Ronald Hornung, 83, died November 12, 2021, at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas.

Ronald L. Hornung was the third of seven children born to Michael C. and Rosa (Heiland) Hornung on February 4, 1938. Ron attended the Spearville schools, graduating in 1956. He graduated from Fort Hays State University in 1960 and married Jan Whipple November 25, 1960; she preceded him in death May 26, 1984. He found love again and remarried July 23, 1985, to Janice K. Friess.

 Ron is survived by his loving wife Janice; his four daughters Renelda Hornung, Nadine Baker (Buck), Jill Hornung-Heeke (Rick), and Bonnie Scott. He was blessed with eleven grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, one great grandchild, and six step great grandchildren. He is also survived by two of his siblings, Don Hornung (Christy) and Phyllis Stephenson. Ron was also blessed with numerous nieces and nephews spanning three families.

 After graduation from FHSU he was the fourth employee hired at American Products Inc., (CrustBuster SpeedKing) working closely with family to engineer and develop farm equipment. In 1973 Ron became president of Crust Buster Inc.

 Ron was an active member of his community. He served on the city council and was elected mayor 1971-1973.  In 1976 Ron left Crust Buster and Spearville, moving the family to Eagle, Colorado, where he took up carpentry and construction with John Logren and then moved into real estate with Ray Aman. In 1980 Ron returned to his roots and moved back to Spearville to take up the family farm.  He retired from farming at age 65 and took up gardening! He loved the dirt!

 Ron was preceded in death by his son Bruce, his first wife Jan, his parents and four siblings.

 A rosary will be held Thursday, November 18, 2021 at 7:00 pm at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Spearville. Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 18, 2021 from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Swaim Funeral Chapel in Dodge City.The funeral mass will be held Friday, November 19, 2021 at 10:00 AM at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Spearville with Rev.
