
Helen Ruth Deitering, 86, of Piqua, Ohio, passed away at 9:03 p.m. Sunday, March 6, 2022, at Grandview Medical Center. She was born January 24, 1936, in Owensboro, Kentucky, to the late Joseph P. and Clara R. (Adams) Smith, Sr. She married Elmer H. Deitering August 31, 1957, in Dayton; and he preceded her in death July 10, 2015.
Survivors include two sons, Rick (Candy) Deitering of Covington, Chris (Shannon) Deitering of Hays, Kansas; two daughters, Victoria (Dan) Lowery-Hopkins of Tiffin, Jerri (Kevin) Barlage of Houston; ten grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and one sister, Miriam Lois (Gus) Campbell of Huber Heights. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Joseph and David.
Mrs. Deitering was a 1954 graduate of Catholic High School in Owensboro, Kentucky and attended the University of Dayton. She worked as a secretary at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. She was a dedicated homemaker, mother and grandmother who loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren that meant the world to her. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church where she was heavily involved with many different committees and projects. She was a loving and caring woman who worked tirelessly as the primary caretaker for her mother, stepfather and her husband through their illnesses. She will be remembered for her love she showed to her family.
A graveside service to honor her life will begin at 4:00 p.m. Friday, March 11, 2022, at St. John the Baptist Cemetery, Tipp City with Rev. Fr. Daniel P. Hunt officiating. Visitation will be held from 1:00-3:00 p.m. Friday at the Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home.
