Genevieve Ann (Hruza) Morris

Genevieve Ann (Hruza) Morris, 86, passed away Sunday, October 18, 2020. She was a resident of the Minneapolis Health and Rehabilitation Center.  She was born August 27, 1934 in Edgemont, South Dakota to John and Elizabeth (Wiles) Hruza.

She and Norman Morris were united in marriage on April 1, 1952 at Burr Oak, Kansas.  She held a deep love for children and was an early elementary teacher throughout most of her life. 

After their marriage, the army sent Norman to Korea and Genevieve began earning her teaching certificate at Fort Hays. In 1953 her teaching career began in a one room schoolhouse near Burr Oak, Kansas.  She then taught at the public grade school in Burr Oak.  Next was Valley View School near Webber, Kansas. Valley View closed and she taught at Hardy, Nebraska. She and Norman moved to Minden, Nebraska where she worked as a secretary at Pioneer Village.  She missed children and teaching, so she went back to college at McPherson College, McPherson, Kansas to complete her full degree. She began her new teaching career in Lindsay Nebraska Catholic Schools.  She finished her teaching career in Osborne, Kansas and retired in 1995.  She then moved to Minneapolis to be closer to her son Duane and his family. 

She was preceded in death by her parents John and Elizabeth Hruza, her husband Norman Morris, her brother Laverne Hruza, and her sister Mary Lou Tooch. 

Survivors are her brother Joy Hruza of Salina, son Duane (Juanita) Morris of Minneapolis; two grandsons Justin (Denise) Morris of Longview, Texas; Jarod (Krystin) Morris of Bethany, Oklahoma; 10 great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be Thursday, October 22, 2020 at 2 pm at the Burr Oak, Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be to Kindred Hospice and be mailed to Wilson Family Funeral Home, P.O. Box 166, Minneapolis, KS 67467.
