Louise Darlene (Nemechek) Tomanek

Louise Darlene (Nemechek) Tomanek, age 85, of WaKeeney, KS, passed away on Tuesday, July 7, 2020, peacefully at her home. Darlene was born in WaKeeney August 2,1934, to Louis and Johanna (Gaschler) Nemechek. She graduated from Trego Community High School in 1952. 

Darlene was united in marriage to Laverne Tomanek on October 20, 1952. They were happily married for 58 years until his passing on July 12, 2011. She was a lifetime member of Christ the King Catholic Church. Darlene was also a member of the Altar Society. Darlene was a gifted seamstress. She was well known for her talent and kindness. She made countless alterations to a variety of clothes. She also designed and made wedding dresses, prom dresses and just about anything that had to do with sewing. She was known for her talent in the kitchen; her baked goods were known among family and friends.  Sitting down to a good book was a favorite pastime.  She cherished time with friends and family.

Survivors include 5 children: Pam (Dennis) Ehlts of Salina, KS, Peggy(Danny) Smith of Great Bend, KS, Judy Jordan of Great Bend, Rita (Jim) Mernagh of Wichita, KS, and Eddie (Christy) Tomanek of Topeka, KS; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; sisters Charlotte Albers, Betty Lipp, and Mary Jo (Gary) McClanahan; brothers Doug Nemechek and Richard (Carol) Nemechek; and sister-in-law Maxine (Duane) Lindsay. 

Darlene was preceded in death by both parents; her husband; son Danny Tomanek; infant son Rodney Tomanek; grandson J.J. Axman; brothers George and Bill Nemechek; and son-in-law Mike Axman.

Visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00 PM, Thursday, July 9, 2020, at Schmitt Funeral Home, WaKeeney, with a parish vigil service to follow at 7:00 PM.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 AM, Friday, July 10, 2020, at Christ the King Catholic Church, WaKeeney. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
