LILBURN, Ga. - After opening the year with a pair of wins, including one over then-11th-ranked Concordia-St. Paul, the Fort Hays State women's basketball team has climbed to No. 3 in Tuesday's WBCA Division II Coaches Poll (Nov. 18). The Tiger had opened the year ranked ninth in the country before moving up six spots this week.

Fort Hays State racked up 446 points in the balloting process this week, up from 338 last week. The Tigers are one of two MIAA teams ranked in the top three and one of four Central Region programs inside this week's top 10, joined by No. 2 Pittsburg State, No. 8 Minnesota State Mankato and No. 10 Harding. The defending national champions in Grand Valley State still top the poll after opening the year 4-0.

This is the 11th time the Tigers have been ranked third in the national poll. FHSU climbed as high as No. 3 last season, reaching that spot in the sixth release of the regular season on December 31, 2024. The Tigers are 21-7 all-time when ranked third in the coaches poll. FHSU's 21 wins when ranked third are second only to No. 5 (24-4) when it comes to number of victories by national ranking.

The Tigers have now been listed in 122 different releases of the WBCA Division II Coaches Poll, including 43 appearances in the top five and 81 mentions inside the top 10 in the country. FHSU is 187-48 all-time when ranked, including a 73-17 mark when ranked inside the top five and a 133-28 record when ranked inside the top 10.

Fort Hays State will continue its non-conference slate this weekend (Nov. 21-22) when the Tigers head to Wichita, Kan. for the Newman Classic. FHSU will first take on Eastern New Mexico on Friday before battling William Jewell on Saturday, with both games slated for 3 p.m. starts.
