The 18-ranked Fort Hays State men's basketball team takes a 19-5 overall record and 14-4 mark in conference play into its final regular season road game on Saturday. The Tigers take on Central Missouri in Warrensburg with tipoff set for 3 p.m. inside the Jerry Hughes Athletics Center. UCM enters the game at 11-12 overall and 6-11 in the MIAA.

Fort Hays State enters the contest on a three-game win streak. The Tigers' most recent win came Thursday night by a score of 60-41 at Lincoln in Jefferson City, Mo. The Tigers held Lincoln to just 26.1 percent shooting from the field overall and 7.1 percent shooting beyond the 3-point arc, both being season lows for an FHSU opponent.&nbsp; FHSU started its current winning streak with home wins over Newman and Central Oklahoma.

Central Missouri snapped a four-game losing string on Thursday night with a win at home over Nebraska-Kearney. It also snapped a two-game slide at home by the Mules. The Mules have a break-even scoring margin, scoring 63.6 points per game while allowing the same amount per game.

Fort Hays State owns a six-game win streak in the series with Central Missouri, which goes back to the 2020-21 season. FHSU has won the last two meetings with UCM in Warrensburg. FHSU allowed less than 60 points to UCM in all six of the games during its current win streak in the series between the teams. The Tigers took the first meeting between the teams this season in Hays by a score of 61-51.

Kaleb Hammeke&nbsp;led the Tigers in scoring on Thursday night at Lincoln with 16. He leads the team in scoring, rebounding, and assists. Hammeke averages 14.4 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 4.1 assists per game. He led the Tigers in scoring with 17 points in the first meeting with UCM this season.

Central Missouri has four players averaging double figures in scoring, led by Jalen Knott at 11.5 per game.&nbsp;&nbsp;

The Fort Hays State women's basketball team plays its final road game of the regular season Saturday afternoon at Central Missouri. Tipoff between the Tigers (19-5, 13-5 MIAA) and Jennies (17-6, 11-6 MIAA) is set for 1 p.m. from the Jerry Hughes Athletics Center in Warrensburg, Mo.

The Tigers and Jennies are locked in a tight battle atop the MIAA standings, with six teams separated by three games in the loss column with three weeks left to play in the regular season. Fort Hays State is currently in third place, two games back of league-leading Missouri Western, while Central Missouri sits in sixth, 3.5 games back.

Fort Hays State fell behind by as many as 17 in the fourth quarter of the first meeting between these teams this season (1/4/24) before rallying within two possessions with three minutes to play. Central Missouri regained control down the stretch, ultimately winning by seven, 72-65. Katie Wagner&nbsp;led the Tigers with 24 points and 16 rebounds in that game, her second-straight game with at least 20 points against the Jennies.

Wagner has scored in double figures seven times in eight tries against the Jennies, averaging 15.8 points, 7.4 rebounds and 3.4 assists in those games. Five other Tigers have scored in double figures at least once in their career against UCM, including four-such performances from Jessie Sallach, two from Sydney Golladay&nbsp;and one each from Olivia Hollenbeck, Brooke Loewe&nbsp;and Emma Ruddle.

Wagner continues to rewrite the record books at Fort Hays State, moving into fifth all-time in scoring on Thursday with a career total of 1,566 points. She also ranks fourth in school history in rebounds with 884, 17 shy of tying for third.

Hollenbeck is averaging 17.5 points per game over the last four outings, including a career-high 30 points against Newman.

Kate Dilsaver&nbsp;matched her season-high in numerous categories Thursday, totaling 13 points, five rebounds and three assists in a win over Lincoln. She's scored in double figures twice over the last five games after doing so just once across the first 19 games of the year.

Central Missouri leads the all-time series, 23-17, including wins in each of the last four meetings. Fort Hays State's last win came almost exactly two years ago in Warrensburg (60-54, 2/19/22). The Jennies are 12-5 in games played in Warrensburg. UCM won the first game in the series during the Talia Kahrs&nbsp;era last month in Hays, 72-65 (1/4/24).

