The TMP-Marian boys golf team finished eighth as a team at
Sugar Hills Golf Club in Goodland Tuesday, in their first tournament of the season.

The Monarchs were led by Heuer Brungardt, finishing in a tie
for sixth with a 15-over 86.

He was nine shots back of the winner Eli Jones from Norton
who fired a six-over 77.&nbsp;

Ellis’ Austin Carroll also turned in a sixth-place finish at
86.

The Monarchs finished with a team score of 399. 

Goodland won the team title with a total of 345. Followed by
Colby (358) and Norton (362)

Ellis was sixth with a team total of 396.

Griffin Schumacher was T41st (101), Evan Balthazor finished T49th
(105), Eli Stein finished T60th (107), Peyton Schwartz was T75th
(112) and Henry Meitner placed 96th (127).

MAYETTA, Kan. – The Fort Hays State men's golf team secured fifth place on Tuesday at the Firekeeper Open. The Tiger golfers had an exhilarating weekend, triumphing over three nationally ranked teams in the tournament. The competition unfolded at the Firekeeper Golf Course, a par-72 course spanning 7,030 yards.

The Tigers finished 3-over par with a total of 867 strokes over three rounds. Fort Hays State demonstrated exceptional prowess in the final round, clinching the best round score of the day at 277. This remarkable score stands as the lowest in modern team history. The team amassed 45 birdies and 165 pars, ranking third in the tournament for pars. They also boasted the best stroke average on par 3's, at 3.08.

The Tigers closed with three golfers in the top 20, including Cooper Scheck&nbsp;(T17th), Jackson Rader&nbsp;(T19th), and Tanner Copeland&nbsp;(T19th). Scheck's standout performance came in the third round, finishing 1-under par with six birdies. He posted rounds of 73, 74, and 68, tying for second with 38 pars during the tournament. Scheck and Copeland boasted a par 3 stroke average of 2.83, ranking them third in the tournament.

Senior Copeland marked his 100th round as a Tiger golfer, culminating with a career-low round of 69. Copeland shot rounds of 75, 72, and 69, leading the team with 11 birdies. Rader also delivered a top-20 performance, tied with Copeland. He posted scores of 73 and 76 before shooting a 67 in round three. Rader's round three score of 67 marks the best since Maddux Miles in 2010. He birdied six times during the round, ending the tournament with 11 birdies, equaling Copeland's count. Rader boasted the best par 4 score on the team at 3.97, trailing the leader by just 0.20.

Cole Streck&nbsp;tied for 31st place, recording rounds of 74, 73, and 73. Streck excelled in the second and third rounds, securing six birdies and going 2-over par in those two rounds. Streck concluded with eight birdies and 36 pars, going 4-over par in the two-day tournament. His 36 pars tie for the seventh most in the tournament and the second most on the team.

Jacob George&nbsp;tied for 76th place, finishing 19-over par. George posted rounds of 79, 74, and 82, concluding the tournament with five birdies. Copeland shone in the third round, going just 5-over par while securing a pair of birdies. Parker Krob&nbsp;tied for 81st, shooting 10-over par. Krob exhibited a commendable performance in the last round, achieving an even score on the back nine and finishing 6-over par for the round. Krob recorded round scores of 79, 82, and 78.

Alex Gentry of Central Missouri clinched the individual title after shooting 13-under par, four strokes ahead of the next spot on the leaderboard. Gentry commenced the tournament with a stellar round of 66, followed by scores of 68 and 69 to finish strong. Central Missouri secured the team victory, with two Mules finishing in the top five. The Mules concluded the tournament at 19-under par, with rounds of 281, 278, and 286.

The team will look to the MIAA Championships in Kansas City, Mo. Action is set to begin Monday and conclude Wednesday (April 17).&nbsp;&nbsp;

⛳ Tiger men finish fifth, three individuals in top 20 at Firekeeper Open

&nbsp;"A complete player." That is how Hays High soccer coach Daniel Kelly described senior Brantlee Staab on Tuesday. Kelly spoke about Staab who had just signed to play soccer at Southwestern College in Winfield, Kansas.

Kelly wasn't just referring to Staab's statistical leadership. Staab was a leader of the team as well as on the stat sheet. He tied for the team lead in goals (10) and assists (7) for the 10-7-1 Indians. A season where he missed four games due to an injury.

