It is the second time the Tigers have been ranked atop the coaches poll during the team's DII era. The Tigers also moved up in the latest D2SIDA Media Poll, climbing two spots to sit at No. 2. Fort Hays State was fourth in the preseason coaches poll and fourth in the most recent media poll&nbsp; Fort Hays State was listed first on 14 of the 22 ballots submitted in the coaches poll this week. The Tigers totaled 522 points in the voting process, 30 more than second-ranked Lubbock Christian. FHSU grabbed two first-place votes in the latest media poll, with the Tigers sitting 17 points behind top-ranked Alaska-Anchorage. The Tigers were ranked atop two consecutive polls in December 2015 (12/8 and 12/15), going 4-1 in games as the top-ranked team in the country. KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Chris Lykes was the last player to reach Arkansas' locker room, and when he walked through the door, it set off a wild celebration that could be heard all the way back courtside.

One that probably wouldn't have been nearly so raucous if Kansas State hadn't made things nearly so tense Monday night.

Lykes was perfect from the foul line down the stretch on his way to 14 points, Connor Vanover also had 14 points and the No. 13 Razorbacks held on after blowing most of an 18-point lead to beat the Wildcats 72-64 and advance to the championship game of the Hall of Fame Classic.

“That's just my job as a guard, you know? Coach trusts us to have the ball in those situations at the end,” Lykes said, “and we have to be able to knock down those free throws. Something we do every day, routinely. It's just what is expected.”

Au'Diese Toney added 13 points, JD Notae overcame a 4-for-17 shooting night to finish with 11 and Stanley Umude had 10 for Arkansas (4-0), which advanced to play Cincinnati for the title on Tuesday night.

The Bearcats overcame an early 15-point deficit to beat No. 14 Illinois 71-51 in their semifinal game.

“It's hard to play with a big lead," Razorbacks coach Eric Musselman said, “and they did what we expected a team like K-State to do. They fought back and they scrapped. But I thought we did a good job from the 10-minute mark down utilizing clock management to the point where even if we didn't score it was going to be hard for them to overcome the lead.”

Selton Miguel led the comeback for Kansas State (2-1) with 14 points and nine rebounds, while Nijel Pack added 14 points and Markquis Nowell hit a couple late 3-pointers and finished with 10 before fouling out.

“We came out more aggressive. We took what the defense was giving us,” Pack said. “The first half we kind of overthought things, tried to make things more complicated than they were. The second half we came out more aggressive, fought back, and it was just a little too late.”

The Razorbacks led 12-4 at the first media timeout, 19-8 at the second and 28-11 by the third as the Wildcats struggled on both ends of the floor. Their only recourse against 7-foot-3 Vanover was to foul him — he went 8 for 8 from the free-throw line in the first half — and Toney and Notae provided ample scoring punch from the outside.

The lead stretched to 18 and for once it appeared Musselman would have an easy evening.

The Wildcats made him sweat in the second half.

Miguel was the instigator in the opening minutes, driving to the basket and getting a couple of shots to go high off the glass. Luke Kasubke finally ended the Wildcats' maddening 0-for-13 drought from the 3-point line, and they later scored seven straight points to cut their deficit to 53-43 with 10:25 to go.

It's not the first time the Razorbacks have had to deal with pressure.

They got off to a slow start against Mercer and trailed by one with 9:41 to play before an 18-3 run to seize control. They were tied with George Washington early before a 29-5 run put that game away. And they trailed Northern Iowa 75-72 with 4:25 remaining before they finished with a 21-5 charge.

When the Wildcats got within 60-52 on Nowell's 3 with 4:27 left, Notae answered with a driving basket at the other end. When Pack made a couple foul shots to make it 62-54, Lykes answered with two of his own. And when Pack hit a 3 to make it 66-60 with 54 seconds left, Lykes made two more free throws to put the game away.

“He’s a guy that's really confident, wants the ball late in the game,” Musselman said, “and certainly those free throws he made were crucial for us to continue to have a cushion.”