The Jennies moved to 6-4 at home this season after holding on to defeat Nebraska-Kearney 81-77 Thursday night after a potential game-tying shot from the Lopers bounced out with less than five seconds remaining. UCM ranks third in the conference and 18th nationally in field-goal percentage (45.4 percent). They are also third in the league in scoring offense, averaging 74.6 points per game. Brooke Littrell leads the conference and ranks 20th in Division II with an average of 19.1 points per game. She also leads the team with 8.7 rebounds per night, fourth-most in the league.&nbsp;&nbsp;

(Feb. 16), securing four first-place finishes and attaining seven provisional
marks. The day was highlighted by remarkable achievements, including new school
records set by pole vaulter Annabeth Baalmann and sprinters Hayden Albright and
Reba Mader.

The men's 60m dash was a lightning-fast affair, with Eddie
McVay narrowly missing the podium crossing the line in 6.91 seconds but
achieving a personal best in the process. Toby Wahlmeier followed closely
behind in 6.95, also notching a personal best. Kenny Fritsch blazed through the
track in 7.01, securing the eighth spot and a personal best, while Carter
Cellmer and Chason VanDerWege gave it their all, finishing in 7.16 and 7.23. In
the women's 60m dash, Tori Poe surged forward with power and grace, claiming
fifth place in 7.87, her fastest time of the season. Jayme Hagerman showcased
her speed, crossing the line in 8.14 seconds, securing the sixth spot and a
personal best. Nolan Churchman dominated the men's 60m hurdles, storming to
victory in 8.72, leaving his competitors in his wake. Taylor Savolt led the

Moving on to the longer sprints, Hayden Albright set the

personal best as well as provisional mark. Toby Wahlmeier showcased his skills,
securing the eighth spot in 21.80 seconds, destroying his previous personal
best. In the women's 200m, Tori Poe powered her way to seventh place in 25.42,
the best time of season on the team. Kinley Brown and Taylor Savolt followed
closely behind in 25.90 and 25.99.

Hayden Albright continued his dominance in the men's 400m,
claiming first place in a blistering time of 47.47 and marked his name in the
history books yet again for breaking the school record. Nolan Churchman
showcased his speed once again, securing third place in 48.00, the second
fastest 400m time of the year on the team and secured himself a spot in
nationals. Nakari Morrical-Palmer, Maayan Paz, and Cole Darling displayed their
strength and determination, finishing in 51.04, 51.05, and 52.08.

Reba Mader led the charge in the women's 400m, securing
second place in 56.31, a new school record that's also good for a trip to
nationals. She was third in the books with a performance earlier this year, but
puts her name atop the list with this performance. Taylor Savolt and Kinley
Brown followed closely behind in 57.66 and 57.90.

Ellie Dusselier, Hadley Williams, and Kylin Rudzik battled
it out in the women's 600y, securing fourth, fifth, and seventh place, in times
of 1:37.19, 1:38.87, and 1:41.62. Emery Wolfe and Andrew Waller showcased their
talent and determination in the men's 800m, securing fifth and ninth place,
respectively, in times of 1:58.49 and 2:03.75. In the men's 1 mile, Emery
Wolfe, Daniel Bechle, and Noah Morenz pushed themselves to the limit, claiming
fifth, sixth and eighth place in times of 4:23.55, 4:24.12 and 4:27.16 while
all breaking their previous personal best marks.

Carsyn Turpin led the pack in the men's 3,000m, securing
first place with a personal best time of 8:56.27, with Daniel Bechle and Noah
Morenz following closely behind in second and third place in times of 8:58.56
and 9:00.49.

In the field events, Keamonie Archie soared to victory in
the men's long jump, claiming first place with a leap of 23-6.75 feet and a
provisional mark. Jace Wentling, Chason VanDerWege, Carter Cellmer, Noah
McGregor, and Eddie McVay showcased their athleticism, securing sixth, seventh,
ninth, tenth, and twelfth place with jumps ranging from 20-3.0 to 21-9.5 feet.

Annabeth Baalmann showcased her talent in the women's pole
vault yet again, securing third place in DI competition with a height of
13-0.75 feet. This performance broke the school record that was previously set
by Baalmann two weeks ago in Topeka, Kan. Jacob Clark, Brady Deges, Kurtis
McCormick, and Nolan Churchman displayed their skill in the men's pole vault,
securing seventh, eighth, thirteenth, and fifteenth place for vaulting heights
ranging from 14-4.5 to 15-10.25 feet.