Staab was a captain this past fall but helped lead the team as a freshman and sophomore when the team struggled in the final results.&nbsp;

Kelly mentioned that Staab stepped up to show the rest of the team what it takes to play at a high level and that led to more success in the recent seasons.&nbsp;

As for Staab, he fell in love with the game at a young age. He was the first in his family to take on the sport and enjoyed the fast paced action of the sport and the running aspect.

It's not just a three month season for Staab. Twice a week he travels to Wichita to practice and then plays most weekends in Kansas City. He also takes part in 3v3 and 4v4 events as well.

Staab is a three-time Western Athletic Conference first team selection.

One of the things that Staab is looking forward to from the academic side of things is coaching. He currently coaches in Hays at the youth level. To the young players he says "Hard work and dedication. You can't make it as far as the pros if you don't have hard work and dedication."

Take one guess who finished off a romp through college basketball again. You bet, it’s UConn — a team built to win now, and often, and by a lot every time it takes the court.

Coach Dan Hurley's Huskies delivered the latest of their suffocating hoops performances Monday night, smothering Purdue for a 75-60 victory to become the first team since 2007 to capture back-to-back national championships.

Tristen Newton&nbsp;<a href="https://twitter.com/MarchMadnessMBB/status/1777529515146727550">scored 20 points</a>&nbsp;for the Huskies, who won their 12th straight March Madness game — not a single one of them decided by fewer than 13 points.

UConn was efficient on offense but won this with defense. The Huskies (37-3) limited the country’s second-best 3-point shooting team to a mere seven shots behind the arc and only a single make, while happily allowing 7-foot-4 AP Player of the Year Zach Edey to go for 37 points on 25 shot attempts.

<a href="https://twitter.com/CBSSports/status/1777541833658187900">UConn won its sixth overall title</a>&nbsp;and joined the 2006-07 Florida Gators and the 1991-92 Duke Blue Devils as just the third team to repeat since John Wooden’s UCLA dynasty of the 1960s and ’70s.

“I just think it’s the best two-year run in a very, very long time, just because of everything we lost from last year’s team,” said Hurley, whose top two scorers from last year now play in the NBA. “To lose that much and do it again, it’s got to be as impressive a two-year run since at least prior to Duke.”

The 2024 Huskies are the sixth team to win all six tournament games by double-digit margins. They won those games by a grand total of 140 points, blowing past the 1996 Kentucky team, which won its six by 129.

In a matchup of two top seeds, they wore down the Boilermakers (34-5), who made it this far a year after becoming just the second No. 1 in the history of March Madness to fall in the first round. But Purdue left the same way it came — still looking for the program’s first NCAA title.

So much for the free-for-all this new age of the transfer portal and name, image and likeness deals was supposed to become. UConn has figured out how to dominate and replenish its roster with players who understand their roles.

Cam Spencer, a transfer from Rutgers, Stephon Castle, a blue-chip freshman, and Alex Karaban, a sophomore from last year’s team, spent the night guarding the 3-point line and making life miserable for Purdue’s guards.

“They just made a decision — we can defend the perimeter, and we can take this away from you, you’re going to get the ball to your best player, he’ll be 1-on-1, and that’s that,” Purdue coach Matt Painter said.

This was only the second time this season Purdue didn’t put up 10 3-point attempts, and how ’bout this final score: Edey 37, the rest of the Boilermakers 23.

How serious was Hurley about defending the perimeter? When Braden Smith wiggled loose for a semi-open look to make Purdue’s first 3 of the game with 2:17 left in the first half, the coach bolted onto the floor and called timeout.

“Coaches made a point that we’d be really locked in if we controlled their 3-point attempts,” Spencer said. “Holding them to seven shows we were locked in on making sure their guards didn’t get involved in the game.”

With his Xs-and-Os masterpiece, Hurley joins former Florida coach Billy Donovan in the back-to-back club, and is in company with Bill Self and Rick Pitino as only the third active coach with two championships. News broke over the weekend that&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/kentucky-calipari-arkansas-570669b80b59b362ab2d75d83246f36b">it appears there's a job opening at Kentucky</a>, and the UConn coach's name has come up there.

“I don't think that's a concern,” Hurley said. “My wife, you should have her answer that.”

No way the Huskies would want to lose him.

Hurley earned every penny in this one. In the first half, he begged with, swore at and generally berated the refs about over-the-backs, elbows and hip checks that weren’t called.

Once, when that didn’t work after Edey set a hard (and probably legal) pick against Castle, Hurley started in on Edey himself as the center walked toward the Purdue bench for a timeout.

