Lawmakers react after shooting at Kansas high school

JOHNSON COUNTY —State and national leaders issued statements Friday after a student at Olathe East High School shot and wounded the school resource officer and a school administrator.

Just after 10:30 a.m, police and emergency crews responded to report of a shooting at the school at 127th Street and Black Bob Road.

The campus was locked down, and police took a suspect identified as a student at the school into custody. The student was also wounded in the exchange of gunfire.

EMS transported the school resource officer and administrator to Overland Park Regional Medical Center for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, according to Olathe Police.  The shooting happened in the office area of the school. No other students were injured, according to police.
