WICHITA, Kan. - The Fort Hays State women's soccer team defeated Newman 2-0 on Friday. After a scoreless first half, the Tigers scored twice in the second half to clinch their third-straight conference win. FHSU advanced to 8-0-3 (3-0-1 MIAA) while NU fell to 0-10-1 (0-4 MIAA).

The Tigers took the lead when a free kick from Reilly Madden fell into the box and deflected to Britney Arneson, who sent it into the net in the 51st minute. Hannah Mares sealed the game for the Tigers as a foul in the box sent her to take a penalty kick in the 68th minute. The junior snuck the ball past the keeper with ease to score her fourth goal of the season and her second via penalty kick.

FHSU finished with 16 shots in the match and put five on target. The Tiger defense held their ground once again and allowed only five shots to the Jets, none of which were on goal. With this win, the Tigers secure their eighth shutout of the season.

The Tigers will be back in action on Sunday (Oct. 2) when they take on 11th-ranked Central Oklahoma with kickoff scheduled for 1 p.m. in Edmond.
