FORD COUNTY —On Monday, the Dodge City Police Department concluded a three-month investigation into high-level cocaine trafficking in the Dodge City area, according to a media release.

During the investigation, police identified 63-year-old Juan Dominguez-Fierro of Dodge City as selling multiple ounces of cocaine. 

Just before 5 a.m. Monday, police arrested Dominguez-Fierro&nbsp; on an arrest warrant issued by the Ford County District Court on four counts of Distribution of Cocaine and four counts of Unlawful Distribution of a Controlled Substance using a Communication Facility. 

At approximately 7:47 am, the DCPD, with assistance from The Kansas Highway Patrol and Alcohol Beverage Control, executed a search warrant in the 2300 block of Hart. The investigation led to the seizure of approximately three ounces of cocaine, a vehicle, and more than $32,000.00 in cash.&nbsp;

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — A judge has refused to block Creighton University’s requirement that all students get vaccinated against COVID-19 despite the objections of a handful of students who said getting the shots would violate their religious beliefs against abortion.

Douglas County District Judge Marlon Polk said last week that he wouldn’t issue a temporary order blocking the vaccine mandate, and he doesn’t believe the students will ultimately prevail with their challenge to the rule because they had signed a form promising to get vaccinated as soon as a vaccine was fully approved by regulators.

The students’ attorney didn’t immediately respond to questions on Monday, so it wasn’t immediately clear if they will continue to press the&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/business-health-religion-education-lawsuits-b6b704b93d8d42a17f2481705f6afd4d">lawsuit</a>.

The private university in Omaha is affiliated with the Jesuit order of the Catholic Church. It mandated that all students get vaccinated in August, after the U.S. Food and Drug Administration&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/coronavirus-vaccine-pfizer-approval-1361ff61d06b815652a08a7cc0683a72">granted full approval&nbsp;</a>to a vaccine made by Pfizer. The university does allow medical exemptions to its vaccine requirements, but not religious ones.

University spokeswoman Cindy Workman said Creighton has long had a policy of not allowing religious waivers for any of its vaccine requirements. The university&nbsp;<a href="https://www.creighton.edu/about/covid-19-response" target="_blank">says it believes students</a>&nbsp;have a moral responsibility to get the coronavirus vaccine to protect the community.

“Creighton University, like so many institutions of higher learning around the country, has consistently stated that vaccinations remain our single greatest defense against the COVID-19 virus,” Workman said. “In addition to the requirement that all Creighton students receive the vaccination, staff and faculty were strongly encouraged to do so, and very nearly 100 percent of all Creighton employees have been vaccinated.”

The lawsuit said the ten students who signed on as plaintiffs all had religious objections to COVID-19 vaccines because “the vaccines were developed and/or tested using abortion derived fetal cell lines.”

Judge refused to block Creighton University's vaccine mandate

TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) — A former Kansas utility worker accused of remotely tampering with a public water system’s cleaning procedures has notified a federal court that he plans to change his plea.

Wyatt Travnichek, 22, of Ellsworth County was indicted in March with remotely accessing the Post Rock Rural Water District’s systems in March 2019, about two months after he quit his job with the utility.

He initially pleaded not guilty to the charge. He’s accused of shutting down the facility’s cleaning and disinfecting procedures. When he worked for the utility, he would monitor the water plant remotely by logging into its computer system. A notation entered in the docket on Monday shows his change-of-plea hearing is set for Oct. 20 before U.S. District Judge Toby Crouse in Topeka.

TOPEKA, KAN. – A Kansas man has been indicted on a federal charge accusing him of tampering with a public water system, according to Acting U.S. Attorney Duston Slinkard.

Wyatt A. Travnichek, 22, of Ellsworth County, Kansas is charged with one count of tampering with a public water system and one count of reckless damage to a protected computer during unauthorized access.

“Our office is committed to maintaining and improving its partnership with the state of Kansas in the administration and implementation of the Safe Drinking Water Act of 1974,” said Acting U.S. Attorney Duston Slinkard. “Drinking water that is considered safe is essential to the protection of the public’s health.”

