Lifelong Goodland, Kansas resident Patricia Ann Briney, 68, passed away on Monday, September 18, 2023 at her home in Goodland.

Pat was born on March 22, 1955 in Goodland, Kansas to Dan Morton and Dorothy Mae (Jones) Harper.&nbsp; She was one of four children.&nbsp; 

Growing up in Goodland and attending school here, she graduated with the class of 1973.

On December 29, 1973, she married Stephen Mark Briney in Goodland.&nbsp; To this union, two children Stephanie and David were born.&nbsp; 

Pat worked for many years in the Goodland School System as a para professional.&nbsp; She also worked for several years at the Goodland Library.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Surviving family includes her husband Steve, of the home in Goodland, her two children, Stephanie Briney of Columbia, South Carolina and David (Danielle) Briney of Gillette, Wyoming.&nbsp; She is also survived by her three grandchildren, Jordan, Isabelle and Londyn Briney of Gillette, Wyoming; one sister Jacque (Barry) Jarrett of Goodland, KS; and two brothers, Duane Harper of Goodland, KS and Dwight (Jennifer) Harper of Oregon City, Oregon, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Charlene Marie Sharpe, age 78, passed away on Wednesday, September 13, 2023, at the Springs Ranch Memory Care Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado.&nbsp; She was born on May 13, 1945, in Colby, Kansas, the daughter of Charles Wenzel and Agnes M. Wahrman Brown.&nbsp; 

A resident of Scott City, Kansas since 1968 moving from Herndon, Kansas, she was a sales service specialist at B&amp;B Advertising for 51 years.

She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Scott City, Kansas.

On August 18, 1964, she married Clive Joel Sharpe in Herndon, Kansas.&nbsp; He passed away on December 15, 2020, in Scott City, Kansas.

Survivors include her daughter - Christina M. Sharpe of Colorado Springs, Colorado, son - C. Justin and Heather Sharpe of Gilbert, Arizona, three grandchildren - Maddisen R. Sharpe of Madison, Wisconsin, Spencer J. Sharpe of Fishers, Indiana, Jarod C. Sharpe of Gilbert, Arizona.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, September 30, 2023, at Price &amp; Sons Funeral Home in Scott City, Kansas.

Eiko Konno Bosserman,&nbsp;Golden Valley, Arizona

Eiko Konna Bosserman was born the second daughter of Chotaro and Haru Konno on January 28, 1930 in Fukushima Prefecture in Japan. &nbsp;She left this world on May 18, 2023 in Golden Valley, AZ.

On March 20, 1957, Eiko married Ben Bosserman at the American Embassy in Tokyo, Japan. &nbsp;In 1964 she was granted citizenship into the United States. 

In Japan, Eiko was a trained midwife. &nbsp;Upon her arrival in the U.S., she worked a civilian job until she and Ben retired and moved to Arizona. While living in the Kingman area, she and Ben were very active in the local VFW chapter and enjoyed exploring the southwest, collecting rocks/stones and turning them into jewelry.

Eiko was very proud of her Japanese heritage. &nbsp;She was raised Buddhist and remained faithful to her teachings.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Ben Bosserman (2008). &nbsp;

She is survived by her brother-in-law John Bosserman, Oakley; nephews D.J. Bosserman (Joyce), Oakley, and Troy Bosserman (Laura), Oakley; great-niece/nephews Ashley Dinkel (Brandon), Hill City, KS; Clayton Bosserman (Ashley), Oakley, KS; Jonothan Bosserman (Nastasja), Oklahoma City, OK; great-great-nieces/nephews Conner Dinkel, Cade Dinkel, Cholee Dinkel, Citori Bosserman, Cauy Bosserman and Hattie Bosserman, along with extended family in Japan.

Private services were held in Oakley and in Japan.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Margaret Gisler Thibault was born in Brawley, California on October 21, 1922. She had a twin brother, Joe, and brothers Frank and Walt and an older sister Annie. Her parents emigrated from Switzerland at the turn of the century. 

