LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas forward Jalen Wilson announced that he has declared for the 2021 NBA Draft today.

“I am grateful to say that with prayer and discussion with Coach (Bill) Self and my family, I will test the NBA draft process,” said Wilson.

Wilson will retain NCAA eligibility while testing the draft process. Per NCAA rules, student-athletes can participate in the NBA draft process if withdrawn by Monday, July 19.

“I am excited for the opportunity to learn, workout, and receive valuable feedback on my game that will allow me to make a solid decision on whether to remain in the draft, or return to the University of Kansas for my sophomore year,” Wilson said. “I am ready to get to work and have put all things in God’s hands!”

Wilson, a redshirt freshman from Denton, Texas, averaged 12.1 points per game last season and led Kansas with 8.2 rebounds per contest. He appeared in 28 games with 26 starts and was named to the 2021 Big 12 All-Newcomer and Big 12 All-Freshman teams. Wilson was a unanimous choice by the league coaches for the all-freshman squad after posting eight double-doubles this season.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Shohei Ohtani can pitch at over 100 mph. He can hit over 100 mph, too.

Ohtani had three hits and three RBIs, including a double that left the bat at 119 mph and helped the Los Angeles Angels over the Kansas City Royals 10-3 Monday night.

“Did you see that?” Angels manager Joe Maddon marveled. “He’s an impressive athlete and he has lots of confidence right now.”

Ohtani is back to a two-way player this season after being limited to two pitching appearances last year in his return from Tommy John surgery, He reached 100 mph on nine pitches in his first start this season, topping at 101.1 mph with an offering to Adam Eaton of the Chicago White Sox on April 4.

His two-run double in the seventh off the Royals’ Scott Barlow gave Los Angeles a 6-3 lead. That 119 mph drive was fifth-hardest-hit ball since 2015, according to Statcast.

Ohtani added an RBI double against Jake Newberry in the ninth.

Mike Trout, following Ohtani in the batting order, hit his fourth home run of the season, a two-run drive in the ninth.

Alex Cobb (1-0) struck out 10, his high since he fanned 12 on July 29, 2014, for Tampa Bay against Milwaukee. Seven of his strikeouts came in splitters.

He allowed three runs, four hits and one walk in 5 2/3 innings.

“When things are rolling it takes you back to some of your prime days, but that’s what I’m working back to,” Cobb said. “I think my splitter has been a little better during spring but that’s the best it’s been in a game.”

Brady Singer (0-2) gave up four runs — one earned — and seven hits in five innings.

Kansas City hurt itself with three errors, including bad throws by center fielder Michael A. Taylor and by Singer.

KANSAS CITY - The Royals placed right-handed reliever Jesse Hahn on the 10-day injured list with right shoulder impingement syndrome, the club announced Monday ahead of its series opener against the Angels in Kansas City.

In a corresponding move, the Royals recalled right-hander Jake Newberry from the alternate training site.

Hahn, one of the Royals’ high-leverage relievers, felt soreness leading up to Sunday, but took advantage of the off-days last week to rest his arm. When he was warming up to enter the Royals’ 10-inning, 4-3 win over the White Sox on Sunday, Hahn felt more than soreness and was able to locate the point of pain when informing the Royals about it after pitching Sunday.

Hahn had a full examination done Monday morning in Kansas City, including X-rays that showed the impingement, but no muscle strain. He won’t throw for the next three days and will take medication to get rid of the inflammation before assessing later this week. There’s no timetable for Hahn's return, but Royals manager Mike Matheny said it will be “some time.”

CHICAGO (AP) — The Kansas City Royals could be headed for a hangover.

Michael A. Taylor scored when Garrett Crochet misplayed Andrew Benintendi’s bunt in the 10th inning, sending the Royals to a wild 4-3 victory over the Chicago White Sox on Sunday.

“That’s the kind of win ... that you hope kind of have a hangover effect,” Matheny said. “You have some that can negatively have that hangover, and this is going to be one of those with the positive.”

Taylor opened the 10th on second base and advanced on Nicky Lopez’s sacrifice. After Whit Merrifield was walked intentionally, Benintendi bunted the ball right back to the mound.