The indictment alleges that on or about March 27, 2019, in the District of Kansas, Travnichek knowingly accessed the Ellsworth County Rural Water District’s protected computer system without authorization. During this unauthorized access, it is alleged Travnichek performed activities that shut down the processes at the facility which affect the facilities cleaning and disinfecting procedures with the intention of harming the Ellsworth Rural Water District No. 1, also known as Post Rock Rural Water District.

“By illegally tampering with a public drinking water system, the defendant threatened the safety and health of an entire community,” said Lance Ehrig, Special Agent in Charge of EPA’s Criminal Investigation Division in Kansas. “EPA and its law enforcement partners are committed to upholding the laws designed to protect our drinking water systems from harm or threat of harm. Today’s indictment sends a clear message that individuals who intentionally violate these laws will be vigorously prosecuted.”

Upon conviction, the alleged crimes carry the following penalties:

Tampering with a Public Water System: Up to 20 years in federal prison and a fine up to $250,000.

Reckless Damage to a Protected Computer During Unauthorized Access: Up to 5 years in federal prison and a fine up to $250,000.

SHAWNEE COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities are investigating a fatal accident and have identified the victim as&nbsp;31-year old Robert A. Zimmerman of Osage City.

Just after 3p.m. Monday, police responded the area of the 2000 Block of SW Fairlawn Road for accident involving a van and motorcyclist, according to Lt. Edward Stanley. The motorcyclist identified as Zimmerman was pronounced deceased at the scene.&nbsp;

SW Fairlawn Rd between SW 19th St. and SW 20th street was closed off while officers investigated. The accident remains under investigation, according to Lt. Manuel Munoz.

Police: Kansas man dies after motorcycle, van crash

TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) — Leaders of the Republican-controlled Kansas Legislature on Monday agreed to create a committee to examine the impact of COVID-19 mandates and what they called government overreach, partly in response to Democratic President Joe Biden’s federal vaccine requirements.

“We need to check the federal government pretty hard and stop them,” said Senate Vice President Rick Wilborn, a McPherson Republican.

One senior Democrat said the formation of such a committee would further politicize the pandemic. Democratic Gov. Laura Kelly and all state House members are up for reelection in 2022.

Republican Senate President Ty Masterson and Republican House Speaker Ron Ryckman will appoint the 11 committee members, who will meet for up to five days and hear public testimony.

Backlash came swiftly from Senate Minority Leader Dinah Sykes, a Lenexa Democrat, who said legislative leaders need to protect Kansans from COVID-19 and keep the economy growing.

“We’ve had 6,000 deaths in Kansas because of COVID and, you know, I just don’t want this committee to politicize this anymore,” Sykes said.

Masterson, an Andover Republican, responded: “The bad news is I don’t think we can make it more political than the Biden administration has made it. So I’m with you on solutions.”

House Minority Leader Tom Sawyer, a Wichita Democrat, said the panel could also examine how the state can encourage Kansas residents to follow U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidance or get vaccinated.

Earlier this month, Biden unveiled new rules that&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/joe-biden-business-health-coronavirus-pandemic-26bace6485d88ad1ae3ef2aea60fbb65">mandate</a>&nbsp;all employers with more than 100 workers require them to be vaccinated or test for the virus weekly.

The spread of the more-contagious delta variant has caused a surge in new COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations in Kansas for three months, stressing hospitals and causing outbreaks in schools, even as some parents and officials objected to mask mandates.

Kansas lags behind the national vaccination rate. The CDC reported Monday that 50.8% of the state’s 2.9 million residents have been fully vaccinated, compared with 55.3% of the U.S. Five New England states had more than 67% of their residents fully vaccinated.

Who has authority to issue mandates has been debated throughout the pandemic in Kansas. Last year, Kelly ordered all K-12 buildings&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/topeka-legislature-ks-state-wire-virus-outbreak-public-health-85b7cde685dff1a61aeddc24e77bdd17">closed</a>&nbsp;in mid-March for the rest of the spring semester to check the spread of the coronavirus. She also ordered a statewide stay-at-home order that closed businesses for five weeks starting March 30.