Arkansas was just 9 of 25 in the second half and 0 for 7 from beyond the 3-point stripe, and that poor shooting is why the Wildcats made a game of it. Notae in particular struggled with his shot while committing five turnovers and four fouls.

Kansas State proved the final 20 minutes that it can play with a highly ranked team. It's just that the Wildcats were so slow getting out of the break that they didn't give themselves much of a chance to actually win the game. They finished 3 of 22 from the arc with Ismael Massoud going 0 for 8 from the field and 0 for 5 from 3.

The Razorbacks will play Cincinnati for the title. Kansas State plays No. 14 Illinois for third place.

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) —&nbsp;<a href="https://twitter.com/arniestapleton/status/1462908572942090240?s=20">Tim Patrick and Courtland Sutton</a>&nbsp;ran extra routes after practice, making general manager George Paton and the assembled media sweat in the unseasonable 70-degree weather Monday.

“We're going to make you give the money back if you don't hurry up,” Paton cracked.

Patrick, who went undrafted out of Utah because of injuries and was cut three times in the NFL before catching on with the Broncos,&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/nfl-sports-business-denver-football-dddb665ce364a8b691f264e3c7da0f48">signed a three-year, $30 million deal&nbsp;</a>Saturday that included $18.5 million in guarantees.

"This is something that you could only dream of, being undrafted and starting from the bottom," Patrick said.

Sutton, who missed almost all of last season with a torn left ACL,&nbsp;<a href="https://twitter.com/Broncos/status/1462901904598454272?s=20">signed a four-year extension Monday worth $60 million&nbsp;</a>with $35 million guaranteed.

“This is amazing. This is such an honor and a privilege to be in this space," Sutton said, insisting he never doubted he'd come back from his devastating knee injury 15 months ago.

“I’ve done a lot of deals over the years, but these two feel really good just because of what they’ve been through,” said Paton, who got bear hugs from both. “They're two of our core players, important parts of what we’re building as a team and it’s a priority for us to reward and secure these types of players for the long term.”

Paton was thrilled that both receivers wanted to stay in Denver and didn't have a hankering to test free agency, where they likely would have commanded more money.

“Why would I want to leave somewhere that believes in me?" Patrick said.

“This is home,” Sutton said. “And like Tim said, Denver gave me my opportunity and getting drafted was one of the best days of my life.”

Signing Sutton and Patrick now leaves Paton with about $70 million in projected salary cap space this offseason along with 11 draft picks, including five in the top 100.

“We have the resources to do whatever we want,” Paton said. "And moving forward, we're going to have a lot of cap room, we're going to have cash. We have 11 draft picks. So, we have a lot of flexibility.

“And we just locked up two of our primary free agents.”

The Broncos' top four receivers—Patrick, Sutton, Jerry Jeudy and KJ Hamler, who's on IR with a knee injury — are under contract through 2023, a fact that could help lure a veteran quarterback to Denver in the offseason.

Paton swore that wasn't the impetus for the dual deals with Patrick and Sutton.

“No, we’re just trying to get better as a football team and win games,” Paton insisted. “These guys help us win football games, you can’t have enough weapons and now we have two really good ones. We got three with Jeudy and then some younger guys. So, we like where we are at that position.”

Sutton and Patrick are first and second, respectively, in receiving yards for the Broncos (5-5), who host the Los Angeles Chargers (6-4) on Sunday.

Sutton, Denver's second-round draft pick in 2018 out of SMU, has 43 catches for 617 yards and two TDs in his return. In his Pro Bowl season in 2019, he caught 72 passes for 1,112 yards and six TDs.

Patrick has 37 catches for 523 yards and four touchdowns this season. Over the past two years, Patrick has caught 88 passes for 1,265 yards and 10 touchdowns in 25 games with no drops and no fumbles.

“I'm just really happy for Tim. He's the type of player every team wants,” coach Vic Fangio said. “He's tough, he's competitive, he's prideful, he's all about the team. And it was great that we rewarded him for that.