Margaret graduated from Chino High School in 1941. She married Levi Thibault in 1942.

Margaret was a true pioneer woman and when Levi decided to move back to Kansas, she gave up her family and friends to move to a small farm without indoor plumbing. Margaret moved with two little girls, pregnant with her third child and became a farmer’s wife. She learned to plant a large garden, dress chickens, cook for a family of seven, make clothes, repair anything and be active in her church and the lives of her five children !

Margaret is survived by her children, Betty Beatty, Barbara Robinson, Dave and his wife Susan, Tim and his wife Cindy. Her son, Larry, predeceased her in October of 2022. She has ten grandchildren, 16 great children and one great great granddaughter. She was loved and cherished by her family!

LEOTI — JoAnn Neubauer (Krenzel) passed away peacefully on Friday, September 15, 2023, in Wichita, Kansas.&nbsp; She was 80 years old.

JoAnn was born to Leo H. Krenzel and Frances Appl in Great Bend, Kansas on July 20th, 1943.&nbsp; 

After graduating from Leoti High School in 1961, she married Richard H. Neubauer in September 1964.&nbsp; Together, they briefly set out to California before coming back to southwest Kansas where they started a family in 1967, having three children – Darcie, Theresa, and Jaret Holt.&nbsp; 

JoAnn was a proud employee of the U.S. Postal Service until she retired.&nbsp; While she appreciated most all sports, she was a particular fan of Chiefs football and KU basketball and was always quick to make sure her family was kept up to date on the latest sports news.&nbsp; She adored Elvis and loved shopping…especially at Target.&nbsp; Her ability to make the finest chocolate pie and brownies in all of southwest Kansas could not be overstated.

She is preceded in death by her parents and survived by her children and their spouses – Darcie and Dan Howk of Parker, CO, Theresa &amp; Dave Whatley of Goddard, KS, and Jaret and Shawnee Neubauer of Longmont, CO, as well as her sister Leola “Aunt Ole” Owens of Leoti, KS and two nephews – Perry (and Bonnie) Owens of Minneapolis, KS and Cole (and Glenda) Owens of Garden City, KS.&nbsp; JoAnn was blessed to be a grandmother to four grandchildren – Megan, Darrell (and Kimmy), Josh, and Jurnee and great-grandmother to four more – Meela, Nash, Ameera, and Cory. &nbsp;

Jo Ann Lawrence, 88, passed away on September 19, 2023, at The Villa at Blue Ridge, Columbia, Mo. She was born on October 5, 1934, in Kinsley, Kan., to John William “Jack” and Agnes (Bartlett) Montgomery.

On October 5, 1954, she married Howard Lawrence in Kinsley, Kan. He passed on June 19, 2007.

A former resident of Albert for over 60 years before moving to Columbia in 2015, Jo Ann spent her working years as an RN. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Albert, Kan., then the King Memorial United Methodist Church in Great Bend, Kan. Jo Ann had a servant heart and was dedicated to helping others both personally and professionally. She was an EMT with the Albert Fire Department, and always willing to help organize and work any church event, from soup suppers to soup kitchens. Jo Ann also enjoyed reading, gardening, canning, and sewing.

Survivors include two sons, Brent (Leanna) Lawrence of Columbia, Mo., and Bruce (Judy Demel) Lawrence of Great Bend, Kan.; a daughter, Shirley (Jon) Deege of Larned, Kan.; eight grandchildren, Justin Lawrence, Amanda Lawrence, Stefanie Perret, Coryell Deege, Camelle Deege, Carley Martin, Ari Lawrence, and Nate Lawrence; three great-grandchildren, Kenny Steinborn, Zoie Steinborn and Jaradee Perret; an additional great-grandchild on the way; a sister, Norma (Leonard) Kelly of Auburn, Kan.; and a sister-in-law, Barbara Montgomery.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; a daughter, Sue Ann Lawrence; a brother, George Montgomery; and an infant sister.

