area of Rooks County for more than fifty years.  He was a forty-five-year member of Hays High Plains Barbershop Chapter and one of their greatest promoters. He loved living in the country and spending time with family and friends.  He especially enjoyed entertaining the grandchildren and used his talents to create toys and playground equipment for them. He will be remembered as a great conversationalist with a quick wit and a friendly smile.

Survivors include his wife, Judith A. Chesney of the home, three sons, Christopher P. Chesney (Cheri) Franklinton, NC; Samuel J. Chesney, Overland Park, KS; Kelly K. Chesney, Wichita, KS; two stepsons, Robert G. Pfannenstiel Jr. (Debra) Eureka, CA; Dustin Pfannenstiel, Hays, KS; stepdaughter Kimberleigh Chilcott (Robert) Larned, KS; six grandchildren, Heidi Chesney, Wayde Denning, Trevor Denning, Katrina Pfannenstiel, Damon Chilcott and Danielle Chilcott; brother in law Daniel Weigel, sister in law Sandra Leiker (Ernest), also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, parents, stepson Jesse Pfannenstiel, stepdaughter Kerri B. Pfannenstiel, grandson Christopher Robert Chesney, sister Evelyn Baumer, two brothers and their wives, Warren and Wanda Chesney, Homer and Eileen Chesney, a step great grandson, one niece and four nephews.

Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Friday, September 3, 2021, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Hays. A rosary service will be at 9:30 AM prior to the funeral service. Memorial visitation will be Friday 9 AM until rosary time at the church. 

Inurnment will be at 2:30 PM at the Woodston Cemetery, Woodston, Kansas.