“It's great for Courtland, too,” Fangio added. “Obviously, his play and his production since he's been here speaks for itself. And we think he’s going to continue to improve both as he plays more, from just experience and getting over his injury from last year.”

They cashed in not only for their production, but for the intangibles they bring, Fangio said.

“Those two guys are all about the team," Fangio said, "besides being great players.”

🏀 Etienne's big second half pushes Shockers past UNLV

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Clyde Edwards-Helaire ran for 63 yards and a touchdown in his return from injured reserve, Chris Jones and the Kansas City defense made life miserable for Dak Prescott, and the Chiefs beat the Dallas Cowboys 19-9 on Sunday.

Patrick Mahomes was 23 of 37 for 260 yards with an interception and a fumble for Kansas City, but he was bailed out by a defense that played its best game of the year. Charvarius Ward picked off Prescott in the end zone near the end of the first half, and Chris Jones had 3 1/2 sacks while forcing and recovering a fumble.

The result: The Chiefs (7-4) improved to 4-0 against the NFC East with their fourth straight win overall.

Prescott was held to 216 yards passing and two interceptions for the Cowboys, though he was missing a whole lot of help. Left tackle Tyron Smith missed his third straight game with an ankle injury, Amari Cooper tested positive for COVID-19 and fellow wide receiver CeeDee Lamb sustained a concussion just before halftime.

Ezekiel Elliott, who appeared to tweak his ankle early in the game, finished with nine carries for 32 yards. Linebacker Micah Parsons was the biggest highlight for the Cowboys (7-3), forcing a fumble and getting two more sacks.

The Chiefs have hit their stride after a rough first seven weeks that left them 3-4 and last in the AFC West. They've eliminated many of the turnovers and penalties that hamstrung their offense, and a defense that was historically inept in September and October has turned into a ferocious, ball-hawking bunch in November.

All the Cowboys managed was Greg Zuerlein's field goal and they trailed 16-3 at the break.

Zuerlein hit two more in the second half, and Harrison Butker added another field goal for Kansas City as the teams traded silly mistakes that kept them from reaching the end zone. Mahomes had a pass bounce off Kelce's hands for another interception, and the Cowboys had a promising drive go haywire after a false-start penalty.

The Chiefs' resurgent defense made sure the Cowboys never got within one possession the rest of the way.

Chiefs: Chiefs FS Tyrann Mathieu was added to the injury list as questionable about three hours before kickoff. But after working with trainer Rick Burkholder before the game, the three-time All-Pro pronounced himself ready to go. ... RB Jerick McKinnon hurt his hamstring in the first quarter. ... Fenton hurt his right knee in the fourth quarter.

MANHATTAN, Kan. (AP) — Blake Shapen was sharp in place of injured quarterback Gerry Bohanon, and Baylor's defense simply smothered Kansas State's offense, helping the No. 11 Bears beat the Wildcats 20-10 on Saturday night.

Shapen was 16 of 21 for 137 yards after Bohanon left shortly before halftime with a hamstring injury. The redshirt freshman got some help from Trestan Ebner, who ran for 86 yards and a touchdown, and Tyquan Thornton, who had five catches for 75 yards, as the Bears (9-2, 6-2 Big 12) won their fourth straight over Kansas State.

The Bears also got plenty of gifts. The Wildcats (7-4, 4-4) muffed a punt that led to the game's first points, and Chris Tennant missed a 39-yard field goal that would have made it a one-possession game with 10 minutes to go.

Sixth-year senior Skylar Thompson was just 15 of 29 for 158 yards before leaving with an injury in the fourth quarter of his final home game. Deuce Vaughn had 128 yards rushing for the Wildcats, but most of it came on a 65-yard TD run.

The game was a matchup of run-oriented teams that don't mind playing a little defense, and it took a special teams blunder — Phillip Brooks fumbling a punt — for anybody to reach the end zone. The miscue by Kansas State gave the Bears a short field, and Ebner scored a few plays later to stake them to a 7-0 lead.

