James Moser

Norton, KS resident James R. Moser passed away Sunday, November 29th, 2020, at the Norton County Hospital at the age of 79.

James was born December 5, 1940, in Oxford, NE the son of Donald and Esther (Hoyle) Moser.  The family later moved to Russell where he graduated from high school in 1959.  He is still recognized at the Russell High School for being the first state champion in Wrestling.  He then attended Fort Hays College until enlisting in the US Army in 1960.  The majority of his duties in the Army were in Germany.  He was honorably discharged in 1963.

He was united in marriage to Georgia Weinhold on December 28, 1961.  To this union two children were born.  Following his military service the couple moved to Norton where he began his career as a mechanic for the Kansas Department of Transportation.  Following his retirement in 1995, he continued Moser Tree Service full time.  He retired from the tree business in 2007.

James held a pilot’s license and enjoyed the time he got to spend in the air.  He also enjoyed restoring antique cars, working on scooters and motorcycles, and camping with family and friends.  In the last few years he enjoyed his coffee time with his buddies and spending time with his grandchildren, great grandchildren and watching them grow.  He was proud when he was recognized for his military service with an Quilt of Valor that he received.

He was a lifetime member of the Norton American Legion, a certified arborist, and also a member of the Cushman Club of America and Kaiser Frazer Owners Club.

James was preceded in death by his parents Don and Esther and a brother Donald, Jr.

Survivors include his wife Georgia of the Home; his daughter Donna Winchell and husband Rex of Agra, KS; son Adam Moser of Topeka, KS; 4 grandchildren Leah Lowe and husband Donald of Abilene, Casie Bott and husband Clayton of Clay Center, RJ Moser and Alias Moser of Perry; 3 great grandchildren; brother Leslie Moser of Wichita; brother’s-in-law Evert Weinhold of Savage, MI and Peary Weinhold of Kanopolis; sister-in-law Cindy Bear of Wichita; as well as, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Cremation was planned.  A private memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, December 3 in the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, Phillipsburg.  The services will be streamed live on the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel Facebook page.  A private inurnment in the Oxford Cemetery will take place at a later date.

Friends may sign the book Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the City of Norton for Beautification.
