Alfred "Fritz" Koerner Jr., age 84, of Hays, died Monday, December 7, 2020, at Via Christi Village, Hays, Kansas. He was born July 17, 1936, in Hays to Alfred Koerner, Sr., and Albina (Weigel) Koerner.  He graduated from St. Joseph Military Academy.  He married Marietta (Younger) on November 18, 1957, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Hays.

Alfred worked for P&B Packers with his father and then worked as a meat market manager for Dillons for many years.  Alfred was an avid sports fan, especially the Kansas City Chiefs, Kansas University and the Kansas City Royals.  He coached little league football and baseball, leading both to state championships.  His love was for his family and treasured the time spent with his grandchildren.  He loved polka dancing, wedding dances and always said, “Back in his day, it was considered a good wedding if a fight broke out.”

He is survived by three daughters, Deborah (Kenneth) Busch, Lisa (Virgil) Leiker, and Amy (Rick) Linenberger, all of Hays; sisters Daisy (Glenn) Ginther and Karen Welch, both of Russell, Kansas; six grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, a sister, Patty Hashenberger; brothers, Ronnie Koerner and Gary Koerner, all of Hays, KS, and brother Steve Koerner Ozawkie, KS; and great grandchild Autumn Brianna Whittaker.