It stayed that way until late in the second quarter, when Baylor converted a pair of third downs and a fourth during a 74-yard march that took 15 plays and gobbled up nearly 7 1/2 minutes. Bohanon did most of the work with his arm, so it was fitting that he capped the drive with a short toss to Drake Dabney for a 14-0 lead.

The Wildcats answered quickly when Vaughn shook loose for a 65-yard touchdown run. It came after the Bears had forced fourth-and-5 and Kansas State was punting and an offsides call on Byron Hanspard Jr. provided a free first down.

Baylor managed to add a field goal before halftime, but it came at a cost: Bohanon was scrambling out of bounds when he clutched his right hamstring. He pounded the ground with his left fist and it was clear he was done for the game.

Despite throwing just three passes all season, Bohanon's understudy was ready to go.

Baylor's defense showed up after holding Oklahoma to season lows in just about every meaningful statistical category in a 27-14 victory last week. The Bears held the Wildcats to 4 of 13 on third downs and 263 yards of total offense.

Kansas State struggled early this season when Thompson was hurt. And while the veteran played poorly under heavy pressure against Baylor, the Wildcats have proven to be better with him on the field. Jaren Lewis replaced him with a few minutes left Saturday night and threw an interception on his first pass.

🏀 #4 Tiger women withstand Aggies

FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) — Griffin Kell kicked a 25-yard field goal with 11 seconds to play as TCU fought off a Kansas fourth-quarter rally to beat the Jayhawks 31-28 on Saturday.

Kansas trailed 28-14 early in the fourth quarter before Jalon Daniels threw touchdown passes of 28 yards to Luke Grimm and 10 yards to Jared Casey, the unlikely overtime hero in the Jayhawks’ win last week at Texas that snapped a 56-game Big 12 losing streak.

Max Duggan ran for a touchdown and passed for 166 yards in his first game since October for the Horned Frogs (5-6, 3-5 Big 12). Duggan, who missed TCU’s two previous games with a foot injury, set up the score with a 42-yard sprint down the left sideline to the 2.

Kansas (2-9, 1-7 Big 12) sought to win consecutive conference games for the first time since 2008.

Casey caught a 10-yard touchdown pass lofted over the middle with 4:46 to play and the PAT tied the score at 28. Casey, the walk-on who scored last week’s winning 2-point conversion, caught three passes for 26 yards.

It was Schmidt's second appearance at the cross country national meet, improving his finish by 63 spots after leading the Tigers with a 125th-place finish in 2019. Schmidt completed the 10-kilometer race in 32:01.7. He found himself in a large pack of the 257 total runners early on, sitting in 120th place at the 1,300-meter mark. But the veteran runner worked his way through the crowd the rest of the way, moving into the top 100 by the 3K mark and up to 81st by the midway point before passing 19 more runners over the final 5,000 meters. He finished fourth among MIAA competition and eighth against central region opponents. The win was Fort Hays State's 18th-consecutive victory in a home opener and was the 46th-straight regular season, non-conference win for FHSU. The Tigers (3-0) fell behind for the first time all season when St. Cloud State (0-1) scored on the first basket of the game. The Huskies led by as many as seven before the first media timeout before leading 14-10 at the end of the first period.

Fort Hays State stormed in front by scoring the first eight points of the second quarter, including a go-ahead 3-pointer from&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=6445">Megan Earney</a>. A layup from&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=6438">Olivia Hollenbeck</a>&nbsp;capped off an 11-0 Tiger run and put FHSU in front by four before SCSU fought back to tie things up at 20 late in the frame. Included are changes to both the road gray and alternate blue uniforms, which will feature ‘KANSAS CITY’ written across the front in block letters. All four Royals uniforms will include a bolder, more pronounced stripe around the sleeve, and all uniform lettering will be solid white or solid blue, without an outline.