In the women's shot put, Liberty Booker, Kieran Burke,
Kennedy Spaeth, Rhyann Brown, and Addie Berens displayed their strength and
skill, securing fifth, sixth, eighth, ninth, and tenth place, respectively,
with throws ranging from 31-2.75 to 42-2.2 feet. In the women's weight throw,
Liberty Booker, Patrisha Doll, Kieran Burke, and Kennedy Spaeth showcased their
power and technique, securing fourth, fifth, sixth, and seventh place,
respectively, with throws ranging from 39-2.0 to 50-10.0 feet.

Next up for the Tigers is another trip to Topeka, Kan., this
time for the 2024 MIAA Indoor Championships next Friday through Sunday (Feb.
23-25).

The Kansas Wesleyan basketball teams will return to Salina on Saturday night in search of big bounce-back wins over the Moundbuilders of Southwestern

WBB: Kansas Wesleyan (13-11, 11-7) vs. SW College (0-23, 0-19)

It has been all KWU of late against Southwestern, the Coyotes winning the last 11 games. They defeated the Moundbuilders 81-68 in the first meeting January 3 in Winfield and have a 24-17 lead in the series since January 2006.

The Moundbuilders entered the week seeking their first victory of the season. They lost to Bethel 81-54 Saturday in North Newton and 85-72 to Oklahoma&nbsp;Wesleyan&nbsp;last Wednesday in Winfield.

Southwestern averages 57 points and allows 79. The Moundbuilders are shooting 32 percent overall, 25.7 percent from long distance, are being outrebounded by 8.1 per game and average 20 turnovers. 

Senior forward Christy Wiebe leads the team in scoring (11.2 points) and rebounding (8.7). Freshman guard Kennedy Ford is next on the scoring list (9.4). Sophomore guard Macey Pond had 18 points in the first game against KWU.

The ninth-ranked Moundbuilders defeated Bethel 97-89 Saturday in North Newton, rebounding from a 70-68 homecourt loss to No. 4 Oklahoma&nbsp;Wesleyan&nbsp;last Wednesday. Southwestern had won eight in a row prior to the OKWU setback.

Cevin Clark had 22 points, Mason Thiessen 21, and Jarvin Jennings 19 in the first game against KWU. Southwestern trailed 57-46 at halftime but made it close the second half.

Clark, a senior guard, leads the NAIA in scoring with a 27.1 average while shooting 48.4 percent from the field, 37.4 percent from long distance, and 85.4 percent from the foul line. He scored 19 against OKWU, 29 against Bethel and has tallied 30 or more seven times this season. Junior guard Justin DeMaria averages 12.5 points and junior guard Andrew O'Brien 10.4. The Moundbuilders average 89.5 points and outrebound their opponents by 12 per game.

Hays High resumed Western Athletic Conference play on Friday night by hosting Garden City. The final three games of the regular season for the Indians feature matchups against conference foes.

Girls Hays High 43, Garden City 14

Hays High allowed just four field goals for the entire game in a 43-14 win over Garden City. The win also claimed at minimum a share of the Western Athletic Conference title. Their first since 2012.

Hays led 1-0 over the first three minutes of the game before they hit the game's first field goal for a 4-0 advantage. Garden City made one of their four field goals thirty seconds later to close the gap down to 4-3. It was the closest Garden City was rest of the night.

Hays closed the first quarter on a 9-2 run then scored the first three points of the second quarter for a 16-5 lead. Garden City scored just one point in the second eight minutes of play. Hays scored the final five points before halftime, including a basket as time expired for a 21-6 advantage.

Hays led by 18 twice in the third quarter. They took a 24-6 lead with an early three pointer and then led again by 18 by hitting a free throw late in the third at 30-12.

Garden City was on a 11:55 drought before scoring their only points of the fourth quarter. The Indians scored once more to close out the game with a 43-14 victory. It was the least amount of points Hays has allowed this season.

Hays was led by 11 points from Katie Linenberger and 10 out of Zoe Winter. Garden City's KJ Pinchon scored 10.

The Indians had nine of their ten players in the game score. They tied a season high with 36 rebounds. Nine of the ten plays also grabbed at least one rebound.

Hays improves to 13-5, 6-0. Garden City falls to 9-10, 1-6.

Hays will honor their senior on Tuesday when they host Dodge City in the last regular season home game of the season.

Hays outscored Garden City 31-17 in the second half on their way to a 63-44 win over the Buffaloes. The win gave Hays a minimum share of the Western Athletic Conference title.