But the coach’s best work came in whatever hotel room he used to draw up the game plan.

“The whole game plan was no Smith, no Loyer, no Jones, no Gillis,” Hurley said, as he ticked off the last names of the Purdue guards. “We knew if we keep them below 18, 20 points as a group, and they had no chance to win, no matter how well Zach played.”

It's no slight on Edey, who battled gamely, finishing with 10 rebounds to record his 30th double-double of the season. But this game proved the number crunchers and analytics experts right. UConn let Edey back in and back down all night on 7-2 Donovan Clingan, giving up difficult 2s in the post in exchange for any 3s.

“They only doubled late in the second half, but by that point we had dug ourselves too deep of a hole,” Fletcher Loyer said.

The defensive dominance put the finishing touch on a tournament in which UConn's average margin of victory was 23.3 points. Sure, Hurley might have to replace two or three of these players, but the coach said he'll worry about that in a week or two.

🏀 UConn runs to its 2nd straight NCAA title, beating Zach Edey and Purdue

team bounced back from a shutout loss in Manhattan Saturday with a 3-0 shutout win in Junction City Monday. 

The Indians are now 5-3 on the year. They are back at home Thursday against Trinity Academy.

⚽ HHS girls shutouts Junction City

HAYS - The Hays High boys tennis team finished first and third respectively at their own invitational tournament Monday. The Hays-Gold team had three first place finishes and won the team title with 26 points, six ahead of second place Salina South. The Hays-Maroon squad had three second place finishes and placed third with 16 points.&nbsp;

Colin Clark went 3-0 to win No. 1 Singles for the HHS-Gold. Both of the Gold Doubles team went 3-0. The No. 1 team of&nbsp;Xavier Catura and Kale Schwien and the No. 2 team of&nbsp;Preston Parr and Mason Schleicher both finished first. Conner Miller went 1-2 and place fifth at No. 2 Singles.

Kaiden Bunger went 2-1 at No. 1 Singles and placed second. Both of the Maroon Doubles teams went 2-1 and finished second. Henry Fitzthum and Carsen Riat were the No. 1 team and the No. 2 team consisted of Leo Hernandez and Corbin Luck.

Hays PostHAYS - The Hays High boys tennis team finished first and third respectively at their own invitational tournament Monday. The Hays-Gold team had three first place finishes and won the team title with 26 points, six ahead of second place Salina South. The Hays-Maroon squad had three second place finishes and placed third with 16 points.&nbsp;Colin Clark went 3-0 to win No. 1 Singles for the HHS-Gold. Both of the Gold Doubles team went 3-0. The No. 1 team of&nbsp;Xavier Catura and Kale Schwien and the No. 2 team of&nbsp;Preston Parr and Mason Schleicher both finished first. Conner Miller went 1-2 and place fifth at No. 2 Singles.Kaiden Bunger went 2-1 at No. 1 Singles and placed second. Both of the Maroon Doubles teams went 2-1 and finished second. With a 6-2 start to the season the TMP-Marian Monarchs
baseball team broke into the top-10 of the 2-1A Kansas Association of Baseball
Coaches rankings this week.

The Monarchs opened the season with a split doubleheader
with Larned and then earned back-to-back doubleheader sweeps of Colby and
Holcomb before splitting two games with Ellinwood last week.

TMP joins Sacred Heart in the 2-1A rankings this week. The
Knights moved up one spot to number two with a 6-0 record. TMP and Sacred Heart
are both in the 2-1A Hays-TMP regional.

In class 5A the Hays High Indians are ranked No. 8 this week
thanks to a 7-1 start.

Last week the Indians swept Garden City and split two games
with Washburn Rural. They opened the season with seven straight wins before
that.

HAYS, Kan. – Fort Hays State Football will hold its annual Spring Scrimmage on Saturday, April 20 at Lewis Field Stadium in Hays. The scrimmage is set to begin at 10 a.m. Admission is&nbsp;FREE&nbsp;for all.

🏈 FHSU Spring Scrimmage set for Saturday, April 20

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — MJ Melendez hit his third home run of the series, a two-run drive in a three-run seventh inning as the Kansas City Royals rallied to beat Chicago White Sox 5-3 on Sunday for a four-game sweep.

“The way these all four of these games transpired — they were all close in the middle to late part of the game,” Kansas City manager Matt Quatraro said. “To stick with it is really cool to see."

Chicago started 1-9 for just the second time in the 124-year history of the franchise after going 0-10 in 1968.