It looked as if Crochet (0-1) had time to get Taylor at the plate, but he spiked his throw and catcher Zack Collins couldn’t come up with it. It was Chicago’s second error of the day and ninth overall in the first nine games.

“The bunt hopped up on him,” White Sox manager Tony La Russa said. “If it had stayed down, you practice underhanding it, but it came up, so he had to go over the top, so it was a tough play for him.”

White Sox: SS Tim Anderson (strained left hamstring) remains on track to return this week, general manager Rick Hahn said. Anderson is eligible to come off the 10-day injured list on Thursday. ... 🏃‍♀️ FHSU's Haley breaks Hammer Throw record at Wichita State Open

The TMP-Marian Monarch track and field teams will get their
first chance to compete in more than a year on Tuesday at Ellsworth.

Two years ago the TMP girls had seven individuals and a pair
of relay teams and the boys had five individuals and two relay teams qualify
for the state track meet.

Among those returning state qualifiers are Kassidi Yost who
placed fourth in high jump as a freshman. Abby Rueschhoff qualified for state
in the triple jump and Sasha Wasinger qualified in shotput.

The Tigers fought back to tie things up at 2-2 in the fifth before erupting for 10 runs over the final two innings to seal the victory. Fort Hays State is now 5-20 on the season and 5-16 in MIAA play, while the Griffons dip to 8-19 overall and 6-15 in league action. ⚾ Tigers complete sweep of Griffons

HAYS, Kan. – Fort Hays State Softball moved to 16-14 overall and 9-3 in the MIAA with a sweep of Nebraska-Kearney at Tiger Stadium on Saturday. The Tigers held on for a 4-3 win in game one, then took game two 7-3. The Lopers fell to 10-20 overall and 1-13 in the MIAA. Game 1: Fort Hays State 4, Nebraska-Kearney 3 The Tigers did all of their offensive damage in the third inning and then held on for the one-run victory. Back-to-back bunt singles by&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=5882">Katie Adler</a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=5896">Lily Sale</a>&nbsp;triggered the Tiger rally and&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=5884">Sara Breckbill</a>&nbsp;plated the game's first run with a two-out RBI single.&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=5883">Loren Beggs</a>&nbsp;immediately followed with her team-leading third home run of the season, a 3-run shot to left center, pushing the lead to 4-0. The Lopers got runners to second and third with just one out, but Nelson dialed up a strikeout and a weak ground out to end the game. Nelson moved to 8-7 on the season with the win, allowing nine hits and three walks. She struck out five. Madison Rosenthal took the loss for UNK, throwing 5.1 innings before turning the ball over to Melissa Gellermann for the last two outs of the sixth inning. Game 2: Fort Hays State 7, Nebraska-Kearney 3 Just like the first game, the Tigers built a comfortable lead only to see it get uncomfortable late in the game. FHSU built a 5-0 lead through three innings, but a UNK 3-run home run in the sixth made things interesting late. However, the Tigers answered with a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth to get a cushion again going into the final inning. Three straight singles by&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=5882">Katie Adler</a>,&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=5896">Lily Sale</a>, and&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=5894">Grace Philop</a>&nbsp;to open the first inning produced the first run for the Tigers. The Tigers got two of the three runs back in the bottom of the inning when Espinoza laced an RBI double to the left-center gap, then Tiffany added her second RBI single of the game. Chapman avoided danger in the seventh and closed out a complete-game effort in the circle. She allowed 10 hits and five walks, while striking out eight. However, the Tigers answered with a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth to get a cushion again going into the final inning. 🏐 Tigers come up short against No. 18 Griffons

GARDEN CITY — Twice the Hays High baseball team was three outs away from a run-rule victory in game two of their doubleheader with Garden City Friday night. The Buffs rallied both times to extend the game then scored five runs in the bottom of the seventh to beat the Indians 23-22.

Hays won the first game 16-6 in five innings and is 3-1 on the season and 1-1 in the Western Athletic Conference. Garden City is 6-2 overall and 2-2 in the WAC.

Game 1: Hays 16, Garden City 6 (5 innings) The Indians scored seven runs in the top of the first and led 8-0 after an inning and a half.

The Buffs scored four in the second but the Indians quickly answered with three in the third, a run in the fourth and four in the fifth.