Hays and Garden City traded the lead six times in the first half and were tied on three occasions. The Buffaloes led at 6-5 and 9-8. The Indians took over the lead at 13-11 through the first quarter.

Hays built a handful of five point leads in the second quarter. Leading 22-17 the Indians saw Garden City go on a 7-0 run to take a 24-22 advantage and force a Hays timeout.

It would be the final lead of the game for Garden City. Hays scored back to back field goals to go up 26-24 and closed out the first half with a 32-27 advantage.

Hays slowly stretched out the lead through the second half. Runs of 6-2 and 7-4 in the third quarter propelled the Indians to a 47-37 lead heading to the fourth quarter. It was the Indians first double digit lead of the night.

The biggest run the Indians would go on through the night closed out the game. Leading 52-41 Hays went on a 11-1 to take their biggest lead of the night at 21 points. Garden City scored in the final seconds to make up the final score of 63-44.

Dawson Ruder recorded his double-double with 20 points and 15 rebounds. Jack Weimer added 18. Brody Burns led Garden City with 11 points.

Hays improves to 12-6, 6-0. Garden City falls to 8-11, 3-4.

🏀Hays girls and boys claim minimum share of WAC title

BETHANY &amp; EDMOND, Okla. – Fort Hays State picked up a split for the second-straight day at the Raising Cane's Softball Festival. The Tigers had a chance to upset No. 23 Southern Arkansas in the first game of the day, but came up short 3-2 in an extra-inning contest. However, they bounced back for a 9-4 win over East Central in the nightcap to claim&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/softball/roster/coaches/adrian-pilkington/1254">Adrian Pilkington</a>'s 200th&nbsp;win as head coach of the Tigers. With the results on a chilly Friday (Feb. 16), the Tigers moved to 6-2 overall on the season.

Pilkington became the first coach in FHSU's NCAA Division II softball history to reach 200 wins as she already owns the FHSU record for most wins by a head coach.

#23 Southern Arkansas 3, Fort Hays State 2 (8 inn.) Fort Hays State fought off some first-inning misfortune and rallied to tie No. 23 ranked Southern Arkansas. The Tigers had great chances to take the lead late, but could not find a key hit in clutch moments as the Muleriders escaped in extra innings with the international tiebreaker format in use.

Southern Nazarene used some good luck to plate a pair of runs in the bottom of the first inning. A bad hop on a hard grounder to third base turned into a double, and then a couple batters later, a very high infield pop fly caused havoc in a strong breeze and fell in fair play after touching the glove of a lunging Tiger defender. That would be the only earned run&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/softball/roster/morgan-schmidt/7748">Morgan Schmidt</a>&nbsp;would allow in the pitching circle. SAU plated its second run in the first as well on a dropped fly ball on the infield.

From that point,&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/softball/roster/morgan-schmidt/7748">Morgan Schmidt</a>&nbsp;shook off the tough luck and blanked a potent Mulerider offense over the next six innings. That gave her offense the chance to stage a comeback, which they did, but unfortunately fizzled when they had a chance to take the lead in the final three innings of the contest.

After giving up the two runs in the first, the Tigers cut the lead in half in the second when&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/softball/roster/lilliana-ramirez-johnson/7747">Lilliana Ramirez-Johnson</a>&nbsp;singled home&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/softball/roster/loren-beggs/7736">Loren Beggs</a>. In the sixth, a fielding error by SAU to open the inning opened the door for the Tigers. A&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/softball/roster/carly-stuke/7750">Carly Stuke</a>&nbsp;single set up runners at first and second and then&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/softball/roster/lexi-mohr/7744">Lexi Mohr</a>&nbsp;delivered a big-time pinch-hit RBI single to score Beggs for a second time in the game. The Tigers had runners at first and second with one out still, but a strikeout and lineout ended the threat.

The Tigers had another solid chance in the seventh with one out when&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/softball/roster/alondra-dominguez/7740">Alondra Dominguez</a>&nbsp;walked and&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/softball/roster/madison-pierce/7746">Madison Pierce</a>&nbsp;laced a double into the right field corner. However, a strikeout produced the second out and a walk by&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/softball/roster/regan-curry/7739">Regan Curry</a>&nbsp;loaded the bases. Unfortunately, another strikeout ended the Tigers' golden opportunity.