“We had a lot of opportunities to score,” White Sox manager Pedro Grifol aid, “and we didn’t capitalize with the big hit. We should have brought that game home.”

Chicago ended a 19-inning scoreless streak in the fourth and led 3-0 in the fifth before Hunter Renroe's two-run homer off starter Garrett Crochet.

Melendez hit a two-run homer in the sixth off Deivi García (0-2) for a 4-3 lead, his third go-ahead hit of the series. Melendez flipped his bat in triumph.

He had a go-ahead, eight-inning single on Friday and a tiebreaking, seventh-inning homer on Saturday.

“Obviously, a little bit of luck right there," Melendez said. "I’m just thankful that I’m able to help do something to help the team win. It’s just pretty crazy.”

Kansas City added a run when Kyle Isbel reached on what was scored on an infield hit when reliever Dominic Leone failed to catch the throw to first from second baseman Lenyn Sosa.

John Schreiber (1-0) pitched a one-hit seventh and James McArthur got three outs for his second save as Kansas City completed its first four-game sweep since 2021.

Dominic Fletcher hit an RBI double in the fourth off Alec Marsh and scored on Braden Shewmake’s sacrifice fly, just the third multi-run inning of the season for the White Sox.

HAYS, Kan. - The Fort Hays State Tiger baseball team picked up a 13-4 win against the Bearcats of Northwest Missouri State on Sunday. Fort Hays State improved to 21-16 on the year and 9-14 in MIAA play, while the Bearcats fell to 17-20 overall and also 9-14 in conference action.

Freshman Rafael Espinoza&nbsp;took the mound as the starting pitcher and immediately set the tone for the game with his exceptional command. Espinoza shut down the Bearcat offense early, holding them scoreless through three innings.

Fort Hays State scored first on a Zane Knox&nbsp;sacrifice fly in the first inning. The bottom half of the third was successful for the Tiger bats, scoring four runs on five hits. Cesar Saavedra&nbsp;scored first in the inning from a ground rule double by Isaiah Ural. Trey DeGarmo&nbsp;lifted a ball over the fence later in the inning, adding three more to the run tally putting the Tigers up 5-0.

After the Bearcats scored two in the top half of the fourth, the Tigers scored three on three hits in the bottom half. Saavedra scored on a Brady Kreutzer&nbsp;double to left, then Kreutzer and Elliott Herrmann&nbsp;scored on a single by Knox. The Tigers led 8-2 after four.

Northwest Missouri's Jacob Selock hit a solo homer to begin the top of the fifth, marking his third homer in the series, and the Bearcats added another run in the sixth to make it 8-4.

The bottom half of the sixth saw the Tigers add on, scoring five more on six hits. After back-to-back singles by Ural and Herrmann, Kreutzer crushed a ball to left center for a three-run home run. The next batter, Knox, blasted a solo shot to center field for back-to-back homers. A Sebastian Burgon&nbsp;double down the left field line scored Luis Ayala, who doubled the at bat before, making the score the eventual final of 13-4.

Espinoza went all nine innings allowing just four earned runs on seven hits, striking out six batters. It marked Espinoza's second complete game in a row and of the season. He improved to 4-1 on the year.

Every Tiger starter tallied a hit on the day, going for 17 total hits. Ural, Kreutzer and DeGarmo had three hits each, while Herrmann and Knox finished with a pair of hits. Kreutzer and Knox finished the day with four runs batted in, while DeGarmo had three.

Fort Hays State will travel to Wichita, Kan. for the rubber match of the season series against Newman on Tuesday, then head east to Topeka to face Washburn in a three-game series next weekend.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Nick Anderson allowed one hit in the eighth and Chris Stratton completed the three-hitter for his first save since July 19 last year with St. Louis.

HAYS, Kan. - The Fort Hays State baseball team fell to Northwest Missouri State on a blustery Saturday afternoon at Larks Park, 11-3. The Bearcats are now 17-19 overall and 9-13 in MIAA play with the win, while the Tigers move to 20-16 on the year and 8-14 in league action.

Both sides had baserunners in all nine innings, with Northwest managing to push runs across in five separate innings and the Tigers only doing so once.

Tiger starter Cade Flaherty&nbsp;allowed one run in the top of the first, but worked out of a jam to leave the bases loaded with his second strikeout of the game. The Bearcats added three runs in the second, but again left the bases loaded when Dylan Rinker&nbsp;came on to record the final out.

