There will be no March Madness in Wichita next spring.

The
 NCAA said Monday it plans to move its entire 68-team men’s basketball 
tournament to Indiana for safety reasons. This year’s tournament was 
canceled just as the pandemic was beginning in March.

Brad 
Pittman, senior associate athletic director at Wichita State University,
 was helping coordinate the tournament games in Wichita. He says the 13 
host cities got the news Monday in a conference call with the NCAA.

"Obviously
 you're disappointed," Pittman said. "You work hard and these events, 
they're marquee events that you'd like to have in your city.

"I 
think in the back of our mind, we all kind of understood and knew that 
if things got bad, this was an option that would be considered."

The Final Four already was scheduled for Indianapolis, home of the NCAA.

The
 NCAA said having all the teams play in a single geographic area will 
cut down on travel for participating teams. It also will allow the NCAA 
to maintain a controlled environment for team hotels, and for practice 
and competition sites.

The NBA recently completed its season by 
having all of its teams stay and play in Orlando, Florida, where the 
league could react to any health issues.

"We have learned so much
 from monitoring other successful sporting events in the last several 
months, and it became clear it’s not feasible to manage this complex 
championship in so many different states with the challenges presented 
by the pandemic," Dan Gavitt, the NCAA’s senior vice president of 
basketball, said in a statement. "However, we are developing a solid 
plan to present a safe, responsible and fantastic March Madness 
tournament unlike any other we’ve experienced."

Pittman said the NCAA’s decision, though difficult for local basketball fans, makes sense.

"They're
 looking at this from the perspective of how can we pull off a 
tournament and do it the safest way possible," he said. "And this was 
the conclusion they came to."

Pittman said earlier this year that
 even if Wichita were to host games, there likely would be a limited 
number of fans in attendance. Tournament games here in 2018 drew sellout
 crowds to Intrust Bank Arena, in large part because the Kansas Jayhawks
 were in the field.

The NCAA men’s tournament is scheduled to 
return to Wichita in 2025, and the women’s tournament in 2022. The NCAA 
has not announced its plans for the 2021 women’s tournament.

College
 basketball teams, including WSU, are scheduled to begin play on Nov. 
25. Pittman said he would resume focusing on the Shockers, including how
 many fans will be allowed into Koch Arena.

"For me, it's going 
back to my day job and working on what our season's going to look like 
here in a little bit and trying to make that the best it can possibly 
be," he said.

"And when the dust settles on this and it's appropriate, we'll start looking at (2022) and see what we can do there."

A brief stipulation of dismissal was filed Monday by the American Civil Liberties Union of Kansas. The ACLU had alleged in the lawsuit that Highland Community College instituted a plan to reduce the number of black students. 

The college has said its recruiting is not determined by students’ race or ethnicity and denied it ever instructed coaches to exclude out-of-state athletes from recruitment.

WICHITA, Kan. The ACLU alleges in a federal lawsuit filed Thursday that Highland Community College instituted a plan six months ago to reduce the number of black students. It contends the college’s strategy included expelling black students for minor or bogus infractions and singling them out for dorm room and vehicle searches, discriminatory surveillance and harassment.

Filed on behalf of four former and current students, the lawsuit names Eric Ingmire, vice president for student services, and Bryan Dorrel, the college’s athletic director, as defendants. They did not immediately respond to email messages seeking comment.

Highland Community College has more than 3,200 students, 87% of whom are white. During the 2019 season, 104 of the 111 football players were black. The 2020 football recruiting class includes “a significantly lower number” of black athletes, the lawsuit alleges.

The lawsuit alleges Dorrel told coaches to recruit “more local kids” and “less Southern kids.”

LAS VEGAS (AP) — For most of Derek Carr’s career with the Raiders, he’s had to carry a heavy load whenever the team had success.

That’s what made this game so enjoyable with a powerful running game and opportunistic defense stepping up.

Josh Jacobs ran for&nbsp;<a href="https://twitter.com/Raiders/status/1328116456614096896?s=20" target="_blank">112 yards and two TDs</a>&nbsp;and Jeff Heath had two of Las Vegas’&nbsp;<a href="https://twitter.com/Raiders/status/1328091807482220547?s=20" target="_blank">five takeaways&nbsp;</a>to help the Raiders beat the Denver Broncos 37-12 on Sunday for their third straight win.

“It’s kind of awesome,” Carr said. “As I get older, I let the young guys do more of the work. It’s kind of nice that we can win in multiple ways. Coach preaches it all the time, once we find what’s working, we’re going to keep doing that.”

