KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Fort Hays State running back Shane Watts was named the MIAA Co-Offensive Athlete of the Week on Monday following the 36-7 win over No. 11 ranked Emporia State this past weekend. He shared the weekly award with Zach Zebrowski of Central Missouri.
Watts became the first player in Fort Hays State history to rush for at least 200 yards in consecutive games, producing a career-high 250 rushing yards in the 36-7 win at No. 11 ranked Emporia State. He had 201 the week before against Missouri Southern, which was his previous high. The performance pushed him past 1,000 yards for the season, now with 1,128, making it the 20th time a player has reached 1,000 rushing yards in FHSU history and first time since 2017. It was the fifth-most rushing yards in a game for a player in FHSU history, the most since 2015 when Shaquille Cooper ran for 263 yards. Watts leads the MIAA in rushing through 10 games, averaging 112.8 per game. He has five games with at least 100 yards rushing this season.
Zebrowski led Central Missouri to a convincing 37-13 victory over No. 5/1 Pittsburg State this past weekend in Pittsburg. He had 478 yards of total offense, including four touchdowns. He threw for 382 yards with two passing touchdowns, while also rushing for 96 yards with a pair of touchdowns on the ground.