Dylan Dreiling, Garrett Wellbrock and Dalton Dale each had three of the Indians 15 hits. Wellbrock drove in three runs while Dale, Dalyn Schwarz and Jack Fields knocked in two.

The Indians had five extra base hits including a home run from Dreiling, triples from Dale and Dominic Bainter and a double from Wellbrock. HHS also had five stolen bases.

Starter Garrett Wellbrock allowed all six runs on six hits with five strikeouts and three walks over four innings and picked up the win.

Game 2: Garden City 23, Hays 22 Garden City scored 16 runs in the final three innings to rally from a 17-7 deficit.

The Indians had control early after scoring seven runs in the second, six in the fourth and four in the top of the fifth. They led 17-7 entering the bottom of the fifth and were three outs away from the run-rule victory but reliever Dalton Dale hit the leadoff batter who would later score on a fielders choice to short stop to extend the game.

Hays again pushed their lead to 10 on Dalton Dale's two-out double to center which scored Dylan Dreiling in the top of the sixth.

Garden City took advantage of two errors, a hit batter and two walks to score 10 runs in the bottom of the sixth to tie the game 18-18.

The Indians scored four in the top of the seventh. Garrett Wellbrock drew a walk after Dylan Dreiilng was intentianally walked to load the bases. Remington Cox singled to left scoring Jack Fields and Dreiling. Dale singled to load the bases again. Dalyn Schwarz sac fly to center scored Wellbrock to give the Indians a 22-18 lead.

A leadoff walk followed by back-to-back doubles and another walk opened the door for the Garden City rally in the bottom of the seventh. Following a strikeout for the first out, Dawson VonFeldt hit a batter with the bases loaded which pulled the Buffs within a run. A single from&nbsp; Jesse Baltazar drove in two for the game winner.

VonFeldt, the Indians fifth pitcher in the game, allowed five runs on four hits with two walks and a strikeouts and takes the loss. Sophomore Carson Spray&nbsp; made his varsity debut on the mound and allowed six runs (four earned) on seven hits with four strikeouts and three walks over 2 2/3 innings.

The Indians had 20 hits in the game, 10 of them went for extra bases including Spray's first career home run. Dale and Bainter both tripled, Dale and Remington Cox both added a pair of doubles along with VonFeldt, Wellbrock and Spray.

The Tigers never trailed in a 12-4 win in game one before rattling off 21 hits in a 13-5 win in game two, their most hits in a single game in more than eight years (2/13/13). The Tigers moved to 4-20 overall and 4-16 in MIAA play with the sweep, while the Griffons dipped to 8-18 on the year and 6-14 in conference competition. Fort Hays State will look to wrap up the series sweep with a win in game three, set for 1 p.m. Saturday afternoon (April 10). Game 1 - Fort Hays State 12, Missouri Western 4 Fort Hays State opened the weekend with a solid all-around performance in game one. The Tigers never trailed while tallying 12 hits, committing zero errors and allowing just four Griffon runs. ⚽ Tiger women fall at home to Hornets

CHICAGO (AP) — There wasn’t much doubt Lance Lynn would go back out to finish this one. Manager Tony La Russa turned to him and asked how he was feeling.

“He looked at me and said, ‘Are you good?’” Lynn said. “I said, ‘I’m gonna finish it. Does that sound good?’ He goes, ‘Sounds good.’ And that was pretty much it.”

Lynn pitched a five-hitter for the first complete game and shutout in the major leagues this season, and the Chicago White Sox beat the Kansas City Royals 6-0 on a rainy Thursday.

Yermín Mercedes kept up his scorching start with a 485-foot&nbsp;<a href="https://twitter.com/whitesox/status/1380293851416518660" target="_blank">homer</a>. Yoán Moncada&nbsp;<a href="https://twitter.com/whitesox/status/1380289615911907333" target="_blank">went deep</a>, and the White Sox gave manager Tony La Russa the win in his first home game on the South Side in 35 years.

Lynn (1-0) struck out 11 and walked none in his second shutout in 238 career starts, his first since a five-hitter against the New York Yankees on May 27, 2014.

Acquired from Texas in the offseason, Lynn threw 79 of 111 pitches for strikes in his fourth career complete game. The 33-year-old right-hander struck out the first three batters and did not allow a runner until Salvador Pérez led off the fifth with an infield single.