The Raiders (6-3) have topped 150 yards rushing in three straight games for the second time in the past 10 seasons and the defense has shown signs of improvement of late capped by the four interceptions and one fumble recovery for a team that entered the game tied for the fewest takeaways in the league with five.

“I know that the game starts with the run and ends with the run. That’s a testament to the O-line,” Jacobs said. “The last three weeks in a row we’ve had 150-plus yards on the ground. It’s good to see we’re putting our dominance on the game.”

Heath intercepted Drew Lock twice in the first half,&nbsp;<a href="https://twitter.com/Raiders/status/1328118151930802179?s=20" target="_blank">Carl Nassib&nbsp;</a>and&nbsp;<a href="https://twitter.com/thecheckdown/status/1328132353160486913?s=20" target="_blank">Nick Kwiatkoski&nbsp;</a>got picks in the fourth quarter and&nbsp;<a href="https://twitter.com/Raiders/status/1328125708908969984?s=20" target="_blank">Nevin Lawson forced and recovered a fumble&nbsp;</a>by DaeSean Hamilton to send the Broncos (3-6) to their third loss in four games.

The game changed late in the first half after Lock appeared to run in for a TD in the closing seconds that would have given the Broncos a 13-10 lead.

Tight end Noah Fant was called for holding in the end zone on the play and Lock threw his second&nbsp;<a href="https://twitter.com/Raiders/status/1328105467952828416?s=20" target="_blank">interception to Heath&nbsp;</a>on the next play.

“Obviously, everybody’s disappointed,” Broncos coach Vic Fangio said. “All of our fingerprints are on that game — coaches and players. Nobody’s happy about it, obviously. In fact, everybody’s probably very disappointed and disgusted by it, that a 10-6 game at halftime can turn out like that. But turnovers will do that to you.”

The Raiders then put the game away with two long scoring drive in the third quarter, leading to a 52-yard field goal by Daniel Carlson and a 5-yard TD run for&nbsp;<a href="https://twitter.com/Raiders/status/1328116456614096896?s=20" target="_blank">Jacobs’ second score</a>.

Carlson added another field goal and&nbsp;<a href="https://twitter.com/Raiders/status/1328130797891506176?s=20" target="_blank">Devontae Booker added two late TD runs</a>&nbsp;against his former team, sending the Raiders to their most lopsided win in the series since a 59-14 victory Oct. 24, 2010.

Las Vegas has now won three straight and is firmly in the playoff hunt with a showdown at home against division-leading Kansas City (8-1) up next.

“We don’t have much time to celebrate,” coach Jon Gruden said. “We have to play the Chiefs. We had 87 punt return yards called back. We had a penalty on fourth-and-inches. We left some plays out there that our guys are capable of making.”

Carr went just 16 for 25 for 154 yards, his third straight game under 200 yards passing. But the Raiders have won all three thanks to an improved running game and defense.

Lock went 23 for 47 for 257 yards, four INTs and a garbage-time TD pass to Hamilton.

“It was pretty normal looks we were expecting,” Lock said. “I just didn’t put the ball in our receivers’ hands. I put it in their hands. Could’ve been some better plays there by me without a doubt.”

Denver receiver Tim Patrick and Las Vegas defensive back Isaiah Johnson were ejected following a scuffle in the fourth quarter. Patrick hit Raiders safety Johnathan Abram in the helmet after getting pushed following a play. Johnson then retaliated with a swing at Patrick.

A couple of special teams blunders by Denver returner Diontae Spencer and a good punt by Las Vegas’ A.J. Cole forced the Broncos to start three of their first four drives of the game inside their 10-yard line. That was the first time the Broncos started three first-half drives inside their 10 in seven years. The results predictably weren’t good with two three-and-outs and an interception.

The storyline coming into the game was the two first-round receivers out of Alabama. But neither Jerry Jeudy nor Henry Ruggs III had big games. Jeudy had four catches for 68 yards for the Broncos, while Ruggs had three for 31 yards for the Raiders.

Broncos: Lock appeared to hurt his ribs after a hit in the first half from Arden Key but stayed in the game.

Raiders: RB Jalen Richard left the game with a chest injury after a hard hit on a kickoff return in the first half. X-rays were negative.