Michael Glenn Folkerts, 55, passed away September 18, 2023, at Hays Medical Center in Hays, Kan. He was born October 25, 1967, in Larned, to Glenn and Derinda (Murphy) Folkerts.&nbsp;

A longtime Great Bend resident, growing up on a farm near Timken, Mike worked in the manufacturing industry for many years, specifically in quality control for GBI. &nbsp;

However, he recently discovered and embraced his career passion as a paraprofessional for USD 407 in Russell. 

Mike was known to have a spirited love for all things related to nature, spending any spare time he had at Lake Wilson, Cheyenne Bottoms, Quivira Refuge, and Rowe Sanctuary in Gibbon, Neb. &nbsp;He was an avid photographer, being able to capture the perfect sunset and any rare bird or wildlife that would happen by. 

Mike also had a keen interest in most sports, but had a life long enthusiasm for the Dallas Cowboys. &nbsp;Above all, Mike cherished time spent with his family and friends.

Survivors include his parents, Glenn and Derinda Folkerts of Great Bend; two daughters, Kyleene Folkerts of Great Bend and Alexis Folkerts of Hays; a sister, Lori Kohls of Great Bend; and nephew Jayce Kohls of Great Bend.

Friends may sign the register book from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m., Sunday, September 24, 2023, with family to receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, September 25, 2023, at Heartland Community Church, Great Bend, with Pastor Troy Miller presiding. Deryl S. Wynn, age 90, of WaKeeney, Kansas, peacefully passed away on Sunday, September 17, 2023, at Trego County Long Term Care in WaKeeney. She was born on August 15, 1933, in Sioux City, Iowa, to loving parents Leonard Daniel and Vera Irene (Thompson) Murphy.

Deryl dedicated her life to caring for others as a registered nurse. She served as the director of nursing at Trego Manor and made a lasting impact as an RN at Trego County Lemke Memorial Hospital and Long Term Care. Deryl's commitment to her profession touched the lives of countless individuals.

She was a cherished member of the Ogallah Christian Church and actively participated in the Ladies Aide Group and EHU of Ogallah. Deryl's community spirit shone through her involvement in the Ogallah 4-H club. In her leisure time, she found joy in baking and sewing, sharing her talents with family and friends.

Deryl is survived by her loving family, including two sons, Bill (Patty) Wynn of WaKeeney and Tom (Tabitha) Wynn of WaKeeney; three daughters, Peggy Braun of Ogallah, JuLee Wynn of WaKeeney, and Vicki (Dale) Henderson of Ellis; son-in-law, Dave Hafliger of Ogallah; 15 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren with two more on the way, and 15 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Carroll Wynn; a daughter, Linda Hafliger; two grandchildren, Diane Renee Henderson and Wayne Michael Braun; a son-in-law, Joe Braun; a sister, Rachelle Murphy; and a brother, Gaylon Murphy.

Private family services will be held, and Deryl will be laid to rest in the Ogallah Cemetery.

James S. “Jimmy” Holopirek, 47, Timken, Kansas, passed away Sunday, September 17, 2023, at his home.

Jimmy was born on Christmas Day, 1975, in Great Bend, Kansas, the son of Donald D. “Donnie” and Frances (Herrman) Holopirek. He was a lifelong resident of Rush County, Kansas. A 1994 graduate of Otis-Bison High School, Otis, Kansas, he was a farmer and rancher.

He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Timken, Kansas, Knights of Columbus Council 2100, Olmitz, Kansas, the Western Fraternal Lodge, Timken, Kansas, and the Kansas Livestock Association, Topeka, Kansas. 

Through the years, he served on the boards of Banner Township, Mid-State Farmers Co-op, Rush Center, Kansas, and the Fireman’s Relief Association, Timken, Kansas. He assisted with staking duties for the Bohemian National Cemetery, Timken, Kansas.

 One of Jimmy’s greatest passions was the Timken Fire Department, Timken, Kansas, where he was a volunteer firefighter, and served as fire chief for many, many years.

