Icyl Irene Wood, 99, died January 13, 2022, at Presbyterian Manor of the Plains, Dodge City. She was born on January 6, 1923, at Ness County, the daughter of Ira E. and Laura V. (Stewart) Baldwin.

Icyl moved with her family to Reno County when she was 10 years old. She graduated from Hutchinson High School and Hutchinson Community College. After receiving her associates degree she taught school from 1943-1948. On September 22, 1946, she married Howard B. Wood in South Hutchinson. He preceded her in death on January 9, 1997.

The family lived in Montezuma and Coldwater for a short time before settling in Dodge City, where she has resided since.  Icyl was a bookkeeper for Southwest Equipment Company and the Silver Spur Lodge. She was an active member of the First Christian Church, where she served in the childrens Sunday School and Junior Church. Icyl was also a member of the Win A Couple and Happy Partners classes, Swing Shift Circle, Women’s Council and Keenagers all ministries of the church.

Survivors include one son, Richard Wood and wife Carol of Vero Beach, Florida; two daughters, Marilyn Custer and husband Jimmy of Nowata, Oklahoma and Marsha Reid and husband Ken of St. Thomas, Ontario, Canada; a son-in-law, Maurice Roberts of Windfield; six grandhildren, one step-granddaughter, and three great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Nancy Roberts; three brothers and three sisters.

The family of Icyl Wood is deeply saddened to announce her passing on January 13, 2022, at the Manor of the Plains Nursing Facility in Dodge City, Kansas.  Having just celebrated her 99th birthday a week prior, she succumbed to an unexpected medical complication and passed peacefully in her sleep. We will all miss her loving presence and the warmth of her smile.  May our wonderful memories of her remain with us forever.

Memorial service will be held at the First Christian Church in the spring of 2022.  Interment has taken place at Maple Grove Cemetery in Dodge City.  There was no public visitation as cremation has taken place.