LAWRENCE, Kan.&nbsp;– Kansas men’s basketball signed forward Zachary Clemence to a National Letter of Intent KU head coach Bill Self announced Saturday. Clemence joins forward KJ Adams, who signed earlier in the week, and the two will be freshmen at KU for the 2021-22 season. Clemence (6-foot-10, 210&nbsp;pounds) is a forward from Sunrise Christian Academy in Bel Aire, Kansas. As a junior, Clemence averaged 10.0 points, 4.0 rebounds and shot 47 percent from 3-point range in 2019-20. Sunrise Christian is coached Luke Barnwell and went 22-3 last season. Before moving to Sunrise Christian, Clemence, from San Antonio, played for Findlay Prep in Nevada. “Zach is a 6-foot-10 youngster that can really shoot the ball. We haven’t had anybody here like Zach that is truly a four that can maybe be the best shooter in a game,” Self said. “He’s having a great high school career at Sunrise Christian. He’s from San Antonio originally and is very well drilled. I anticipate him coming in and being able to play multiple positions on the perimeter and if we decide to go really small he would be a nightmare-type matchup for five men. GRAINFIELD - Victoria had two 100-yard rushers and overcame three turnovers Friday night to beat Wheatland-Grinnell 44-26 in the Sectional round of the 8-Man Division II playoffs.

With the win, Victoria (11-0) advances to the state semifinals for the 10th time in school history. They await the winner of Saturday's game between St. Francis and Caldwell.

Jayvon Pruitt rushed for 191 yards and two touchdowns and quarterback Grant Schoenrock added 145 and three scores as Victoria rushed for 390 of their 427 yards of total offense.

Jayvon Pruitt's 17-yard touchdown run capped a nine-play, 55-yard scoring drive and gave the Knights an 8-0 lead after the first quarter. 

A bad snap and two penalties kept Victoria off the board on their first possessIon and a fumble at their own 22 gave Wheatland-Grinnell their first scoring threat but Victoria got a fourth down stop late in the first quarter.

After a fumble at the Thunderhawk 24 ended a potential scoring drive with just under nine minutes to play in the second, Victoria would score on their next two possessions for a 24-6 halftime lead.

Schoenrock capped a 65-yard, five-play drive with a 16 yard touchedown run. He then hit Carson Werth on a 13-yard touchdown pass with 1:25 before halftime.

Wheatland-Grinnell's only score of the first half came on a 48 yard run on third down with 4:26 to play in ther quarter to make the score 16-6.

Wheatland-Grinnell scored touchdowns on their first two possessions of the third quarter to close the gap to 30-20. Trey Vincent threw touchdown passes of 25 and 42 yards to Ryan Heier. They were sandwiched around a nine-yard Pruitt's nine-yard touchdown run for the Knights.

Following a 35-yard kickoff return by Drayden Karlin, Victoria built the lead back to two possessions with a 10-play scoring drive capped by a Schoenrock 3-yard TD run on the first play of the fourth quarter to make the score 36-20.

The Thunderhawks appeared to seize the momentum on the next possession with a 71-yard touchdown pass from Vincent to Johnny Phillips but the play was called back after an offensive pass interference penalty.

Isaac Mendez recovered a fumble and returned it 45 yards for a touchdown to pull Wheatland-Grinnell within 36-26 with 4:51 to play but Victoria answered with a quick four-play, 50-yard scoring drive when ended with a 20-yard touchdown run from Schoenrock with 3:57 to play.

Schoenrock intercepted a pass on the Thunderhawks next possesson and Victoria ran out the clock.

Junior quarterback Jordan Dale is the Offensive Player of the Year, senior
defensive end Gavin Haselhorst grabbed the defensive honor and Indian coach Tony
Crough is the Coach of the Year after guiding Hays to the WAC title.

Dale passed for 472 yards and rushed for 482 and was tied for the WAC lead with seven rushing touchdowns.

Haselhorst led the WAC with 32 tackles for loss, 19 more than teammate Gavin Meyers and had a conference high six quarterback sacks. The Kansas State signee also caused a conference leading four fumbles.

She has twice been a state runner-up with her club team. Maddie is active outside of the field as well, being a NHS Officer, a member of OW Link Crew and an ambassador for Zero Reasons Why campaign in Johnson County. Her high school coach Matt Trumpp had this to say about her, "Maddie is a goalie with great length and instincts. Very good in the air and a competitor that knows how to win at a very high level.&nbsp;Also great with her feet out of the back, a great all-around player." KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The MIAA women's basketball head coaches selected Fort Hays State to finish fifth according to the 2020-21 MIAA Preseason Coaches Poll, released Tuesday (Nov. 10) by the league office during MIAA Basketball Virtual Media Day Presented By Seigfreid Bingham. It is the ninth-consecutive year the Tigers have been listed in the top five of the preseason ranks, dating back to the 2012-13 edition of the poll.