Schmidt retired the side in the seventh to force extra innings. Using the international tiebreaker, the Tigers started the eighth with a runner on second. The Tigers executed the sacrifice bunt to get the runner over just fine, but then a key strikeout left the runner at third and then&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/softball/roster/peyton-shepard/7749">Peyton Shepard</a>&nbsp;nearly beat out a ball bobbled by the second baseman, but was just a half-step late to the bag. SAU got its runner to third with two outs in the bottom of the eighth and Kamryn Moctezuma ended the game with an RBI single through the left side.

Schmidt took a tough-luck loss in a complete-game effort, going 7.2 innings with six hits and two walks allowed. She struck out six, moving to 2-2 on the season. Sydney Ward moved to 3-1 this season with 13 strikeouts in her 8.0 complete-game effort for the Muleriders. She allowed six hits, five walks, and hit one batter.

Fort Hays State 9, East Central 4 Even though game one was challenging with wind and chilly temperatures, the second game was even colder as the sun went behind the clouds while FHSU took on East Central at Gerry Pinkston Stadium in Edmond (home of UCO softball). East Central did the majority of its offensive damage in the third with two outs. A walk put two runners on and ECU followed that with an RBI single and a two-RBI double to take a 3-2 lead.

The ECU lead did not last long, however, as the Tigers stormed back with a huge 7-run bottom of the third to emphatically reclaim their lead. The rally started with singles by Tiffany and Dominguez, then&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/softball/roster/madison-pierce/7746">Madison Pierce</a>&nbsp;reached on a fielder's choice to load the bases. Beggs wore a pitch in tight that forced in the tying run. With the bags still juiced,&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/softball/roster/lilliana-ramirez-johnson/7747">Lilliana Ramirez-Johnson</a>&nbsp;knocked in the go-ahead run with an RBI groundout.

ECU changed pitchers, but the&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/softball/roster/lexi-mohr/7744">Lexi Mohr</a>&nbsp;continued the offensive onslaught with another single. FHSU had five hits in the inning to go with the two walks and the hit batter, taking a commanding 9-3 lead to the fourth.

That was plenty for&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/softball/roster/savanah-egger/7741">Savanah Egger</a>&nbsp;to move to 4-0 for the season in the pitching circle. Her only other run allowed came in the sixth, aided by a Tiger error. Egger allowed six hits and one walk, while striking out eight. Three of the four runs she allowed were earned.

Taryn O'Brien was tagged for eight of the nine runs scored by FHSU in just 2.1 innings of work in the pitching circle. Lauren HerrNeckar allowed the final run and worked 3.2 innings of relief.

The 10:30 a.m. game on Saturday (Feb. 17) with Southeastern Oklahoma State has been canceled due to the forecast. However, the Tigers will still play their 1 p.m. contest vs. Arkansas Tech at Deer Creek High School in Edmond. Only live stats will be available for that contest.

The Tigers had a chance to upset No. 23 Southern Arkansas in the first game of the day, but came up short 3-2 in an extra-inning contest. However, they bounced back for a 9-4 win over East Central in the nightcap to claim&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/softball/roster/coaches/adrian-pilkington/1254">Adrian Pilkington</a>'s 200th&nbsp;win as head coach of the Tigers. With the results on a chilly Friday (Feb. 16), the Tigers moved to 6-2 overall on the season.Pilkington became the first coach in FHSU's NCAA Division II softball history to reach 200 wins as she already owns the FHSU record for most wins by a head coach.#23 Southern Arkansas 3, Fort Hays State 2 (8 inn.) Fort Hays State fought off some first-inning misfortune and rallied to tie No. 23 ranked Southern Arkansas. The Tigers had great chances to take the lead late, but could not find a key hit in clutch moments as the Muleriders escaped in extra innings with the international tiebreaker format in use.Southern Nazarene used some good luck to plate a pair of runs in the bottom of the first inning. A bad hop on a hard grounder to third base turned into a double, and then a couple batters later, a very high infield pop fly caused havoc in a strong breeze and fell in fair play after touching the glove of a lunging Tiger defender. That would be the only earned run&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/softball/roster/morgan-schmidt/7748">Morgan Schmidt</a>&nbsp;would allow in the pitching circle. 🏀🎥 Hays High hosts Garden City in WAC matchup

Winning medals at swim meets is old hat for Kendra Clary, who began swimming competitively as a youngster.

These days, Clary – coach of the Hays High School swim teams – is enjoying watching her student-athletes collect the hardware.