The Tigers recorded base hits in each of the first three innings before working walks in the fourth and fifth innings, but FHSU was unable to move a runner past second base against Bearcat starter Casey Stalzer. The righty finished the game with 13 strikeouts in 7 scoreless innings of work, including eight called third strikes.

Rinker posted three-consecutive scoreless innings in the third, fourth and fifth innings before a pair of walks came around to score in the top of the sixth. Rinker allowed one more run in the seventh before Landyn Sterling&nbsp;came on to record the final two outs of the inning via strikeout.

The Bearcats then scored four runs in the top of the eighth before the Tigers got on the board in the home half of the inning. Isaiah Ural&nbsp;led off with a single before Trey DeGarmo drove in FHSU's first run of the game with a double down the left-field line. Jose Cintron&nbsp;followed with a pinch-hit triple to right, driving in DeGarmo, before Cintron scored on a groundout from Kyle Morrell.

Andrew Hansen came on to work a scoreless ninth inning, but the Tigers were unable to add any more runs in the bottom of the inning after stranding a pair of baserunners.

Flaherty (2-5) took the loss after allowing four runs on seven hits and three walks across 1 2/3 innings of work. Rinker allowed three runs on four hits and two walks in 4 2/3 innings of relief.

Ural finished the game 2-for-4 with one run, with six other Tigers recording one base hit each.

The Tigers and Bearcats will wrap up the series Sunday&nbsp; beginning at noon at Larks Park.

PITTSBURG, Kan. – &nbsp;Tiger Track &amp; Field hit the road to Pittsburg, Kan. for the 16th Annual David Seunram Gorilla Classic Saturday. The Tigers came back to Hays with two champions and six provisional marks (three men, three women) on the weekend.

The men's pole vault saw Jacob Clark&nbsp;vault to victory, claiming the top spot with a remarkable clearance of 17 feet, 3 inches. His exceptional performance tied his personal best and notched a national mark. Brady Deges&nbsp;finished sixth, improving his provisional mark, vaulting 16 feet, 3.25 inches.

Adding to the men's success, Keomonie Archie&nbsp;dominated the long jump, securing the win with an impressive leap of 24 feet, 3.5 inches. The men's high jump saw Dayton Williams&nbsp;take sixth with a jump of 6 feet, 6.25 inches.

In the women's javelin throw, Addie Berens&nbsp;(147 feet, 1 inch) and Rhyann Brown&nbsp;(143 feet) delivered strong performances, securing the second and third positions. Their outstanding throws not only secured podium finishes, but also provisional marks. Patrish Doll's commendable performance earned her the fifth position and provisional mark at 140 feet, 11 inches.

The women's pole vault event showcased a fourth-place performance from Annabeth Baalmann&nbsp;at 12 feet. Jayme Hagerman&nbsp;secured the 6th position in the triple jump with a leap of 36 feet, 7.5 inches.

Noah Morenz&nbsp;placed second in the 3,000m steeplechase, his first time competing in the outdoor event with a time of 9:47.89.

Tiger Track &amp; Field will head to the west coast for the Pacific Coast Intercollegiate in Long Beach, Calif. after traveling to Pittsburg, Kan. Fort Hays State will also send athletes to the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa, Calif.&nbsp; &nbsp;

Shreethika Vangala&nbsp;was the only Tiger to win a match on the day, taking the No. 1 singles matchup. After falling in the first set 6-1, Vangala rallied for a 6-3 second set win and completed the comeback with a 10-7 win in the tiebreaker set over Alisha Moldakhmetova.

Irina Alfonso&nbsp;nearly gave the Tigers another singles win at the No. 2 position, but fell in a decisive tiebreaking set. She took the first set 6-4 before falling in the second set by the same count. Sandra Mari Marti, ranked No. 17 in the region, took the tiebreaker 10-4. Yone Pereiro&nbsp;(No. 3) and Fiorella Mendez&nbsp;(No. 5) each took two games in each of their singles sets. KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — MJ Melendez broke an eighth-inning tie with a single to help the Kansas City Royals beat the Chicago White Sox 2-1 on Friday night.

With one out, Melendez hit a soft liner to left off Michael Kopech (0-1) to score pinch-runner Dairon Blanco.

Chris Stratton (1-0) worked a scoreless eighth for the victory, and James McArthur got a game-ending double-play grounder for his first save.

The Royals jumped opened the scoring in the first inning on the first of Salvador Pérez’s three hits, a two-out RBI double off the wall in center. Pérez is tied for the American League lead with nine RBIs.