Survivors include his brother, Jay D. Holopirek, and wife, Heidi, La Crosse, Kansas; his sister, Julie A. Wagner, and husband, Terry, Rush Center, Kansas; his nephews and nieces, Matthew Wagner, and wife, Dekota, Marissa Wagner, Garrett Holopirek, Paige Holopirek, and Cade Holopirek; and his great-nephew, Maverick Wagner, along with a host of extended family, friends and wonderful neighbors.

Visitation will be Sunday, September 24, 2023, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Janousek Funeral Home, La Crosse, Kansas, with the family receiving friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A vigil service and rosary will be at 7:00 p.m.

A lifetime resident of Scott County, Kansas, he was a student at Scott Community High School.&nbsp; Kamdyn was a Native American enrolled with the Wichita Tribe his Native name is Running Wind.

Kamdyn was a member of the Prairie View Church of the Brethren in Friend, Kansas.&nbsp; He was also a member of the 4-H, National Junior Hereford Association, and Kansas Junior Hereford Association.

Kamdyn Paul Henry Moore

Karla Lynn (Paulson) Wessel, 71, of Selden, Kansas passed away at the Citizens Medical Center in Colby, Kansas, September 14, 2023. She was born to Leslie L. and Melvia D. (Mischler) Paulson in Colby, Kansas, on November 16, 1951. 

Karla graduated from Golden Plains High School with the class of 1969. After graduation, Karla attended and graduated from Colby Community College, earning her associate degree as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). When Karla started school at Colby Community College, her mother also attended and earned her LPN. They were the first mother-daughter pair to go through the program. 

Karla married Arthur “Art” Dean Wessel on July 16, 1969, in Selden, Kansas in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. When they were first married, they lived on a farm outside of Selden. They eventually moved to their family farm on the Solomon River where they raised their three sons. Karla lived on the farm until her husband passed away. She moved to Selden, Kansas and lived with her sister in their childhood home.

Karla worked as an LPN for many years at the Sheridan County Hospital and in the Neuenschwander Clinic in Hoxie with Drs. John and John Rand Neuenschwander. She really enjoyed being an LPN. After Art became ill, she stopped working to take care of him. 

Karla had a big garden and canned the produce, so she could have good homegrown vegetables all winter. She made jelly and passed the art of jelly making down to her daughters-in-law and granddaughters. Karla loved spending time with her family and grandchildren. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy; she enjoyed watching them grow up. 

She was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Selden, Kansas.

Karla is survived by her sons, Ben Wessel (Christa) of Bonner Springs, Kansas, Dan Wessel (Melissa) of Rexford, Kansas, and Chris Wessel (Robynn) of Selden, Kansas; brother, John Paulson; sister, Leslie Lavinia Paulson; grandchildren, Les Wessel, Emma Wessel, Kade Wessel, Koi Wessel (Beth), Kailee Wessel, Addy Wessel, and Eva Wessel; and great-grandson, Benjamin Wessel.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur D. Wessel; and parents, Leslie and Melvia Paulson.

A Mass of Christian Burial is planned for Wednesday, September 20, 10:30 a.m., at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Selden, Kansas. Interment will follow the service in the Selden Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 19, 2023, at the Pauls Funeral Chapel in Selden, Kansas from 1:30 p.m. until 5:15 p.m. and from 5:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Selden, Kansas with the Vigil and Rosary Service starting at 7:00 p.m. at the church.

Bruce Duane Roe, passed away peacefully with his loving family and some of his favorite nurses by his side. Bruce was born March 17th, 1951 in Norton, KS to Robert D and Peggy Roe. 

He grew up in Norcatur and graduated from Norcatur High School with the class of 1969.

Bruce liked to live life to the fullest, even testing his parents daily! He was a jack of all trades and there was very little he couldn't do.&nbsp;

In 1983, Bruce married Jeana “Klepper” Hoppe. To this union, he gained two children, Erica Warnke and Marshall Hoppe. In 1984, Blake Robert was born.&nbsp;

On September 29th, 2003, he married Tina “Taylor” Baker in Georgetown Colorado.&nbsp; With this marriage, they both gained a child.