“We’re excited to introduce to our fans, our new uniform set for the 2022 season,” Royals Vice President/Major League Team Operations Jeff Davenport said. “These updates reflect fresh variations on our brand esthetic, that generations of Royals fans have come to identify with, while also offering newer classic looks to the overall uniform set. ⚾ Royals unveil uniform update for 2022 season

In a season where three teams shared the Western Athletic Conference football crown, it was the Hays High Indians that took the spotlight with postseason honors as voted by the league’s five coaches.

Jaren Kanak, the Indians’ big, bruising quarterback, was voted the WAC Offensive Player of the Year while his classmate and equally dominating teammate, Gavin Meyers, was honored as the WAC Defensive Player of the Year.

Pretty heady stuff for a senior class that had spent much of their high school years seeing the HHS program elevate itself into not only the league’s elite, but also making a deep run in the Class 5A playoffs before falling in the Sectional Championships after posting wins in the Week 9 Play-In and then the Regional Championship.

“It was a big adjustment at quarterback for me this year,” said Kanak, who powered his way to a WAC-best 1,224 yards rushing through nine games while tallying 18 touchdowns.&nbsp;

On the passing side of the equation, he threw for 866 yards with 12 touchdown passes against just six interceptions for a 2:1 ratio.

“Definitely I’m more of a runner than a passer, but I thought my passing did improve from my junior year,” Kanak said.&nbsp;

Upon learning of the WAC offensive award, Kanak said it was an honor but as much a reflection of the blocking he got from his offensive line.

“For the other coaches to vote for me, it’s an honor to get the award and something I’ll remember,” Kanak said. “Now that the season is over, we can reminisce all the great memories we made and all the successes we’ve had.”

This year’s Hays High team was only the third in school history to make a deep run to the Sectionals, joining teams from 1982 and 1993 in that category.

“Just knowing that all of our hard work paid off and we could be considered one of the best Hays High teams ever is a memory I’ll remember,” Kanak said.

The 6-foot-2-inch, 215-pounder will sign an NCAA Division I letter-of-intent in December’s early signing period with Clemson University in South Carolina, a member of the Atlantic Coast Conference and one of college football’s elite programs.

“I definitely wanted to elevate my game to the highest level so I’m excited about playing at Clemson,” said Kanak, who indicated he will likely be playing linebacker for the Tigers at the next level. “I think I’ve got that combination of speed and strength and have good lateral quickness. I’ve studied a lot of football so I think I have a good feel for the schematics of playing the game.”

The high-powered offense produced 374 points, averaging just more than 41 points per game while compiling an average of 324 yards rushing and 430 total yards each time out. Between his rushing and passing stats, he combined for 30 touchdowns in his senior year.

“I think one of the highlights was beating Andover in the playoffs to get to the next level of the playoffs,” Kanak said. “They (Andover) have a great program and it was a culture win for us and gave us added confidence.”

The Indians’ Meyers, meanwhile, was equally effective on the defensive side of the ball for Coach Tony Crough.

At 6-foot-2-inches and 215 pounds, he was dominating on that side of the ball. He recorded 100 tackles in the 8-game plus Week 9 play-in game schedule, including two sacks and 10 tackles for losses.

“Our season really was a success and I’m happy where we got in the playoffs,” said Meyers, who said he and his teammates would like to still be playing another week. “I think playing middle linebacker I had to be disciplined and fill in the gaps and read the guards who were trying to block.”

Meyers said the Indians would switch from a four-man to a three-man front during games, depending on situations from the other team’s offense.

“I don’t think I saw much difference in my responsibilities with either set we ran,” Meyers said. “I think moving forward is my strongest suit. I’m pretty good at lateral but it wouldn’t be the best part of my game.”

While undecided on his college of choice, Meyers hopes to decide for a Division I offer sometime later in the school year. He will be competing in wrestling for the Indians at 220 pounds.

