
Doren Dean Follis of Hoxie, Kansas departed this life January 19, 2021
at the age of 91 years with family at his side. Doren was born at
Greeley, Kansas on June 21, 1929. Almost one year later on June 16,
1930, John and Anna (Walden) Follis adopted Doren by paying a fee of
$2.50 at the courthouse. Two years later a girl, Janese, was adopted and
welcomed to the family.
Doren grew up in the Chicago community northeast of Hoxie going to
all of grade school in the country school. He enjoyed 4-H and playing
ball with the other country schools’ students.
After their home was hit by a tornado, they moved west of Hoxie and
Doren attended Hoxie High School graduating in 1947. There he met Irene
(Cooper). They were married June 12, 1949. Doren and Irene’s family
grew to include daughter Terry Lynn and sons Eric Doren, Elliot Lee and
Clint Alan. Recently they were blessed to celebrate their 70th
anniversary.
Doren loved farming and especially took pleasure in caring for his
cattle. He never knew a stranger and enjoyed square dancing, playing
cards and being called “Trouble” by his many friends. Doren developed a
love of traveling after the purchase of a small RV. Throughout the
years they were able to travel to many states.
Doren was active in many organizations: 4-H, Fair Board, Farm
Bureau, Co-op, Republican Party and his church. His most rewarding
activity was seeing that the LTC had a church fellowship every week for
the past 40 years.
Doren was predeceased by parents John and Anna (Walden) Follis,
sister Janese (Carl) Ackerman, son Elliot Follis in 1977 and great
grandson Ezra Etherton.
Doren is survived by his wife Thelma Irene of the home, Terry (Bob)
Schirk Pittsburg, Ks, Eric (Teresa) Follis Wichita, Ks, Clint (Annette)
Follis Hoxie, Ks, 9 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, 7 step great
grandchildren and 1 step great great grandchild.
At Doren’s request, he was cremated. A Visitation open to all
friends and family will be held on Saturday, January 23, 2021 from 4:00
P.M. until 6:00 P.M. at the Christ Community Church, Hoxie, Kansas.
There will be no service and a private inurnment will be held.
Memorials are suggested to the Sheridan County Benefit Walk or
Christ Victory Centre children’s refugee school in Africa and may be