Last year, the Legislature passed and Kelly signed a law to give county officials authority to issue mask mandates and public health restrictions for businesses and public gatherings. It also gave legislative leaders the power to block the governor’s executive orders and stripped appointed local health officers of their power to impose restrictions, leaving decisions to elected county commissions.

Kelly didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.

Kansas lawmakers to examine impact of COVID mandates

MANHATTAN —Law enforcement authorities are investigating a shooting in Riley County.

Just after 3p.m. Monday, officers responded to the report of a gunshot victim on Robyler Road. in Riley County, according to police spokesperson Aaron Wintermote.

When officers arrived on scene, they found a 66-year-old man suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.

The victim reported being shot by Larry Wurtz, 69, of Manhattan after an altercation between the two men.

The victim was transported to Via Christ for treatment of his gunshot wounds. Wurtz was also transported to Via Christi for treatment of an unrelated medical issue and then to the Riley County Jail after his release. He is being held in lieu of bond.

RILEY COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities are investigating a shooting in Riley County and have made an arrest.

Just after 3p.m. Monday,&nbsp; officers responded to a shooting on Roblyer Road off Tuttle Creek Blvd north of Randolph, according to a social media report.

EMS transported a 66-year-old gunshot victim to a local hospital for treatment. Police took a 69-year-old man into custody without incident. Police have not released names of those involved.

Police ID 66-year-old Kansas man injured in shooting

WASHINGTON (AP) — Republican senators blocked a bill to keep the government operating and allow federal borrowing, but Democrats aiming to avert a shutdown pledged to try again — at the same time pressing ahead on President Joe Biden’s big plans to reshape government.

The efforts are not necessarily linked, but the fiscal yearend deadline to fund the government past Thursday is bumping up against the Democrats’ desire to make progress on&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/joe-biden-business-financial-markets-nancy-pelosi-3b591443b048d2fbfb7a9f9b6f646f7a">Biden’s expansive $3.5 trillion federal overhaul.</a>

It’s all making for a tumultuous moment for Biden and his party, with consequences certain to shape his presidency and the lawmakers’ own political futures.

Success would mean a landmark accomplishment, if Democrats can helm Biden’s big bill to passage. Failure — or a highly unlikely government shutdown and debt crisis — could derail careers.

“You know me, I’m a born optimist,” Biden told reporters Monday, as he rolled up his sleeve for a COVID-19 booster shot. “We’re gonna get it done.”

Monday’s 50-48 vote against taking up the bill fell well short of the 60 needed to proceed over a GOP filibuster. Democratic Majority Leader Chuck Schumer switched his vote to “no,” a procedural step to allow him to bring the measure back for consideration, which he said would happen this week.

With days to go, Democrats said they will try again before Thursday’s deadline to pass a bill funding government operations past the Sept. 30 fiscal yearend, stripping out the debate over the debt limit for another day, closer to a separate October deadline.

Meanwhile, the real action is unfolding behind the scenes over the $3.5 trillion measure, with Biden and his Democratic allies in Congress seeking a once-in-a-generation reworking of the nation’s balance sheets.

From free pre-kindergarten and child care subsidies for families with small children to dental care and hearing aids for seniors with Medicare, there’s a lot in the president’s proposal — all to be paid for with higher taxes on corporations and the wealthy.

With Republicans solidly opposed, Democrats are rushing to trim the total and win holdouts within their own party.

“We just have to make difficult choices,” Speaker Nancy Pelosi told House Democrats during an evening caucus meeting, according to a person granted anonymity to discuss the private session.

As the overall price tag comes down, Pelosi said the president is “working on that piece,” referring to talks underway with the Senate. Despite the rush to amass votes, Pelosi said the House Democrats would not move ahead on a bill until it is acceptable to their colleagues in the Senate. “We’re not there yet,” she said.

Exiting the caucus meeting, Rep. Richard Neal, D-Mass., the chairman of the Way &amp; Means Committee, said as momentum builds toward Thursday, he was expecting a new total amount: “Let’s pop the number.”

Building on a separate $1 trillion bipartisan public works package that’s already cleared the Senate and is heading for a House vote, also Thursday, Biden is seeking major spending for health care, education and efforts to tackle climate change. The total price tag, he contends, is actually “zero” — covered by the expected increase in tax revenue.

