Floyd passed away peacefully with his loving family surrounding him on January 10th, 2025, in Colorado Springs. He was 74 years young.

Floyd was born on September 21st, 1950, to loving parents Joseph and Elsie Sander Hoffman. He was raised in Hays, Kansas with his siblings Ron, LeAnne, Bob, and Joe.

Floyd married the love of his life, Mary Jo Degenhardt, on August 25th, 1972, in Oklahoma City.

Together they raised three children, William, Rebecca, and Jeremy.

Floyd first met Mary after her family moved into the neighborhood of 1300 Mac Arthur Rd. They became good friends and dated as teenagers, going to school sports events, writing letters to each other, and trading their favorite records. Floyd would often go to Mary’s house and hang out with friends listening and dancing to music. That friendship and Love turned into a lifetime of Laughter, Memories, and Family Traditions, that we will remember forever. Their marriage of 52 years is a picture of what True Love is meant to be.

Floyd attended Hays High and excelled in Industrial Arts.  He built furniture that is still in use today! After graduation he worked for Allied road crew in the early 1970’s, which took him all over Kansas. This occupation took time away from his newly growing family, so he started a business with his brother Ron. Hoffman’s Custom Woodwork. Floyd and his brother built custom homes In Hays and surrounding areas.

The lagging real estate market in Hays prompted a move to Colorado Springs, Colorado in 1986. Floyd’s family couldn’t be happier with this move and the new opportunities that awaited. Hoffman Construction was formed with his brother Ron. Floyd was fearless and downright scary in this line of work. His son Jeremy, who worked with Floyd and Ron, could barely watch! After several years the company evolved into Hoffman Homes. Floyd and Ron built numerous beautiful custom homes along the front range in Colorado. After Floyd’s brother Ron retired in 2021, Hoffman Homes became a father and son company.  Wow, what a team! Jeremy now follows in Floyd’s footsteps as the owner and proudly runs the family business.

Floyd loved his work, but his Family was everything. He loved barbecues and family dinners. He also enjoyed family adventures with his best friend Ralph Cooey, exploring the Colorado Mountains and the history of Old Mining towns. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandson, Zach. They had a very special bond, and Zach adopted Floyd’s love of music and Sound Engineering. They spent many hours in the garage measuring and constructing wooden boxes for subwoofer speakers.

Floyd was vibrant and brimming with life in all that he would do. He loved all kinds of music and was the life of the party. He always knew how to have fun and was a man that would take the shirt off his back for anyone in need. Floyd was the Rock and Foundation of his family and could fix anything. He was a great teacher with his strong guidance, support, and unconditional love. His family knew they could do anything because he believed in them. Floyd’s enthusiasm for life and his love for his family is a gift that they will cherish forever. Floyd had a quote that hung on the refrigerator that said, “Life’s Journey is not to arrive at the grave safely in a well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, totally worn out, Shouting, Holy Sh*t, What A Ride!”
