🎾 Tigers top Winona State, run win streak to seven

WINONA, Minn. – Fort Hays State women's tennis ran its win streak to seven-straight matches with a 5-2 road win over Winona State on Wednesday. The Tigers are now 8-2 overall for the season and 2-0 on their current road swing. Winona State fell to 4-8 on the season.

Fort Hays State won four of the six singles matches contested, which were played first due to court availability. All four wins were in straight sets. Alfonso blanked her opponent at No. 2 by scores of 6-0, 6-0. Faucz won the No. 3 match 6-1, 6-3. Grace Unruh won the No. 6 match 7-5, 6-1 and Bethan Gill won the No. 5 match 7-5, 6-3. Pereiro fell in a tight No. 4 match 6-4, 5-7, 10-4 and Vangala dropped the No. 1 match 6-0, 6-0. Gill had the team-clinching win for the Tigers.

The Tigers swept all three doubles matches to pick up the final team point. All three matches were competitive. The No. 1 team of Janae Montoya and Shreethika Vangala and the No. 2 team of Irina Alfonso and Suzana Faucz each won by scores of 6-4. The No. 3 match was really tight as the No. 3 team of Yone Pereiro and Ines Latorre pulled out a 7-6 (7-5) win, even with the team point already clinched from the No. 1 and No. 2 matches.

Gill and Unruh teamed for an exhibition win in doubles and Ines Steeman picked up an exhibition win in singles.

The Tigers are scheduled to play at Truman State University on Thursday at 2 p.m. in Kirksville, Mo.
