
KIOWA COUNTY — Two northwest Kansas women are thankful for an alert Union Pacific railroad crews. The women avoided an accident just before 10:30p.m. Tuesday in Kiowa County.
The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 2017 Ford Focus driven by Mackenzie L. Bliss, 21, Hill City, was northbound on 11th Avenue just south of U.S. 54 highway and 1/4 mile north of U.S. 400 highway
The driver turned west at the stop sign on the tracks thinking it was U.S. 54 Highway. The car stuck on the rocks next to the track facing west. The train crew saw the headlight and applied the brake. Both Bliss and her passenger Marissa C. Alexander, 20, Norton were able to get out of the vehicle safely. There were no injuries.