Fort Hays State was ranked at the top of one coaches ballot, helping the Tigers to 125 points in the voting process. The Tigers were one of four teams to receive a first-place vote. Emporia State topped the poll with 153 points and four first-place votes, with Nebraska-Kearney (146 points, six first-place votes), Central Missouri (143 points, three first-place votes) and Pittsburg State (140 points) rounding out the top four. The Tigers turned in a 23-7 overall record last year and qualified for a third-straight trip to the NCAA Division II Central Region Championship before the cancellation of the event. Fort Hays State finished in a tie for fourth in the MIAA standings, going 13-6 in league play and reaching the MIAA Championship semifinals for the third year in a row. Head coach&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/coaches.aspx?rc=884">Tony Hobson</a>&nbsp;returns eight letterwinners from a year ago, including two starters and one all-conference performer.&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=5442">Jaden Hobbs</a>&nbsp;was named to the All-MIAA third team last year after leading the team with 12.6 points and 4.7 assists per game. Six talented true freshmen round out this year's roster and provide depth at each position on the floor. Hobson, the winningest coach in program history, enters his 13th year at the helm with a record of 260-101, good for a winning percentage of .720. Now in his 29th year as a collegiate head coach, Hobson is 673-207 overall (.765). The Tigers will play conference opponents exclusively throughout the 22-game regular season, including home-and-home matchups against nine schools and a single contest against the remaining four MIAA institutions. Fort Hays State is scheduled to open the season at home against in-state rivals Washburn and Emporia State on November 19 and 21, respectively. The Tigers will then host Kansas State in an exhibition contest on November 25 at 1 p.m. inside Gross Memorial Coliseum before returning to league play on the road in December. Fort Hays State tied for seventh in the poll with Pittsburg State, both receiving 75 points.

Northwest Missouri State, the defending MIAA regular season and tournament champion from a year ago, tops the poll unanimously with 169 points receiving all 13 first-place votes it can possibly receive. Missouri Southern received the other first place vote, ranked second at 147 points. Coaches cannot vote for their own team. Washburn, Rogers State, Missouri Western, and Central Oklahoma bridge the gap between Fort Hays State and the top two teams in the poll. (AP) — Patrick Mahomes threw for 372 yards and four touchdowns, Travis Kelce and Tyreek Hill each went over 100 yards receiving, and the Kansas City Chiefs held on to beat Carolina 33-31 on Sunday when Panthers kicker Joey Slye missed a 67-yard field-goal attempt wide right on the final play.

The Chiefs (8-1) were left clinging to the lead when Christian McCaffrey, just back from his ankle injury, scored from a yard out with 1:26 to go. The Panthers’ onside kick was recovered by Kansas City, but they used their three timeouts to get the ball back, and Teddy Bridgewater’s 23-yard pass to Curtis Samuel with 9 seconds remaining gave them hope.

Carolina (3-6) tried to get a bit closer with a pass to McCaffrey, but the incompletion brought on Slye, who had plenty of leg with the wind behind him. His kick dropped just outside the uprights, though, allowing the Chiefs to escape.

Slye also missed a 65-yard attempt late in a 27-24 loss to New Orleans in Week 7.

McCaffrey finished with 18 carries for 69 yards and a touchdown while catching 10 passes for 82 yards and another score. Bridgewater threw for 310 yards and two TDs with Samuel catching nine balls for 105 yards and the other score.

Kelce had 10 catches for 159 yards and Hill had nine for 113 and a pair of scores, helping the pass-happy Chiefs climb out of an early 14-3 hole and head into their bye with a bunch of new milestones and a big surge of momentum.

The win was the 230th for Andy Reid, breaking a tie with Hall of Fame coach Curly Lambeau for fifth most in NFL history. It was the 23rd straight game the Chiefs have scored at least 23 points, breaking their own NFL record, and Mahomes beat Hall of Famer Dan Marino’s mark for fewest games to 100 career touchdown passes. Mahomes did it in 40 games, Marino needed 44.

Panthers coach Matt Rhule said all week that McCaffrey would get a full load if he was able to take the field.

It was clear from the game’s first series that Rhule meant it.

Starting alongside Mike Jones, the Panthers’ workhorse during his six-game absence, McCaffrey carried four times and caught two passes in helping Carolina mount a 75-yard scoring drive.
