Judith Ann “Judy” Werth, 81, La Crosse, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2024, at Rush County Memorial Hospital Intermediate Swing Bed, La Crosse.
Judy was born Aug. 2, 1942, in Hot Springs, Ark., the daughter of Meinard “Doc” and Mildred (Pate) Meier. She was a resident of Rush County for 54 years, moving from Ellis County. A 1960 graduate of Hanston High School, Hanston, Judy continued her education, graduating from St. Anthony’s Nursing School, Hays, as an RN. She worked at Rush County Memorial Hospital, La Crosse, for 48 years before her retirement.
She was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church, La Crosse, and the Red Hat Society.
Judy loved her grandchildren and the time she spent with them. She enjoyed traveling, reading, conquering puzzle books, gardening,and painting.
On Sept. 14, 1963, she married Harold M. Werth at Hanston. He preceded her in death Jan. 8, 2002.
Survivors include: one son, Harland Werth (Lori), La Crosse; two daughters, Kim Stejskal (Brian), Bison, and Sonya Sackett (Mike), Kechi; six grandchildren, Logan Beard (Amanda), Haslet, Texas, Mariah Werth, La Crosse, Nicole Stejskal, Addison, Texas, Zach Stejskal (Taylor), Timken, Ian Sackett, Wichita, and Jared Sackett, Washington, D.C.; two great-grandchildren, Jo Beard and Georgia Beard; two brothers, Meinard “Bud” Meier, Anson, Texas, and Jim Meier (Gayla), Crowley, Texas; and three sisters, Elaine Keesey (Jack), Molino, Fla., Lanay Meier, Salina, and Bernie Hardesty, Kansas City, Mo.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and two brothers-in-law, Eric Hardesty, and Rick Connell.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 15 at the Janousek Funeral Home, La Crosse, with the family receiving friends from 6 to 7 p.m. A vigil service and Rosary will be at 7 p.m.
Church visitation will be from 9 to 9:50 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 16 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, La Crosse.
The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 16 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, La Crosse, with Father Reginald A. Urban officiating. The interment will be in the La Crosse City Cemetery, La Crosse.
In lieu of flowers or plants, the family requests memorials to Barton Community College Foundation, Great Bend. Memorials will be used to establish a nursing scholarship in Judy’s name, or Rush County Memorial Hospital Intermediate Swing Bed, La Crosse.