Bruce loved to go hunting and fishing with his family. Thanksgiving morning was a family tradition. Lake McConaughy holds a special place as well. He loved to spend every chance he had sitting around the table visiting with the kids and grandkids, playing cards, dominos or whatever the game might be.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Peggy, Brother Bradley Roe, brother-in-law John Morrissey.

Goodland, KS resident and former Canon City, CO resident Terrance Patrick Kunz, 69, passed away at his home in Goodland surrounded by his family on Wednesday, September 13, 2023.

Terry was born on February 5, 1954 in New Ulm, Minnesota to Willard and Alice (Eichten) Kunz.&nbsp; He was one of seven children.&nbsp; 

He grew up and attended school in Denver, and graduated from South High School in Denver with the class of 1972.

On March 23, 1973, Terry married Denyse Marie Simpleman in Denver.&nbsp; To this union, three children were born, Mellanie, Staci and TJ.

Terry was a big man with an even bigger heart, faith, and character. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He spent most of his career in different aspects of food service, while being involved in self- employment, fire chief of a volunteer fire department, rescued wild horses and burros, drove school bus for CCSD, and had the privilege of driving new recruits to MEPS in Denver.

Upon a series of events, Terry and Denyse had to relocate to Goodland, KS. The most difficult adjustment for Terry was not being able to listen to KRLN and participating in Riddle Me This and Webster's Journey. He truly missed his on-air friends Lobo, Tay, Caleb, and Ed.

Terry and his family are grateful for his beloved physicians Dr. Sindler, Dr. Reppert, and Dr. Pacheco and his incredible staff at Rocky Mtn. Cancer Center. Their devotion, skill, and compassion are nothing short of Divine intervention.

Preceding him in death were his parents, and three brothers, Mike, John and Jim Kunz. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Denyse of Goodland, KS, his children Mellanie (Cleve) Trachsel of Goodland, KS, Staci (Jason) Hennick of Sharon Springs, KS and TJ (Jess) Kunz of Canon City, CO.&nbsp; He is also survived by four grandchildren,Tyler (Savanna) Rodosevich of Sharon Springs, KS, Layne Goodwin (Trenton Mitchek) of Eads, CO, Haylee Hennick of Sharon Springs, KS and Chayton Goodwin of Goodland, KS; two great-grandchildren Tyler and Banks; his brother and sisters Rick (Judy) Kunz, Mollye (Rex)Graber and Anna (Art) Ruble, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Mary Rose Lauber, 67, passed away September 17, 2023, at Medicalodges of Great Bend. She was born July 18, 1956, at Great Bend, to Eugene and Okla (Dixon) Addington. 

She married Larry Gene Lauber on June 17, 1977, in Great Bend. He passed November 20, 2020.&nbsp;

A lifetime Great Bend resident, Mary was a CNA at many nursing homes in Great Bend. 

Mary enjoyed fishing, riding motorcycles, horses, crocheting, playing bingo and was an avid reader. She enjoyed spending time with her family.&nbsp;

Survivors include four sons, Larry Lauber, Jr. and wife Jayda, Andrew Lauber and Daniel Lauber and wife Janice, all of Great Bend, and Jason Lauber of Lyons; a daughter, Raven Hamit and husband David of Great Bend; and 16 grandchildren. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Larry Lauber; two brothers, Bobby Addington and James “Jimmy” Addington; and two sisters, Rossie Lauber and Marie Drewel.&nbsp;

Visitation will be held from noon to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 20, 2023, at Bryant Funeral Home, with family to receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, September 21, 2023, at Bryant Funeral Home, with Chaplain Jeffrey Owen presiding. December 25, 1938 ~ September 17, 2023 (age 84)

Shirley Ann (Pfeifer) Schmidt, 84, Catharine, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 17, 2023 at her home surrounded by her children. She was born December 25, 1938, on the family farm in Hyacinth to Aloysius A. and Katherine (Horning) Pfeifer. 

She attended Locust Grove for eight years, then St. Mary of the Plains in Dodge City as a boarding student, graduating in 1956.