He is personally calling fellow Democrats in Congress an effort to resolve differences and bring his sweeping domestic policy vision forward.

Ticking off the weighty list of goals along with meeting the other deadlines, Biden said, “If we do that, the country’s going to be in great shape.”

Biden, Pelosi and Schumer conferred in the afternoon on the path forward and will “continue their close coordination over the coming days,” the White House said in a readout of the call.

The bill Senate Republicans rejected Monday night would have funded government operations temporarily, to early December, while also providing emergency funds for Hurricane Ida and other disaster relief and for Afghan refugees.

Republican leader Mitch McConnell rejected that approach because Democrats also included a provision to suspend the debt limit, which would allow continued borrowing to pay off the nation’s bills.

Once a routine matter, raising the debt limit is now a political weapon of choice wielded by Republicans to attack Democrats — even though both parties have been responsible for piling on debt.

“The Democrats will do the responsible thing — the right thing, the thing that has been done for decades by both parties — and vote yes,” said Schumer ahead of the vote.

He called the Republican opposition “unhinged.”

McConnell has said he wants to fund the government and prevent a devastating debt default, but wants to force Democrats to split the package in two and take the politically uncomfortable debt ceiling vote on their own.

“Republicans are not rooting for a shutdown or a debt limit breach,” he said.

The House began debating the public works bill late Monday, and while it won bipartisan support in the Senate, House Republican leaders are wary of supporting it. Donald Trump, the former president who tried and failed to secure an infrastructure deal when he was in the White House, is rallying opposition to it.

As Pelosi huddled privately Monday with House Democrats, it was clear she is pressing ahead to move as swiftly as possible on Biden’s broader package.

Biden’s proposal is to be paid for by increasing the corporate tax rate, from 21% to 26.5% on businesses earning more than $5 million a year, and raising the top rate on individuals from 37% to 39.6% for those earning more than $400,000 a year, or $450,000 for couples.

While Democrats are largely in agreement on Biden’s vision — many ran their campaigns on the longstanding party priorities — stubborn disputes remain, including how to push toward cleaner energy or to lower prescription drug costs.

JACKSON COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities are investigating a woman for alleged drug distribution.

&nbsp;Just after 3a.m. Sept. 25, a sheriff's deputy conducted a traffic stop on a 1999 Toyota Corolla near 110th and U.S. Highway 75, according to Sheriff Tim Morse.

&nbsp;A Jackson County Sheriff’s K-9 indicated with a positive alert for the presence of illegal narcotics within the vehicle.&nbsp; Deputies arrested the passenger, Ashley Dawn Kuykendall, 37, of Topeka, on requested charges of felony distribution of a hallucinogenic drug and possession of drug paraphernalia. 

Deputies also arrested the driver, Robert Jason Hobbs, 45, of Fairview, on an outstanding Brown County warrant for drugs.

On Sept. 24, police booked a 17-year-old boy into the Juvenile Intake Assessment Center,&nbsp;700 South Hydraulic in Sedgwick, Kansas&nbsp; on requested charges of that included three counts of battery of a law enforcement officer,&nbsp;according to Col. Brian White with the Sedgwick County Sheriff's Office.

While in custody, the teen also assaulted juvenile assessment center staff and was restrained with handcuffs and more&nbsp;<a href="https://www.wichita.gov/WPD/WPDPolicyAndProcedureManual/Policy%20915%20-%20WRAP%20Restraint%20Systems.pdf">including the WRAP process,</a> according to White. After he was restrained, the teen became unresponsive and officials contacted emergency medical services. EMS transported the teen to a local hospital. He died on Sunday, according to White.

The Kansas Bureau of Investigation is in charge of the investigation. The Sedgwick County Sheriff's office is assisting. The Sheriff's office does not oversee the Juvenile Intake Assessment Center, according to White. The county runs that facility.

The deputy who questioned Lam said she told him, “We were drunk driving,” and said the crash was her fault. The girl died as paramedics tried to treat her injuries. The affidavit says Lam told a deputy she had consumed several shots of tequila at a party before driving.