But she does admit the most recent medal she was awarded has special meaning.

Clary, who doubles as a Fort Hays State University student, was named coach of the year at the Western Athletic Conference Swimming Championships in Garden City earlier this month.

“I hadn’t even realized they gave out that award,” Clary said. “I was so busy with the meet that when I heard it, I couldn’t believe it.”

Clary’s concentration on her team has paid off in a big way.

The Indians scored in all 12 events at the WAC meet to grab runner-up team honors, the highest conference finish for Hays High in recent years.

“That was really exciting,” Clary said. “The thing I was proudest of was how ever single one of our swimmers contributed to the team score.”

That’s because Clary got her team to buy in to the idea of trying different events this season.

“I can definitely tell a difference with our team this year,” junior Marshall Sook said. “I’m not saying one way of coaching is better than the other. But Kendra coaches in a way to break down our each individual skills and see what we are really good at. This year, we have people doing a different spread of events.”

Even while trying new races, the Indians kept bettering their times this season. That improvement led to a state-qualifying relay team, the first time an HHS relay has qualified for the season finale since 2018.

Sook is the anchor leg on that 200-yard freestyle relay team, whose best time this season was 1 minute, 41 seconds. Leo Hernandez is the only senior on that foursome, so Sook is excited for the future. Other relay members are sophomores Chase Zadina and Karsen Flaska.

Sook said he has personally benefitted from Clary’s philosophy.

For instance, this year, he decided to give the 100-meter butterfly a try and won the first meet he swam it. By the time the WAC meet rolled around, he was convinced that race was one of his new favorite events and placed second at that meet.

“The ’fly is the hardest stroke to do,” Sook said, “but I really like it.”

Clary wasn’t afraid to present her philosophy to the team because she takes this coaching gig seriously – just like she did competing in swimming and track and field in high school.

Clary was born in Wichita and spent her younger years there before moving to the Denver area.

While enjoying success as a freshman and sophomore at George Washington High School in Commerce City, Colo., she started experiencing shoulder problems from overuse.

So she took a break from swimming. Wanting to stay in shape, she decided to go out for track.

Primarily a sprinter in swimming, Clary decided to train for those same kind of events on the track. She had similar success there as she did in the pool.

After graduating from George Washington, she chose to further her education at Fort Hays State. She ran track for two years for the Tigers, helping break the school’s indoor and outdoor 4x400-meter relay records while also winning numerous academic awards.

But she kept being drawn back to the water, so she started coaching the Hays Hurricanes, the local youth swim club.

When Hays High coach Jane Rostrom decided to step aside for this coming season, Clary took over.

“I always stress that the work you do everyday matters,” said Clary, who will also coach the Indian girls’ team this spring.

She will graduate in May with a health and human performance degree, then take a “gap” year from school while applying for occupational therapy programs.

Clary is unsure if she will remain in Hays after graduation.

“If there is an opportunity where I could stay in Hays,” she said, “I’d definitely think about it.”

Until then, Clary is looking forward to a successful girls’ season at Hays High this spring and thinks the Indian boys’ team also has a bright future.

“I think we will have a lot of girls come out this spring,” she said, “and in the future, these guys will bring more with them to the team.”

Malik Bah played his high school ball at Lewis Field Stadium on the campus of Fort Hays State University. The scenery won't change for the Hays High senior as he is officially a Tiger.

National Signing Day was in early February. Bah though didn't get to celebrate his signing as planned as he was under the weather last week. This week on Thursday the Indians' all-time leading rusher had a signing celebration.

Bah moved to Hays from Seattle, Washington before sixth grade. He says that other players in his class embraced him and helped bring him into the program. That sixth grade year was the first time new Hays High coach Tony Crough saw the new student. Crough let Bah know that they were having a football meeting for incoming freshmen. Bah let Crough know he was just a sixth grader.

Football at a level beyond high school has been the goal for Bah since fifth grade. Fort Hays State University is the school he decided to continue that journey at. "I had a really good connection with all the coaches. When I went on my official visit I just immediately felt at home. No issues. I didn't feel any bad parts and feel like I can grow there the next four years."

Bah burst onto the high school scene in high school but still had to wait his turn behind talented upper classmen. He rushed for 634 yards on 83 carries and 7 touchdowns in limited action. He averaged 7.6 yards per carry that year.