La Russa saw Lynn’s potential when he managed him in 2011 as a rookie with St. Louis. Lynn went on to become an innings-eating workhorse who can keep hitters off balance with a variety of pitches.

“He was really competitive,” La Russa said. “Now, what he’s added is experience. Ball does different things. He has three different fastballs. He has a nice breaking ball. He’s really just become a veteran pitcher who understands, keeps adding here, adding there so the hitters have to see different things. It’s really impressive.”

Moncada hit a two-run homer in the first, and Mercedes followed with a long shot to left-center against Brad Keller to make it 3-0. The 28-year-old rookie went 2 for 4, giving him a major league-leading 15 hits in 27 at-bats. And the White Sox came away with an easy win in a game delayed more than two hours at the start.

La Russa had not managed a home game on the South Side since a loss to the California Angels on June 11, 1986. Chicago fired him soon in a move chairman Jerry Reinsdorf regretted allowing, and the White Sox brought back the Hall of Famer in October to replace Rick Renteria, hoping he can push them to a championship.

“I could feel the excitement,” La Russa said. “The fans are looking forward to watching this club.”

Keller (0-1), coming off the shortest opening-day start in franchise history, got tagged for four runs and six hits in 3 1/3 innings after getting just four outs against Texas last week.

Lynn, meanwhile, established his fastball and overpowered Kansas City.

“It was hard sinker, hard cut, trust movement,” Royals manager Mike Matheny said. “I think that’s probably a lot like the conversation that we’ve already had with Brad. He’s got the ability to predominantly use that pitch — and use the other pitches off of it. He’s just got to trust it a little bit more like we saw the guy on the other side. He trusted it more today.”

White Sox: GM Rick Hahn said the White Sox expect star SS Tim Anderson (strained left hamstring) to return once he’s eligible to be activated from the 10-day injured list on April 15. ... The White Sox placed OF Billy Hamilton (strained left hamstring) on the 10-day injured list and selected the contract of OF Nick Williams from their training facility in Schaumburg. Hamilton was replaced in the fifth inning of Wednesday’s loss at Seattle due to tightness in his hamstring after stealing third. ... The White Sox also transferred LHP Jace Fry to the 60-day injured list. He’s recovering from a microdiscectomy to repair a herniated disk.

The White Sox will try to win their 18th straight game against a left-handed starter and tie a major league record set by Atlanta from 2004-05 when they meet Mike Minor (1-0, 6.00) on Saturday. HOLCOMB – The Thomas
More Prep-Marian baseball team picked up a couple of run-rule wins over Holcomb
Thursday. The Monarchs pull away late in a 16-0 win in the opener then strike
early in their 14-1 game two victory. The Monarchs improve to 4-0 with all four
games decided by run-rule.

Game 1: TMP-Marian 16, Holcomb 0 (6 innings) 
The Monarchs led 4-0 after three innings then put the game away with
a three-run fifth and nine-run sixth inning.

Mark Rack had
three of the Monarchs 10 hits and drove in three runs, two of them on a triple
in the sixth inning.

Jace Wentling
went 2-for-2 with two walks and scored three runs. 

Caden Morgan
drove in two runs. He also struck out 10 with one walk over five innings on the
mound for the victory.

Game 2: TMP-Marian 14, Holcomb 0 (5 innings) 
The Monarchs took control early, scoring five runs in the top of the first
inning then added two in the second, three in the third and fourth then capped
the scoring with a run in the fifth.

Jace Wentling
opened the game with a solo homer to right field. Mark Rack, Caden Morgan,
Nicholas Herrman and Bryce Conner strung together four straight hits. Morgan’s
single drove in Nick Helget who reached on a base hit earlier in the frame.
Herrman’s single knocked in Rack and Conner single scored Morgan and Herrman.

Wentling
finished with three hits, a walk, two RBIs and four runs scored. Conner
finished 3-for-3 with three RBI. Morgan drove in three runs and Chet Irvin
knocked in two.

Mark Rack
picked up the win on the mound. He allowed one run on four hits with four
strikeouts and two walks over four innings. Nicholas Herrman struck out three
to close out the game in the fifth.