“I think wrestling really helped my football in form tackling and staying low,” Meyers said of playing both sports. “I am not sure how football helps my wrestling, but I’m sure just staying in shape was good. It keeps me tough-minded.”

Hays and Dodge City had four players named to the WAC first-team offense while on defense the Indians topped the list with four selections.

Coach of the Year: Dodge City’s first-year coach Glenn O’Neil was voted the Coach of the Year by his peers as the Red Demons, Hays and Garden City shared the conference title with 3-1 records. Interestingly, each team beat the other and all on the road with Garden City topping Hays in Hays, the Indians taking a win at Dodge City and the Demons knocking off the Buffaloes in Garden City in the annual Hatchet Game.

By BRETT MARSHALL <a href="https://www.wacathletics.com/hays-dominates-wac-football-honors/">wacathletics.com</a>In a season where three teams shared the Western Athletic Conference football crown, it was the Hays High Indians that took the spotlight with postseason honors as voted by the league’s five coaches.Jaren Kanak, the Indians’ big, bruising quarterback, was voted the WAC Offensive Player of the Year while his classmate and equally dominating teammate, Gavin Meyers, was honored as the WAC Defensive Player of the Year.<figure>

 </figure>Pretty heady stuff for a senior class that had spent much of their high school years seeing the HHS program elevate itself into not only the league’s elite, but also making a deep run in the Class 5A playoffs before falling in the Sectional Championships after posting wins in the Week 9 Play-In and then the Regional Championship.“It was a big adjustment at quarterback for me this year,” said Kanak, who powered his way to a WAC-best 1,224 yards rushing through nine games while tallying 18 touchdowns.&nbsp;On the passing side of the equation, he threw for 866 yards with 12 touchdown passes against just six interceptions for a 2:1 ratio.“Definitely I’m more of a runner than a passer, but I thought my passing did improve from my junior year,” Kanak said.&nbsp;Upon learning of the WAC offensive award, Kanak said it was an honor but as much a reflection of the blocking he got from his offensive line.“For the other coaches to vote for me, it’s an honor to get the award and something I’ll remember,” Kanak said. “Now that the season is over, we can reminisce all the great memories we made and all the successes we’ve had.”This year’s Hays High team was only the third in school history to make a deep run to the Sectionals, joining teams from 1982 and 1993 in that category.“Just knowing that all of our hard work paid off and we could be considered one of the best Hays High teams ever is a memory I’ll remember,” Kanak said.The 6-foot-2-inch, 215-pounder will sign an NCAA Division I letter-of-intent in December’s early signing period with Clemson University in South Carolina, a member of the Atlantic Coast Conference and one of college football’s elite programs.“I definitely wanted to elevate my game to the highest level so I’m excited about playing at Clemson,” said Kanak, who indicated he will likely be playing linebacker for the Tigers at the next level. “I think I’ve got that combination of speed and strength and have good lateral quickness. I’ve studied a lot of football so I think I have a good feel for the schematics of playing the game.”The high-powered offense produced 374 points, averaging just more than 41 points per game while compiling an average of 324 yards rushing and 430 total yards each time out. Between his rushing and passing stats, he combined for 30 touchdowns in his senior year.“I think one of the highlights was beating Andover in the playoffs to get to the next level of the playoffs,” Kanak said. “They (Andover) have a great program and it was a culture win for us and gave us added confidence.”The Indians’ Meyers, meanwhile, was equally effective on the defensive side of the ball for Coach Tony Crough.<figure>