Lam had minor injuries. The passenger, Lam's 5-year-old daughter Aleah A. Reyes of Wichita was unresponsive.&nbsp; EMS provided life saving measures to Reyes but she was pronounced deceased at 3:39a.m., according to Blick.

During the accident investigation deputies discovered evidence that indicated alcohol may have contributed to the accident, according to Blick. Kan. woman admitted 'drunk driving' before crash that killed daughter

TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) — The pastor of a Catholic parish in Topeka has been suspended from his public duties after being accused of sexually abusing a minor, the archdiocese for northeast Kansas announced Monday.

The Rev. John Pilcher of Mater Dei parish denies the allegation and is fully cooperating, the Archdiocese of Kansas City in Kansas said. He will remain on leave until an investigation is complete and an independent review board has made a recommendation to Archbishop Joseph Naumann.

The archdiocese said that law enforcement was notified and announcement about the allegation made at all weekend Masses.

The parish includes two churches, Assumption across the street north of the Statehouse and Holy Name in central Topeka. They once were in separate parishes that merged in 2006.

The archdiocese said anyone with knowledge about the case regarding Pilcher or about any other misconduct should contact civil authorities first, then make a report to its confidential report line.

Kansas priest suspended after allegation of sexual abuse

ATCHISON COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities are investigating a Kansas felon on new charges after an arrest.

Just after 11p.m. Sunday an officer on patrol in downtown Atchison&nbsp; observed a vehicle with 23-year-old Ioannis Markou as a passenger and knew there to be an active warrant for his arrest, according to Police Chief Mike Wilson.

The warrant charging him with criminal possession of a weapon, leaving the scene of an accident, no proof of insurance, and reckless driving was in connection to a traffic accident police investigated on August 9th in the 800 block South 6th Street.

The officer stopped the vehicle near 3rd and Santa Fe and Markou jumped from the vehicle and ran. Officers apprehended him a short distance away. Markou was found to be in possession of the controlled substances as well as a hangun, according to Wilson.

Markou of Atchison is being held on requested charges of&nbsp; possession of a weapon by a felon, possession of controlled substances, including methamphetamine, cocaine, and marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, interference with law enforcement, and a District Court warrant for criminal possession of a weapon by a convicted felon, leaving the scene of an accident, no proof of insurance, and reckless driving.&nbsp;

But the aggressive American push for boosters, before many poorer nations have been able to provide even a modicum of protection for their most vulnerable populations, has drawn the ire of the World Health Organization and some aid groups, which have called on the U.S. to pause third shots to free up supply for the global vaccination effort.

Biden said last week that the U.S. was purchasing another 500 million doses of the Pfizer vaccine — for a total of 1 billion over the coming year — to donate to less well off nations.

Vice President Kamala Harris, 56, received the Moderna vaccine, for which federal regulators have not yet authorized boosters — but they are expected to in the coming weeks. Regulators are also expecting data about the safety and efficacy of a booster for the single-dose Johnson &amp; Johnson shot soon.

At least 2.66 million Americans have received booster doses of the Pfizer vaccine since mid-August, according to the CDC. About 100 million Americans have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19 through the Pfizer shot. U.S. regulators recommend getting the boosters at least six months after the second shot of the initial two-dose series.

President Biden jokes about his age, gets COVID-19 booster shot

LAWRENCE, Kansas — While Kansas inches toward a 2022 
vote that could reel back abortion rights, U.S. Rep. Sharice Davids 
wants to enshrine access to the procedure in federal law so that states 
like her own can’t ban it.

Her backing of the bill — along with 
the majority of Democrats in the U.S. House — comes on the heels of the 
U.S. Supreme Court declining to block a <a href="https://www.npr.org/2021/09/01/1033202132/texas-abortion-ban-what-happens-next" target="_blank">Texas law</a>
 banning abortions after six weeks into a pregnancy, before most women 
know they’re pregnant. The vote will come days after the Supreme Court 
announced it will hear a direct challenge in <a href="https://www.scotusblog.com/2021/09/major-abortion-case-set-for-argument-on-dec-1/" target="_blank">December</a> to the landmark Roe v. Wade case that gave Americans abortion rights.