As the feature running back the next two seasons, Bah would get the majority of carries. His junior season totaled 155 carries for 1,633 yards and 22 touchdowns and added ten receptions for 206 yards and 2 scores. With more defensive game plans designed to stop Bah his senior season he rushed for 1,279 yards on 188 carries and scored 13 times. He also caught 12 passes for another 174 yards.

Bah also threw the ball a little. He was 3-4 passing in his career with three scores.&nbsp;

His 3,546 yards are number one all-time at Hays High. He also tops the all-time list with 426 carries and 282 career points. Bah averaged 8.32 yards per carry. He hit the top of the career charts despite missing games both his junior and senior season due to injury.

With more defensive game plans designed to stop Bah his senior season he rushed for 1,279 yards on 188 carries and scored 13 times. He also caught 12 passes for another 174 yards.Bah also threw the ball a little. He was 3-4 passing in his career with three scores.&nbsp;His 3,546 yards are number one all-time at Hays High. He also tops the all-time list with 426 carries and 282 career points. Bah averaged 8.32 yards per carry. He hit the top of the career charts despite missing games both his junior and senior season due to injury.

🏀Thursday's high school scores

NORTON – The TMP-Marian Monarchs went on the road Thursday night for
a pair of key Mid-Continent League games with the Bluejays but came up short, dropping
both games of the doubleheader.

The TMP girls were held without a field goal for more than 12
minutes as Norton rushed out to a double-digit lead on their way to a 47-33 win
over the Lady Monarchs.

TMP (9-11, 5-4) struggled offensively to start the game,
missing their first 18 shots and it wasn’t until Brynn Rebel pulled down an
offensive rebound and found Raegan Allen inside for a layup with less than four
minutes left in the first half, that the Monarchs got on the scoreboard. It was
14-2 with 3:50 to play in the first half.

Despite shooting just 13% from the floor in the first half,
and 0-9 from three, TMP found themselves down just 12 at the break.

Early in the third quarter TMP cut the lead to nine and then
cut it to eight at 26-18 on a Claire Schippers field goal but Norton (15-4,
7-2) answered with a 14-3 run to end the third quarter and open the fourth
quarter for a 40-21 lead.

In the final frame TMP briefly cut the lead to 11 after a
10-2 run to make it 42-31 but they got no closer and suffered the 47-33 loss.

TMP’s Brooke Koenigsman tied for the game-high with 12
points.

The Norton Bluejays used a 21-5 second-half run to erase a
halftime deficit and beat the Monarchs 49-34 Thursday.

Norton (16-3, 9-0) jumped out to the early 8-0 lead before
TMP’s Will Eck converted on a three-point play that sparked a 14-1 Monarchs run
to end the first quarter. During that run Ian Nehls scored eight points for TMP
helping the Monarchs to a 14-9 first quarter lead.

Norton outscored TMP (9-11, 7-2) 8-6 in the second quarter
with TMP’s field goals coming on three-pointers from Ty Schmeidler and Caden
Dinkel as the Monarchs built a 20-17 halftime lead.

Coming out of the halftime break though proved to be the
difference in the game. Norton outscored TMP 21-5 in the third quarter and into
the fourth quarter as they built a double-digit lead and they never trailed
again in a 49-34 Norton victory.

Ty Schmeidler led TMP with 11 points and Ian Nehls added 10
points.

The Monarchs will travel to Plainville on Tuesday to wrap up
the regular season.

FHSU limited Lincoln to just 17 first-half points and continued their stifling defense in the second half to cruise to victory. The No. 18-ranked Tigers are now 19-5 overall and 14-4 in the MIAA, while Lincoln moved to 13-10 overall, 8-9 in the MIAA.

Both teams struggled mightily from the field to open the game, going a combined 0-of-14. Lincoln finally made the first field goal of the game just before the first media break and led 4-1. Out of the break, the Tiger offense found its footing, going on a 17-0 run to go from three down to 14 up (18-4) with 6:56 to play in the half. Lincoln eventually reached a point of 1-of-17 from the field before making its second field goal of the half with about 6:30 on the clock. The Blue Tigers eventually climbed within five, but a 6-0 burst by the Tigers created space again and the margin rested at 26-17 in favor of FHSU at the half.