 </figure>At 6-foot-2-inches and 215 pounds, he was dominating on that side of the ball. He recorded 100 tackles in the 8-game plus Week 9 play-in game schedule, including two sacks and 10 tackles for losses.“Our season really was a success and I’m happy where we got in the playoffs,” said Meyers, who said he and his teammates would like to still be playing another week. “I think playing middle linebacker I had to be disciplined and fill in the gaps and read the guards who were trying to block.”Meyers said the Indians would switch from a four-man to a three-man front during games, depending on situations from the other team’s offense.“I don’t think I saw much difference in my responsibilities with either set we ran,” Meyers said. “I think moving forward is my strongest suit. I’m pretty good at lateral but it wouldn’t be the best part of my game.”While undecided on his college of choice, Meyers hopes to decide for a Division I offer sometime later in the school year. He will be competing in wrestling for the Indians at 220 pounds.“I think wrestling really helped my football in form tackling and staying low,” Meyers said of playing both sports. “I am not sure how football helps my wrestling, but I’m sure just staying in shape was good. It keeps me tough-minded.”Hays and Dodge City had four players named to the WAC first-team offense while on defense the Indians topped the list with four selections.Coach of the Year: Dodge City’s first-year coach Glenn O’Neil was voted the Coach of the Year by his peers as the Red Demons, Hays and Garden City shared the conference title with 3-1 records. LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) — Bill Self knew that Ochai Agbaji was within one point of 1,000 for his career, so the Kansas coach reminded his star player of the milestone in the gentlest way possible during a late timeout against Stony Brook.

Just being assertive and consistent every night.”David McCormack added 12 points and eight rebounds, and Christian Braun and Zach Clemence scored 11 apiece for the Jayhawks (3-0), who only led by six at halftime before heating up from beyond the arc. They were 2 of 10 in the first half but hit seven of their first nine 3s in the second, finishing 50% from the field for the game.“I thought we guarded better the second half,” Self said, “but their guards walked into way too many shots. I thought guarding their actions we did fine; guarding their players we didn't do a very good job.”Tykei Greene had 11 points and nine rebounds to lead the transfer-heavy Seawolves (0-2), who hadn't played in nine days since their season-opening loss to George Mason.For long stretches of the first 20 minutes, Stony Brook seemed to be making every shot it took, particularly those that the small school from Long Island hoisted from beyond the 3-point arc.They led by seven early and continued to keep the Jayhawks at bay through most of the first half.It wasn't until McCormack checked back in with about 6 minutes to go that Kansas finally went on a run. His bucket was followed by one from Agbaji, then the 6-foot-10 forward followed a miss by Agbaji with another hoop before Dajuan Harris Jr. picked the pocket of Jahlil Jenkins and cruised in for a layup that forced Stony Brook to call timeout.Still, the Jayhawks led just 38-32 at halftime.Agbaji had 10 points in the first half, then 10 in the first 3 1/2 minutes of the second: two 3s, an easy bucket and a dunk in four trips down floor. On the fifth, Agbaji merely assisted on McCormack's basket as the lead stretched to 52-40.It eventually surpassed the 20-point mark when Agbaji converted a circus-style three-point play with about 10 minutes to go, allowing the Jayhawks to coast the rest of the way to their 21st straight nonconference win at home.“I don't know that I envisioned (Agbaji) leading the country in scoring, which I think he is,” Self said, “but he's prepared to have a good start to the year. He's playing with confidence. I think that first game did probably wonders for his confidence and he's playing well. He's not forcing anything and playing within himself, and he's very efficient.”INJURY NEWSJayhawks guard Remy Martin tweaked his back a few days ago, Self said, but tried to play through it. Martin missed his only two shots with four rebounds and two assists in 18 scoreless minutes. “He'll be fine,” Self said.THE TAKEAWAYStony Brook is going to give fits to the rest of the America East, which it was predicted to win for the first time since the 2015-16 season. The Seawolves have enough size to deal with bigger teams, plenty of scoring punch on the perimeter and, perhaps most importantly, weren't awed by their first trip to Allen Fieldhouse.Kansas showcased remarkable depth against the Seawolves, and that should only increase when Jalen Wilson returns next week. He's been suspended the first three games after he was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving. Wilson declared for the NBA draft after last season before returning for his sophomore season.UP NEXTStony Brook returns home to play Sacred Heart on Monday night.Kansas plays North Texas to open the ESPN Events Invitational next Thursday.