“Having
 the legislative safeguard to protect access to the full range of health
 care,” Davids said. “It’s important … no matter what state you live in,
 that includes Kansas.”

The lone Democrat representing Kansas in Congress is among more than 200 Democrats co-sponsoring the <a href="https://www.congress.gov/bill/117th-congress/house-bill/3755/text?r=1&amp;s=1" target="_blank">Women’s Health Protection Act</a>.
 The bill, which the U.S. House is set to vote on this week, would 
enshrine abortion protections at the federal level and overturn many of 
the stringent restrictions that states have already passed. That would 
likely include some laws in Kansas like state-required counseling before
 a procedure and a ban on telemedicine abortions.

With 212 co-sponsors, the bill would only need six more backers to pass the U.S. House. Senate passage looks <a href="https://www.vox.com/20930358/codify-roe-wade-womens-health-protection-act-supreme-court-nancy-pelosi-democrats" target="_blank">far less likely</a>.

While
 the push for federal abortion rights legislation is perennial on 
Capitol Hill, the stakes run higher in anticipation that the 
increasingly conservative high court could overturn Roe v. Wade. That 
would open the way for individual states to effectively shut down 
abortions — particularly if the justices grant states the power to 
restrict abortions even when the fetus is unable to live outside the 
womb.

More <a href="https://www.npr.org/2021/07/09/1014475875/abortion-rights-laws-states-record-conservatives" target="_blank">anti-abortion legislation</a> has been passed by state legislatures in 2021 than in any other year.

“It’s
 no longer, ‘Oh, this could happen or, we’re telling these really 
extreme stories so that people will rally around abortion, right?’” said
 Alesha Doan a professor of women, gender and sexuality studies and 
public affairs at the University of Kansas.

“It is, ‘Well, this is
 what is happening in Texas,’” she said, “It’s very easy to see it 
happening in states that are already extremely hostile to reproductive 
rights, and Kansas ranks up there at the top.”

None of the three 
Republicans representing Kansas in the U.S. House are listed as 
co-sponsors. U.S. Reps. Jake LaTurner, Ron Estes and Tracey Mann all 
campaign as staunchly anti-abortion and are likely to vote against the 
bill.

Danielle Underwood, a spokesperson for Kansans for Life, said the state shouldn’t be deprived of regulating abortion clinics.

“We
 think that just as restaurants have regulations on them, as gyms have 
regulations and medical outpatient facilities have regulations on 
them... this is no different,” she said.

“This is not an industry,” Underwood said, “that should just be unlimited in its operations and in its business practices.”

In
 Kansas, more of the attention is being directed to the Legislature and 
an amendment that would change the state constitution to say there’s no 
right to an abortion. It’s slated for the August 2022 primary.

Republicans
 in the Legislature could further restrict abortion access in Kansas if 
the amendment is passed. But in the wake of the six-week ban in Texas, 
leading anti-abortion voices, including Republican leaders in the 
Legislature and the powerful anti-abortion rights group Kansans for 
Life, have said all their energy is focused on the constitutional 
amendment to protect abortion restrictions already in Kansas law.

“Every
 common-sense policy — including the ability to regulate the cleanliness
 and safety of clinics — is at risk” if the amendment fails, said House 
Speaker Ron Ryckman.

Michelle Schroeder, chief of policy and 
communications for state Senate President Ty Masterson, accused abortion
 rights advocates of making Kansas a “tourist attraction” for abortion 
and advertising to women from Texas, who currently face the tightest 
abortion restrictions in the country.

The message from Kansas 
abortion advocates to women in Texas, “clearly demonstrates the need for
 common-sense regulations,” Schroeder said. But, passing the 
constitutional amendment, she said, “That is our priority."

Doan said there’s a reason to attempt a ban later, contrary to what lawmakers in states like <a href="https://apnews.com/article/health-texas-bills-legislature-st-louis-3acf897f87c0822048fd089c924b8ed1" target="_blank">Missouri</a> have done.

“A six-week abortion ban erases a lot of that agenda,” Doan said. “Because that makes it moot if that ban is in place.”