She married Emery R. Schmidt on October 10, 1959, in Hays. They celebrated 61 years of marriage until his passing on January 15, 2021.

After high school, at the age of 17, she went to St. Anthony’s Hospital to get a job and was trained at the hospital as a certified nurse aide. Her jobs throughout her life consisted as an aid on the floor at the hospital, home health aide, compassionate caregiver in homes, later as a senior companion, mentor for future nurses and as a guest presenter for prospective nurses. After many years of service, she retired in her 70s.

Shirley was an avid fan of the Kansas City Royals and Chiefs. She also enjoyed all the game shows, especially Wheel of Fortune, and doing crossword puzzles. Her daily routine throughout life included saying several rosaries every morning, cooking for her family (which she loved), and her farmwife work of assisting Emery on the farm by running for parts on any given day during harvest and providing meals out on the field for all the guys. 

She and Emery spent many occasions getting together with the neighbors having after-harvest parties, card parties (pinochle), planning and putting on community festivities and supported school functions. 

She was a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, caregiver, and friend. She was a lover of animals and leaves behind a dog, Jake, and a kitty. Shirley was a “giver,” always stood up for others and did not stand for bullying. She knew no stranger. 

In later years, she and her husband enjoyed going to the Golden Q on Sundays. She and her children and their families continued this tradition after his death. She enjoyed her burger and beer up until her death.

She was a member of St. Catherine Catholic Church, the St. Catherine Christian Mothers Altar Society and taught catechism.

She is survived by her son, Greg Schmidt and wife, Pam, Catharine; two daughters, Jackie Jones and husband Tim, Hays and Lisa Stouffer and husband, Allen, Leavenworth; daughter-in-law Ann Schmidt, Catharine; one brother, Verlin Pfeifer, Hill City; three sisters, Mary Vogt and husband Rick, Chicago, IL, Sheila Thompson and husband Tim, Kansas City, and Rebecca Tolemy and husband, David, Chicago, IL; two brothers-in-law Adolph Schmidt and wife, DeAnn and Gerald Schmidt and wife Elaine, all of Hays; three sisters-in-law Rosie Schmidt, Hays, Cora Dortland, Gorham, and Sandy Pfeifer, Covington, PA; 12 grandchildren, Eric (Kelli) Schmidt, Ryan (Jennifer) Schmidt, John (Aubrey) Jones, Rachel (Scott) VonFeldt, Niki (Tony) Smith, Casey (Nathan) Wendel, Erin (Ryan) Sims, Kyle Schmidt, Carly Schmidt (Fiancé Tyler Boling), Shelby Stouffer, Lucas (Megan) Stouffer, and Michael Schmidt; 21 great-grandchildren, Catherine, Evelyn, Sophia, Elon, Mason, and Colby Schmidt, Jace Herbers, Cooper and Georgia Jones, Emma and Julie Smith, Camri, Kaden, and Konnor&nbsp;VonFeldt, Clayton, Tyler and Bennett Wendel, Olivia and Rhett Sims, Emerie and Renlie Stouffer, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her youngest son, Michael A. Schmidt, her parents, two sisters, Lillian and infant sister Theresa, one brother, Patrick Pfeifer, seven brothers-in-law Herbert Schmidt, Wilfred Rome, Ray Dinkel, Everett Dortland, Alfred Schmidt, Elmer Schmidt, and Maynard Evans, and seven sisters-in-law, Esther Schmidt, Francis Schmidt, Cyrilla Evans, Irene Dinkel, Fidelia Rome, Midge Pfeifer, and Ginger Pfeifer.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 21, 2023 at St. Catherine Catholic Church, Catharine. Burial will follow in St. Catherine Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 on Wednesday and from 8:30 a.m. until 9:30 on Thursday, all at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home. A St. Catherine Christian Mothers Altar Society rosary will be at 6:00 p.m. followed by a vigil service at 6:30, all on Wednesday at the funeral home.