Out of the break, the Tigers scored the first four points and extended their lead to 13. They would hold their double-digit lead the remainder of the game, methodically growing the advantage larger and larger to a 23-point margin with 3:03 to play. A late bucket just before the final horn allowed Lincoln to crawl north of 40 points for the game, but it was the seventh time this season the nation's best scoring defense held an MIAA opponent inside of 50 points. Four of those seven instances have been on the road. The result pushed FHSU's scoring defense average down to 56.8 per game.

🏀 No. 18 Tiger men shuts down Blue Tigers

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - The Fort Hays State women's basketball team cruised to a 28-point road win Thursday evening, winning 75-47 at Lincoln's Jason Gym. The Tigers move to 19-5 on the year and 13-5 in conference play, one win away from extending the longest active streak of 20-win season to 13, while the Blue Tigers dip to 6-17 overall and 2-15 in league action.

The Tigers trailed for all of 36 seconds when Lincoln scored the first basket of the night, but FHSU promptly took the lead for good by scoring the next 10 points. A Katie Wagner&nbsp;3-pointer late in the period pushed the run to 21-4, giving the Tigers a 21-6 lead and handing Wagner 13 points in the first quarter.

The Blue Tigers scored the final four points of the first quarter, prompting a 13-3 LU run over the next six minutes of game action that allowed the home team to pull within five, 24-19. The Tigers hit a season-high 51.7 percent from the floor (30-of-58) while limiting Lincoln to a shooting percentage of 33.3 percent (17-of-51). FHSU dominated on the boards, grabbing 11 more rebounds than the Blue Tigers, 37-26. The Tigers scored a season-high 46 points in the paint, compared to 22 points in the paint for Lincoln.

Fort Hays State will play its final road game of the season Saturday (Feb. 17) at Central Missouri beginning at 1 p.m. before returning home for the last three games of the regular season.&nbsp;&nbsp;

🏀 Tiger women cruise past Lincoln

BETHANY, Okla. – Fort Hays State split its first two games
of the Raising Cane's Softball Festival in Oklahoma on Thursday (Feb. 15). The
Tigers fell to Oklahoma Baptist 5-2 in their first game of the day, but bounced
back for a 2-0 win over Southern Nazarene behind Savanah Egger's second shutout
performance of the season. FHSU moved to 5-1 overall on the season.

For the first time this season Fort Hays State trailed in a
game and could not muster a comeback rally late, taking its first loss of the
season. The Tigers allowed nine walks in the contest, but only two turned into
runs for the Bison.

In the second inning, a pair of back-to-back walks preceded
a two-RBI Cassidy Morrow double down the right field line to put OBU up 2-0.
After FHSU cut the lead in half in the third inning, OBU moved back in front by
two with a triple and a sacrifice fly. The Tigers got within a run again in the
fifth, but the Bison extended their lead to three in the bottom half of the
inning when Ally Ryan connected for a two-run homer. That capped the scoring in
the game.

A pair of fielding errors by the Bison in the third led to
the first FHSU run. Alondra Dominguez made the Bison pay for their mistakes
with an RBI single to the left side. In the fifth, a two-out single by Peyton
Shepard set up an RBI double by Sarah Tiffany.

Shepard went 3-for-4 in the contest, while FHSU's three
other hits were spread among three players, which included the RBI hits by
Dominguez and Tiffany.

SNU in three of seven innings to pick up her second shutout of the season. The
Crimson Storm had runners in scoring position in the first, second, and fifth
innings, but Egger was able to shut the door on the home team to move to 3-0 on
the season. Just like the week before in her shutout against Cameron, she
retired the final eight batters of the game she faced to nail down the win.The Tigers generated their first run of the game in the
second on a sacrifice fly RBI by Lilliana Ramirez-Johnson. The Tigers loaded
the bases in front of her with a Regan Curry single, Carly Stuke walk, and
Aubrey Martinez single. FHSU gave Egger an insurance run in the seventh when
Stuke walked, Adysen Burghart put down a sacrifice bunt, and then
Ramirez-Johnson struck again with an RBI single to score Stuke.Egger scattered just three hits and walked two, while
striking out a pair of SNU batters. Olivia Hernandez threw the first 6.0
innings and took the loss for the Crimson Storm and allowed one run on three
hits with four walks. Katelyn Woodard threw the final inning for SNU and also
gave up a run on a hit and a walk.Fort Hays State returns to action on Friday, playing their
first contest of the day against Southern Arkansas at 10 a.m. in Bethany before
traveling north to Edmond to play East Central at 3:30 p.m.
