Ruth E. Zimmerman, 91, Hays, died Friday, July 12, 2024 surrounded by family at Via Christi Village.

She was born December 19, 1932 in Schoenchen, the daughter of Joseph and Julia (Gottschalk) Kronewitter.  Ruth graduated from Schoenchen High School, and on August 13, 1951 she was united in marriage to Roman C. “Roy” Zimmerman in Schoenchen.  They celebrated 62 years of marriage before he preceded her in death on December 8, 2013.  She worked at the Ellis County Court House, USave Bakery, Stromgren Supports, and for many years was a bank teller at Hays State Bank, Hays National Bank, and First National Bank.  She possessed a strong faith, attended daily mass, and devoutly prayed the rosary.  Ruth was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church and for over 50 years was a member of the Daughters of Isabella Circle #254.  She enjoyed dancing, music, playing cards, traveling, and she loved and cherished her family and their time together.

Survivors include her son Keith Zimmerman and wife Anne of Hays, three daughters, Sheila Kelsay and husband Larry of Wichita, Karen Kisner and husband Dale of Hays, and Kay Werth and husband Loran of Hays, two sisters, Jane Kisner and Carol Legleiter, both of Hays, 14 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Roy, her daughter, Sandra “Sandy” Sanders, son-in-law, James F. Werth, one brother, Jim Kronewitter, and two sisters, Bernice Werth and Betty Rajewski.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 am on Wednesday, July 17, 2024 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church with Fr. Fred Gatschet officiating.  Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 5:00 pm until 8:00 on Tuesday and from 9:00 am until 9:45 on Wednesday, all at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home.  A Daughters of Isabella rosary will be at 5:30 pm followed by a vigil service at 6:30 pm both on Tuesday at the funeral home.  Memorials are suggested for masses or to St. John’s Chapel at Via Christi.  Condolence and memories of Ruth may be left for her family at www.haysmemorial.com