Schmidt, her parents, two sisters, Lillian and infant sister Theresa, one brother, Patrick Pfeifer, seven brothers-in-law Herbert Schmidt, Wilfred Rome, Ray Dinkel, Everett Dortland, Alfred Schmidt, Elmer Schmidt, and Maynard Evans, and seven sisters-in-law, Esther Schmidt, Francis Schmidt, Cyrilla Evans, Irene Dinkel, Fidelia Rome, Midge Pfeifer, and Ginger Pfeifer.Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 21, 2023 at St. Catherine Catholic Church, Catharine. Burial will follow in St. Catherine Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 on Wednesday and from 8:30 a.m. until 9:30 on Thursday, all at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home. A St. Catherine Christian Mothers Altar Society rosary will be at 6:00 p.m. followed by a vigil service at 6:30, all on Wednesday at the funeral home. Kenneth Wayne Kuntzsch, Sr., 77, of Russell, Kansas, died on Thursday, September 14, 2023, at the Hays Medical Center in Hays, Kansas.

Kenneth was born on March 19, 1946, in Russell, Kansas, the son of William H. and Margaret F. Reddig.&nbsp; He grew up in the Russell and Bunker Hill, Kansas, areas and attended local schools.&nbsp; 

He met, fell in love, and was united in marriage to Linda Marie Dicus on February6, 1967, in Russell, Kansas.&nbsp; From this union they were blessed with four sons, James, Kevin, Lyndall and Kenneth.&nbsp; 

He worked as an oilfield worker for Red Tiger Trucking, Mai Excavating and Mai Oil Operations.&nbsp; 

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, word search puzzles and was an enthusiastic member of the NRA.&nbsp; Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his large family and especially enjoyed spending time with his grandkids and great-grandkids.

Surviving family include his wife Linda of the home, sons James Kuntzsch of Russell, Kansas, Kevin Kuntzsch of Ottawa, Kansas, Lyndall Kuntzsch and wife Debbie of Julesburg, Colorado and Kenneth Kuntzsch, Jr. and wife Kim of Russell, Kansas; brothers Dennis Kuntzsch and wife Cheryl of Palco, Kansas and James Kuntzsch and wife Joyce of Dorrance, Kansas; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Billy and John Kuntzsch and sisters Norma Acheson, Peggy Heckens, Nancy Hupfer and Patsy Edsel.

A celebration of Kenneth’s life will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, September 19, 2023, at the Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary in Russell, Kansas.&nbsp; Burial will follow at the Bunker Hill Cemetery in Bunker Hill, Kansas.&nbsp; Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Monday, September 18, 2023, at the mortuary with family greeting guests from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday evening.&nbsp;

Dale Duane Bretton was born July 9, 1935 in Phillips County, KS, the son of Hugh &amp; Edna (LaRue) Bretton. &nbsp;He was premature, weighing only two lbs. &nbsp;He grew up in Phillips County where he attended school through the 8th grade.

Dale married his first wife, Edna Mae, and to this union, four daughters, Doris, Darlene, Dorothy and Dixie were born.

He worked for Rooks County doing dirt work construction. &nbsp;He later moved to Minneapolis, KS. &nbsp;After returning back to Phillips County, Dale took over the family farm.

On Sept. 28, 1979, Dale was united in marriage to Joyce Goracke and to this union, three children were born, Katie, Patrick and Joseph.

Dale participated in horse shows and bowling, winning several trophies. &nbsp; He also enjoyed coon hunting.

He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant brother &amp; sister and his brother Dean.

Survivors include his wife Joyce of the home; his daughters Doris Wiley of Park City, KS, Darlene Walker and husband John of Stockton, KS, Dorothy Bretton and Al Plante of Plainville, KS, Dixie Dibble and husband Bill of Woodston, KS, Katie Shellito and husband Roy of Logan; sons Patrick Bretton of Glade, KS and Joseph Bretton of Beaver City, NE; his brother Darrell and wife Elaine of Kensington, KS; 16 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, Sept. 21 at 10:30 a.m. in the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel with Pastor Jay Brandon officiating. The service will be streamed live on the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel Facebook page. &nbsp;Burial will follow in the Plainview Cemetery, Rural Phillips County.