Gavin Sheets tied it with a leadoff homer in the second, lifting starter Brady Singer’s slider 391 feet down the line in right.

After the homer, Singer retired the next 15 hitters consecutively on 48 pitches, striking out four and getting nine ground balls. He faced two more than the minimum in completing 6 1/3 innings, while allowing a run on two hits and one walk with four strikeouts. Royals starters lead the majors with seven quality starts.

White Sox starter Erick Fedde worked five innings, allowing a run on six hits and two walks, with four strikeouts. He exited after allowing a leadoff hit to Pérez and a walk to Melendez.

Reliever John Brebbia retired the next two batters, leaving after injuring his right calf while fielding a soft grounder. Steven Wilson struck out Hunter Renfroe to end the threat, stranding a runner at third.

White Sox OF Eloy Jiménez was placed on the 10-day injured list retroactive to April 2 with a left adductor strain.

The White Sox selected the contract of OF Robbie Grossman from Triple-A Charlotte and designated RHP Alex Speas for assignment.

Katie Linenberger took first in the high jump at 5'4" winning in a tie breaker over Bishop Carroll's Kristina Mount. The Indians placed four in the long jump. Lilian McGrath won the event at 17'3". Kamryn McCall was fourth, Lynsi Kanak seventh and Adalie Kippes eighth.

Brooke Bieker was runner-up in the triple jump. Rylen Harrington also took home silver in the javelin throw.

Hays High hosted Garden City on a windy Friday on the newly named Leo-Harper Field. The baseball facility recently underwent a major face lift in the off season. The entire field was turfed, new nets were installed behind home plate and new bleachers were installed among other upgrades.

The USD 489 Board approved the revamp in 2023.&nbsp;

Prior to the doubleheader the field was named for long time head coach Frank Leo and assistant Keith Harper. Those two were solely responsible for the original complex being built along with several members in the community. They coached at Hays High from 1981 to 2019.&nbsp;

Ian McGuire tripled in two runs in the bottom of the second inning to give Hays a lead they would not give up on the way to a 12-2 run rule victory.

Hays trailed 1-0 after the first inning on a single and an error that left Garden City leading by one. The Indians did their damage in the bottom of the second with two outs. Dylan Haselhorst singled then Tanner Boxberger was hit by a pitch. McGuire hit a triple over the head of the right fielder that drove in courtesy runner Brett Schumacher and Boxberger for a 2-1 advantage.

Cooper Sanders added to the lead with an single to score McGuire.

Hays added two more runs in the fourth on an inside the park home run by Johnny Cano that also scored Lex Lummus who doubled prior to Cano's hit.

The Indians stretched out their lead to 9-2 after four innings with runs from Tiger Johnson, Lummus, Cano and Schumacher.&nbsp;

Hays ended the game in the bottom of the sixth with three runs for a run-rule 12-2 victory.

Nolan Dreher pitched four innings of two run ball for his second victory of the season. Boxberger threw two innings of no hit ball to finish the game.

Hays scored all nine of their runs in the bottom of the sixth to complete the sweep of Garden City with a 9-3 victory.

Hays High's Carter Graham was locked in a pitching duel with Garden City's Evan Finch through five innings. Hays turned two double plays in the first four innings to keep the Buffaloes off the board. Garden City threw out a runner at the plate to keep the game scoreless in the bottom of the second.

The Buffaloes finally broke the scoreless tie with a single run in the fifth. Graham left the game before the sixth, allowing just the one run.

Ian McGuire pitched a perfect sixth inning to set up Hays for the comeback in the bottom of the sixth.

Jack Weimer and Tiger Johnson opened the inning with back to back singles. Lex Lummus moved the runners with a sacrifice bunt. The Indians used a squeeze play on a Johnny Cano bunt that scored Weimer who slid in under the catcher's tag for a 1-1 tie. Hays produced two more bunts with McGuire and Dylan Haselhorst each reaching safely. McGuire's bunt gave Hays a one run lead.

The Indians continued to play small ball with infield hits, taking walks and being hit by a pitch. Lummus doubled in a pair of runs to cap the nine run inning.

McGuire allowed two runs in the top of the ninth before nailing down his second victory of the season.&nbsp;

Hays improves to 7-1 on the season and 4-0 in the Western Athletic Conference. Garden City has dropped three games in a row and is 4-3, 0-3.

The Indians host Great Bend on Tuesday in a key conference double header.