Four
 other states — Alabama, Louisiana, Tennessee and West Virginia — have 
rewritten their state constitutions to specify there’s no right to an 
abortion. <a href="https://apnews.com/article/laws-us-news-us-supreme-court-courts-supreme-courts-cf78053d48a1801fbcb44b9b6aaa1a10" target="_blank">Tennessee</a> and <a href="https://abcnews.go.com/US/louisiana-set-latest-state-sign-abortion-ban-law/story?id=63370943" target="_blank">Louisiana</a> have since passed six-week abortion bans and Alabama passed a <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2019/10/29/us/alabama-abortion-ban.html" target="_blank">near-total abortion ban</a>. But all of those state actions have been blocked by the courts.

Kansas lawmakers introduced a bill that would ban abortions at six weeks in 2013, but the <a href="http://www.kslegislature.org/li_2014/b2013_14/measures/hb2324/" target="_blank">bil</a>l died in a House committee.

KDHE: More than 6,000 Kansans dead due to COVID-19

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Chiefs coach Andy Reid was released from the hospital Monday after he felt ill and was taken by ambulance to be treated for dehydration following their 30-24 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers. 

Chiefs spokesman Ted Crews said that Reid was “in great spirits” and that he planned to visit the practice facility later in the day or Tuesday. In the meantime, Chiefs coordinators Steve Spagnuolo and Eric Bieniemy ran the Monday film reviews. The 63-year-old Reid is expected to coach Sunday when the Chiefs visit Philadelphia.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Chiefs coach Andy Reid is resting and in stable condition after being taken to a hospital following Kansas City's 30-24 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday.

The Chiefs released a statement Sunday night saying Reid was evaluated by the medical staff in the locker room after the game and was transported to The University of Kansas Health System for further evaluation as a precaution.

“Coach is doing well, currently resting &amp; in stable condition,” the statement posted on Twitter said.

The 63-year-old Reid was feeling ill but coached the duration of the game, a team spokesman said.

Assistant coach Dave Toub answered questions following a second straight fourth-quarter letdown.

“Coach just wasn't feeling well,"&nbsp;<a href="https://www.chiefs.com/video/dave-toub-it-s-not-about-effort-we-ve-just-got-to-clean-it-up-week-3-press-confe">Toub said afterward</a>. "He did talk to the team.”

In fact, quarterback Patrick Mahomes said his coach “seemed fine on the sideline as well” as the Chiefs (1-2) threw away an opportunity to beat the Chargers with&nbsp;<a href="https://pro32.ap.org/article/chargers-rally-beat-turnover-prone-chiefs-30-24-kc">four turnovers, several costly penalties and numerous missed assignments</a>.

“He came in and talked to us and he seemed fine,” Mahomes said of the postgame locker room. “That's all I really know.”

The Chiefs began the game by turning over the ball on three straight possessions, including a pair of fumbles and a pass from Mahomes that bounced off his intended wide receiver and into the hands of the Chargers' Asante Samuel Jr.

It basically ended with Mahomes throwing another interception with 1:42 left in the fourth quarter.

The game was still tied at that point, but their suspect defense — which had allowed 12 straight red-zone trips to turn into touchdowns to start the season — seemed to make it a foregone conclusion that Los Angeles was headed for the end zone.

The Chiefs allowed a 15-yard pass to Keenan Allen on third down, then DeAndre Baker was called for pass interference on fourth a few minutes later to give Los Angeles a fresh set of down. Justin Herbert then hit Mike Williams with back-to-back passes, and the second with 32 seconds left in the game gave the Chargers the lead for good.

Asked what Reid said afterward, running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire replied: “Pretty much it's not going to be over-the-top as far as him getting on us. We know what we did wrong. We know what we need to get corrected.”

(AP) — Chiefs coach Andy Reid was released from the hospital Monday after he felt ill and was taken by ambulance to be treated for dehydration following their 30-24 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers. Chiefs spokesman Ted Crews said that Reid was “in great spirits” and that he planned to visit the practice facility later in the day or Tuesday. In the meantime, Chiefs coordinators Steve Spagnuolo and Eric Bieniemy ran the Monday film reviews. The 63-year-old Reid is expected to coach Sunday when the Chiefs visit Philadelphia.--------KANSAS CITY, Mo.
